Blonde wrestler says being beautiful makes her miserable

Aspiring professional wrestler Dana Adiva claims she is miserable because she is too attractive.

The 21-year-old, who stars in the new MTV documentary True Lives, says she was forced to drop out of school because she was bullied by her classmates for being pretty.

“I would get hate mail,” she says.

“It got so bad, to the point where I stopped going to school.”

She also claims it’s difficult to get and keep a boyfriend because of the endless attention she gets.

“I get anything I want and I get treated like a princess.

“I don’t have to be smart, because I have my looks.”

Dana has in the past tried to hide her good looks, saying she would wear glasses unnecessarily and change the colour of her hair.

She has since decided to embrace her beauty and is now even contemplating breast enhancement surgery.

Dana isn’t the only woman cursed by her good looks. Recently London woman Laura Fernee, who has a science PhD, claimed she has remained unemployed because her good looks caused “massive problems” in the workplace.

How Britney Spears got her hot new body

How Britney Spears got her hot new body

Britney Spears’ trainer has spilled her weight loss secrets, revealing exactly how the star trimmed down recently.

The singer, who is about to launch a series of Las Vegas shows, has toned up and is stepping out looking fit and healthy.

Her killer new body and healthy outlook is all thanks to her personal trainer Tony Martinez, who says his workouts are all about having fun.

“I like to have fun and light humour and have you laughing the whole time. We will get your work done but I want you to have fun,” he tells E! Magazine.

“I like to incorporate sports like baseball or basketball into my workouts.”

Tony, who has a list of celebrity clients including Janet Jackson, Pink and The Jonas Brothers, works with Britney three or four times a week.

“She is a tremendous athlete. She likes to be very strong and aggressive in her workouts,” he says.

“I kept telling her to stop making it look too easy. It was like a competition with us!”

And when it comes to diet, Britney is allowed to eat five small meals per day, with her favorite being chicken salad with balsamic dressing.

Britney also credits yoga and the Nutrisystem – a weight loss program based on the glycaemic index that provides portion-controlled meals in microwave-ready pouches – for her trim figure.

And while Britney admits it’s hard to stay on track, listing spaghetti, brownies and chocolate chip cookies as some of her indulgences, she is determined to stay in top condition. “I’m doing 90 minutes of yoga twice a week, in addition to a lot of cardio – hour-long sessions three times a week, with my trainer Tony Martinez,” she recently told Shape magazine.

“The [Vegas] performances won’t be easy – they’ll be a massive party from start to finish. And to pull this off, I have to be in top condition and running at full speed.”

Tony’s workout for Britney combines different exercises, including:

  • Basketball jump shot against the wall 20 times

  • Backwards interval walking on a treadmill at 3.2km per hour for 1 minute, then walk forward for 1 minute.

  • Balancing on 1 leg, doing medicine ball slams with 1 arm

  • Bicycle on the floor mat 20 times for abs.

Married couples who meet online more likely to stay together

Married couples who meet online more likely to stay together

Married couples who met online are happier and more likely to stay together than those who found love in more traditional ways, a study has revealed.

Based on more than 19,000 people who married between 2005 and 2012, the US study by researchers in the Proceedings of the National Acedemy of Sciences found that the percentage of couples who broke up during that time was much lower among those who began their relationships through online dating.

Close to six per cent of couples who had met online had ended their relationships, compared to 7.67 per cent of couples who met offline.

Those who were still married during the survey were asked to report their relationship satisfaction levels, and those who found love online came out on top again.

Online couples recorded an averaged satisfaction score of 5.64 out of ten, while the others were slightly less satisfied averaging 5.48.

The study took place over a period in which online dating ballooned into a billion dollar industry, and the study claims the internet “may be altering the dynamics and outcome of marriage itself”.

One third of US marriages begin with online dating, the study found, while online dating takes credit for one in ten Australian marriages according to the latest data from leading dating website RSVP.

“We found evidence for a dramatic shift since the advent of the Internet in how people are meeting their spouse,” the study said.

Of those surveyed, people who reported meeting online were mostly aged 30-49 and in higher income brackets to those who had met offline.

Among those who met offline the most popular place to meet was through work, accounting for 22 per cent of relationships, while 19 per cent met through friends, 11 per cent met at school and nine per cent at a bar or club.

Parents have given up on table manners

Parents have given up on table manners

Australian parents have abandoned table manners, allowing their kids to eat however they want as long as they finish their food.

A new survey found 57 per cent of parents have given up trying to enforce good table etiquette letting children play video games, watch TV in their rooms, burp and talk with their mouths full while eating dinner.

Playing with food, making a mess, arguing with siblings and eating in their underwear was also acceptable as long as kids ate without complaint, according to the survey of 1000 parents conducted by Meat & Livestock Australia.

The study showed most families eat dinner together at the table four times a week, 45 per cent of kids had eaten at least one meal on the couch, often while watching television, in the past week.

Some 35 per cent had dined out at a restaurant on a friend’s house in the past seven days, while 8 per cent had eaten in their bedroom, 8 per cent outside and 7 per cent on the floor.

But while parents might find it easier to let table manners slide, etiquette expert Anna Musson, who runs The Good Manners Company, says neglecting them sets kids up for failure.

“Table manners came about as a way of segregating the classes,” Ms Musson told aww.com.au. “A person’s social standing was based on their knowledge of table manners and as much as we like to think that we’ve moved on, we still judge a person by their table manners.

“Parents giving up on manners and placing value on things like eating all their food, finishing their homework, they’re holding their children back from future success.”

Anna Musson’s important table manners for children

Children aged 2-4 should:

  • Sit at a table, even if it’s a little table, for every meal;

  • Learn to say “excuse me” when they burp;

  • Chew with their mouth closed.

Children aged four and up should:

  • Sit at the family table (use a booster seat if necessary);

  • Keep elbows off the table;

  • Not speak with their mouths full;

  • Never use phones or video games at the table;

  • Keep the TV off while eating;

  • Participate in family conversation.

Your say: Do you think table manners are important? Are kids these days sloppier than older generations at the dinner table?

Prince Philip ill on the eve of his 92nd birthday

Prince Philip ill on the eve of his 92nd birthday

Prince Philip at the Olympics earlier this month.

Prince Philip has fallen ill again, cancelling an important engagement on the eve of a service to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who turns 92 next week, pulled out of a gala reception at St James’s Palace at the last minute last night, citing illness.

Philip was already en route to the Royal National Institute of Blind People event when he felt sick and decided he couldn’t attend.

A palace spokesperson had no details about the Duke’s illness but confirmed he returned to Buckingham Palace and spent the night there and not in hospital.

Philip is still expected to attend a service marking the anniversary of the Queen’s coronation at Westminster Abbey tonight.

More than 2000 guests will attend the service, including all the senior members of the royal family.

The Duke has been ill with increasing regularity in the past few years.

He took ill during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations last year, spending five nights in hospital with a bladder infection.

The same infection flared up again in August, resulting in another hospitalisation.

The previous Christmas he spent four nights in hospital after heart surgery to clear a blocked coronary artery.

His recent poor health has led to calls for the Duke to slow down. He is currently one of the hardest-working members of the royal family, undertaking 350 engagements a year.

What to eat to beat coughs, hayfever, hangovers and headaches

Suffering from one of the above? Fill your plate with these to fight back.
Eat to beat coughs, hayfever, hangovers and headaches

Hop online and tap in the words “weight loss diet” and, within seconds, you’ll have thousands of food plans to choose from. Yet food can do so much more than just fill you up and trim you down, says Dr Gio Miletto, co-author of The Food Hospital.

“By choosing our foods carefully, we can have a lot more control than we ever have over how well we age, how we resist illnesses and the number of years we are able to live an active life,” says Dr Miletto.

Colds and Coughs

Winter is the prime time for colds and coughs, but no research has definitively explained exactly why this is.

More than 90 per cent are caused by viruses – there are over 200 that can cause colds – and won’t respond to antibiotics. There are different types of coughs – dry and chesty. Inflammation causes dry coughs and there is phlegm with chesty coughs.

There are several things you can do to help yourself when you’re suffering, some that may reduce the likelihood of you succumbing to any colds and coughs that are doing the rounds in the first place.

Vitamin C

Many people take vitamin C supplements to prevent colds and coughs, but it’s controversial and has been for years. There’s not a lot of solid scientific evidence supporting it. In fact, it’s rather the opposite – studies involving 11,300 people found that taking vitamin C tablets failed to reduce the incidence of colds.

It’s better to get vitamin C from food. Then you get a range of anti-oxidants, not just vitamin C, and vitamins from foods are likely to be easier for the body to access (they are more “bio-available”).

Garlic

Garlic is interesting because a study of 146 people showed that those who ate garlic every day for three months caught fewer colds. If they caught a cold, garlic didn’t reduce the effects, but they weren’t as likely to catch colds in the first place. Garlic has antimicrobial and antiviral properties, so that might be why it works.

Zinc

Several studies indicate that zinc is a factor in both preventing and alleviating colds, but there can be side effects if you take zinc supplements long term. It’s far better to make sure you are eating lots of zinc-containing foods as winter approaches.

Soup

Soup is a good choice when you’ve got a cold. Nutrients from meat, vegetables and pulses are retained in the liquid, and it’s easy to make a decent soup at home.

Hay Fever

Hay fever is an allergic reaction. Your immune system is reacting to the presence of a substance your body has come into contact with and is reacting as though the substance was harmful (even though it isn’t).

Cells in the lining of your nose, eyes and mouth release histamine, which sets off all the symptoms – and your symptoms are the result of your body trying to fight these substances.

Each time you come into contact with them, your body reacts even more, in a process called sensitisation: it has become sensitised to their presence.

Plants are a common trigger, particularly pollen from grass and trees, dust mites are another and so is pet “residue” (saliva and skin). Spores from fungi and mould can also be problematic, but pollen is the big one.

Honey

Some people claim that eating locally produced honey relieves the symptoms of hay fever. There doesn’t seem to be any strong scientific evidence, but there’s anecdotal evidence of positive effects.

Kiwi fruit

Because kiwi fruit is packed with vitamin C and helps to promote your immune system, reducing the impact of hay fever. They also contains bioflavanoids, which are a natural anti-histamine.

Pineapple

Pineapples are rich in bromelain, an enzyme with strong anti-inflammatory affects.

Deterioration of eyesight

The most common cause of deteriorating eyesight is Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD); cataracts are another. Having lots of good HDL cholesterol reduces your risk of cataracts, while keeping your Body Mass Index (BMI) in a healthy range can help reduce the risk of developing AMD and cataracts.

Cataracts are associated with some of the same risk factors as AMD, in particular, a high intake of saturated fat. Cloudy patches of cataracts can develop on the transparent lens in front of the eye. Light can’t pass through them and, as the cataracts grow, less light gets to the back of the eye. The cloudier the lens, the worse the effect on your sight.

Monosaturated fats

Be sure to get lots of monounsaturated fats, especially Omega-3. These can be found in olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, safflower oil, sesame oil, avocados, peanut butter, and many nuts and seeds. Fish is also a great source of omega-3. If you don’t like the taste of fish, try taking fish oil supplements.

Polyunsaturated fat

Polyunsaturated can help to protect you from AMD, which can be found in walnuts, canola oil, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, chia seeds, unsalted peanuts, peanut butter, avocado oil, olive oil, seaweed, sardines, soybeans, tuna, wild salmon, whole grain wheat.

Hangovers

Most people know the symptoms of a hangover – feeling sick, dizzy and headachy, maybe being over-sensitive to light or loud noises, finding it hard to concentrate and even stay upright. And most people know what causes it: too much alcohol.

Alcohol addiction can cause sweating, anxiety, tremors and palpitations, and other side efects of withdrawal.

Water

The best way of dealing with a hangover is to try and drink lots of (non-alcoholic!) fluid before bed.

Gatorade or Powerade

Try a sports drink to rehydrate you. Sports drinks contain lots of electrolytes, which help to rehydrate you faster.

Healthy breakfast

You’ve heard of hair of the dog, and greasy breakfasts being the cure, but instead of something unhealthy, you should be eating something healthy. You need to replace your vitamins. Try eggs on toast, or fruit with yoghurt. Or drag yourself out for a big breakfast at your local cafe.

Headache

There are many kinds of headache. Tension headaches feel like a tight band across the front of your head. Sinus headaches are felt around the eye sockets. Cluster headaches are rarer, though more common in men. These cause a pain behind the eyes, often only one.

Dehydration can be a factor, as can lack of physical activity, smoking, drinking lots of coffee or alcohol and skipping meals. One cause may be sensitivity to artificial ingredients in food or drink, such as the sweetener aspartame.

Water

Headaches are often caused by the meninges in your brain (small blood vessels) constricting or swelling because of dehydration. Replenish them with plenty of water.

Salads

Steer towards meals with a high water content, like lettuce, cucumber, or capsicum. You can eat all of these in one go by adding them to a salad.

Bananas

Bananas are high in magnesium, which can relax the constricting blood vessels, and potassium, which can help with nausea, headaches, and muscle fatigue.

Spicy food

Whether it’s a curry, or a bit of chilli on your meal, eating spicy things can help with your headache. Spicy foods can help with congestion, which will unblock sinuses and reduce pressure, which might be what is causing your headache.

Keep a trigger diary to see if any foods affect you over a couple of weeks. If anything looks likely to be a culprit, cut it out, then reintroduce it later.

Penelope Cruz

Penelope Cruz has beat actresses half her age to win a role in the next James Bond movie, making her 007’s oldest love interest.

Penelope will be 40 when production starts on the as-yet unnamed sequel to 2012 blockbuster Skyfall.

This makes her the oldest Bond girl in all 24 films, beating previous record holder Honor Blackman, who was 39 when she played Pussy Galore in 1964 classic Goldfinger.

Penelope — who is pregnant with her second child with husband Javier Bardem — will reportedly play a “brainy and sexy” character in the movie, which is likely to be directed by Skyfall’s Sam Mendes.

“The producers have tried to get Penelope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments,” a source to the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper.

“The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now.”

Daniel Craig will play James Bond in the film, his penultimate appearance as Britain’s most famous spy.

Penelope and Javier have one son, two-year-old Leo, and another baby due this month.
