Michelle Bridges’s shock stripper secret

Michelle's shock stripper secret

Now we can add a stripper to the list of chiselled men in Michelle Bridges’ life.

Meet Lucas “Wyld”, Sydney stripper and son of Bill Moore, The Biggest Loser trainer’s soon-to-be-ex-husband.

By day, softly spoken Lucas is one of the city’s top tattooists. By night he’s the raunchy headline act for Wildboys Afloat, “Sydney’s number one girls’ night out”.

The former customs officer – who was a regular face on hit reality show Border Security – tells Woman’s Day he’s been stripping since 2006. He was talent-spotted for his unique tattoos and rock-hard bod and hasn’t had to frisk dodgy tourists since.

Lucas, who is also a hit on the celebrity hens’ night circuit, remains tight-lipped about his relationship with former stepmum Michelle, whose nine-year marriage to his dad Bill ended earlier this year.

Nicole lashes out at Joel: How could you!

Nicole lashes out at Joel: How could you!

The coach faces trouble at home with wife Nicole who’s “furious” over his drug bust.

Silver Logie winner Joel Madden’s had Aussie fans on his side after his drug arrest last week, but one person isn’t so supportive – his wife Nicole Richie. After her well-documented past struggles with drugs, 31-year-old Nicole’s reinvented herself as a fashionista, not to mention doting mother to Harlow, five, and Sparrow, three. But she now fears Joel’s drug shame could damage her image.

“Nicole hates that Joel’s stupidity will reflect poorly on her,” says a source. “She left her party girl days behind years ago and she loathes being associated with scandal.” Nicole is also “furious” with Joel because he assured her his rock star partying ways were behind him.

“It’s not the getting caught and public embarrassment that infuriates Nicole as much as the fact that Joel promised Nicole a long time ago that he had given up his pot habit for good,” our source reveals. “She won’t tolerate any drugs around her kids, not in the house and not people – especially their father! – being high.

“Nicole is thinking back now that Joel could have been stoned when Harlow and Sparrow were in his care, and if something would have happened to them, an accident for instance, she never would have forgiven Joel.”

Katie Holmes tells all: 12 month contract over!

Katie Holmes tells all: 12 month contract over!

Katie plans to spill the secrets the world’s been waiting for, before others do…

Tom Cruise’s closely guarded secrets are set to be laid bare by the woman who knows him best – his ex-wife, Katie Holmes. Tom’s obsession with Scientology, his three marriages and subsequent divorces, and even his sexuality have all been the subject of intense speculation for as long as he has been a superstar.

Now Woman’s Day can reveal Katie is preparing to blow the lid off all this and more in a $10 million book deal. A publishing insider from the company leading the bidding on her biography tells us the sure-fire bestseller has the working title Katie Holmes: Living A Lie – but can only speculate about what exactly will be revealed.

“The two biggest stories out there in Hollywood right now are Jennifer Aniston telling the story of how Brad Pitt left home for Angelina, and Katie Holmes giving us the warts-and-all truth of what Tom Cruise is really like in private, in the bedroom, and when he is with his Scientology friends at these secret get-togethers,” says James Alexander, who has brokered several multi-million dollar deals for tell-all books.

“Everyone wants to know if their relationship was a marriage of convenience, whether she was asked to sign a contract like the one Nicole Kidman allegedly signed, whether Tom is Suri’s real father, her experiences regarding Tom’s sexuality and why she suddenly snapped and fled with Suri.” With the first anniversary of their 2012 split looming, the time is almost ripe for Katie, 34, to finally open up about the most spectacular marriage fallout in recent Hollywood history. “The moment the 12-month confidentiality clause from their divorce proceedings is up, Katie can sign the deal and make it official and she’ll be $10 million richer,” says James.

Baby’s $200,000 first birthday party!

Baby's $200,000 first birthday party!

Crystal chandeliers, diamonds, Arabian Knights, lolly shops – this is like no other kids’ party you’ve seen.

Most mums want their child’s first birthday to be a special event. A few presents, some music and games, perhaps a couple of glasses of wine for the grown-ups. But Mia Akiki isn’t most mums. Mia was determined to make daughter Belladonna Monroe’s one-year milestone more than memorable – she wanted it to be unforgettable.

Forget two hours of peek-a-boo and amusingly shaped sandwiches – Mia wanted a party fit for royalty. “I’ve been planning this birthday party since I found out I was pregnant,” says Mia, who first came to Woman’s Day’s attention when she staged her own “fairytale” in 2011 – an over-the-top wedding to which she arrived in a pumpkin coach, wearing a dress made from 150 metres of silk and a 4kg crown. “We are raising our little Belladonna to be a princess, from her beautiful designer nursery to her first birthday party.”

And what says “princess” more than a lavish 10kg designer gown of champagne silk and lace and an intricate pearl-and-silk headpiece? “Her outfit weighs more than her – I can barely lift her!” Mia laughs, handing Bella to her dad, 28-year-old accountant Simon.

“Bella’s a mini-me,” says Mia, 27. “So, I’ve dressed her like a mini version of me on my wedding day.” Fresh from a quiet Catholic christening in the morning, the 110 guests are taken by coach to the lavish party at The Bellevue reception centre, Bankstown, in Sydney’s south-west. A wide-eyed Bella also arrives by coach – but hers is a fairytale pumpkin covered in exotic flowers and lifted high by dashing Arabian Knights. Her arrival is also accompanied by heady Middle Eastern music.

Kate Ceberano to curate Adelaide Cabaret Festival

Kate Ceberano

She’s never been averse to adding strings to her bow, so to discover that national treasure and much-loved songbird, Kate Ceberano is the curator of this year’s Adelaide Cabaret Festival should come as no great surprise.

What does surprise, however, having just spent a weekend up to my eyeballs in cabaret in the city of churches, is the calibre of artists she has assembled — and the enthusiasm with which Adelaid-eans receive them.

“I would take a bullet for any one of these artists,” Kate tells The Weekly before the Good Lady Wife (GLW) and I sit down for our first show. “We’ve become like family, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Much has been made of the headline acts bookending this festival: the pint-sized powerhouse that is Kristen Chenoweth (from Broadway’s Wicked and TV’s Glee) and the human octave that is Idina Menzel (from Broadway’s Wicked and TV’s Glee … is there a motif here?). But it’s really the acts that buttress these two performers and fill out the comprehensive two-week program who are deserving of special mention. Or, as this year’s festival tagline puts it: “what lies beneath”.

Scratch beneath the surface of this year’s festival and you discover a songbook’s worth of torch songs, a vaguely naughty streak and a wealth of both international and home-grown talent. In essence, a little bit of something for everyone.

Easily the highlight of my festival weekend was the magnificent Ms Catherine Alcorn. She’s a Sydney lass and relative newcomer to the world of cabaret, but her bravura performance in Go Your Own Way — a nifty piece of musical theatre about the life of Christine McVie (songwriter, keyboardist and lesser known female member of Fleetwood Mac) — had the audience on its feet and screaming for more.

Kate Ceberano

The tunes are catchy, the book is witty and Alcorn, with one deft swing of the cabaret stick, used her festival performance to announce herself as a young talent whose star is very much on the ascent.

All the way from New York, the wilfully wicked Joey Arias delighted festival goers with his own, unique take on the cabaret genre. Described by Time Out New York as a “demi-god of the demi-monde”, Joey has a sublime voice and a vaguely sinister on-stage presence. Supported by jazz piano virtuoso Charly Zastrau — whose arrangements on songs as diverse as Summertime and Madonna’s Holiday have to be heard to be believed — Arias terrified and delighted in equal measure as he strutted about the stage in stripper heels.

On the subject of vertiginous heels, Aussie cabaret siren, Meow Meow continues her international tour de force with a fiery show at this year’s festival.

It’s camp, it’s slapstick, it’s vaudevillean — all of which make it thoroughly entertaining to watch. But you still leave wondering if her soaring vocals have somehow gotten lost in the theatre of it all.

Notable too was the performance by the greater population of Adelaide — who appear to turn out in force for the festival — ready to sample anything. They clearly love a festival down Adelaide way, which creates for a great, festive atmosphere right throughout the city.

Determined to counter-balance the cabaret with a hearty meal, the GLW and I scooted up into the Adelaide Hills for a flying visit and a lazy, fireside lunch in historic Hahndorf (which may or may not have been rounded off with a cheeky bag of Fruchocs — a South Australian chocolate delicacy, or so I am told). Wending through the vineyards and back down Norton Summit towards the city in the late afternoon sunshine was just beautiful.

Perhaps the most striking impression we left with after a weekend at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival was just how many extremely accomplished musicians we have in this country.

If the various stages of the festival were commanded by the larger-than-life performers who strutted upon them, the real heroes were the pianists, guitar players, drummers and bass players — nimble, melodic and deeply talented to a person.

Did I mention the Fruchocs?

The Adelaide Cabaret Festival runs until June 23. For info see: www.adelaidecabaret.com

Nigella Lawson flees home as horrifying choking pics emerge

A distressed Nigella Lawson has reportedly fled her marital home with suitcase in hand hours after pictures of the chef apparently being grabbed by the throat by her husband surfaced in a UK tabloid.
Nigella Lawson crying

A distressed Nigella Lawson has reportedly fled her marital home with suitcase in hand hours after pictures of the chef apparently being grabbed by the throat by her husband surfaced in a UK tabloid.

The 53-year-old mother of two was spotted looking very anxious waiting for a taxi with her teenage son, the Daily Mail reports.

She left the London home after images of her billionaire husband Charles Saatchi apparently choking her at a restaurant were published in Britain’s Sunday People.

The incident is believed not to be an isolated attack, as the pair have been photographed arguing before, with neighbours of the couple telling the magazine of their “volatile” relationship.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson has said Ms Lawson had not lodged a complaint but declined to confirm whether someone else had done so.

Police are investigating the incident which was described in the magazine as “utterly shocking”.

“I have no doubt she was scared. It was horrific, really. She was very tearful and was constantly dabbing her eyes. Nigella was very, very upset,” an onlooker told Sunday People.

“She had a real look of fear on her face. And yet she kissed him. She appeared to be a woman who loves him but was clearly unable to stop him being abusive, frightening and disrespectful to her.”

Neighbours of the couple have reportedly described previous public arguments between the couple.

“They’re both characters and if they did this I’m sure they made up straight away as I’ve seen them together looking happy recently,” a neighbour said.

The incident was allegedly witnessed by bystanders — not one of whom intervened.

The celebrity chef was said to be quivering as her 70-year-old husband first used his left, then both hands as he grasped at her neck four times.

Witnesses say she appeared calm and tried to calm her husband down, at one point making the bizarre move to lean over and kiss her husband on the cheek.

One witness added that Saatchi “looked guilty”.

“It was clear he knew he’d done something wrong. He was menacing, there’s no question. She had been abused and humiliated in public.”

This horrific incident is the latest in a string of tragedies to befall the successful TV chef.

The self-trained cook enjoyed a happy childhood raised by her father Nigel, a senior cabinet minister in Margaret Thatcher’s government, and her mother Vanessa, a socialite and heiress to a successful restaurant chain.

But her mother died of liver cancer in her 40s, and Nigella also lost her sister, Thomasina, to breast cancer in her 30s.

Cancer also claimed the life of her first husband, journalist John Diamond, who died of throat cancer in 2001. The couple had two sons together now 17 and 19.

Nigella remarried in 2003 after finding love with Charles Saatchi, co-founder of global advertising firm Saatchi & Saatchi. The media-shy billionaire has been married three times and divorced twice.

The incident has prompted a wide spread discussion about domestic violence.

An Australian radio presenter triggered outrage with a blog post calling on Australian women to boycott the British TV chef until she “makes a stand on domestic violence”.

“If you want us to buy your books and watch your shows on how to run our kitchens, then we need you to make a stand on domestic violence,” she wrote.

After copping “a torrent of abuse”, the 3AW presented who calls herself “The Queen of Melbourne Radio” issued a statement clarifying her comments.

“First and foremost, my wish is for Nigella Lawson is that she is safe and well, and as far away from her beastly husband as possible,” she said, adding she was “mortified that anyone would think I was bullying or victimising Nigella Lawson, a woman I admire enormously.”

Banning the biff: NRL’s hallelujah moment

Banning the biff: NRL's hallelujah moment

Yesterday there was a bit of a hallelujah moment in sport.

The NRL introduced a zero-tolerance policy towards on-field violence, meaning anyone caught swinging a punch on field will be automatically sin-binned and potentially face the judiciary.

It comes after the now infamous attack Blues’ skipper Paul Gallen made against Maroons’ forward Nate Myles.

For those of you who have avoided the endless repeats of the fight, the footage is gruelling to watch. Myles’ heads flops dangerously from side to side as he is punched in the chin, twice, in an unprovoked attack.

Rather than be punished for biffing a fellow player, Gallen was allowed to play on, and only copped a week’s suspension from the sport.

So as a parent, how do you explain this to your kids?

One Dad I spoke to watched the game with his son and daughter — aged 6 and 8.

He said his parents had encouraged a love of League in him, and he wanted to pass that on to his children. But when the screen showed a close up of that punch in its unedited glory, it was game over. The TV went off.

His kids asked him why the punch happened, was the other man ok, questions he struggled to answer.

He’s thrilled about the changes to the rules — but pointed out that it’s a shame that a specific policy needs to be made for an action that’s not ok anywhere else in society.

It’s a great move by the NRL, but the League community isn’t so sure.

Comments online ranged from ‘This is what happens when your CEO does not understand the game…’ to all out condemnation of the rule change: ‘Shame, I watch the game for the big hits and aggression, now there is none … guess I will have to find another sport.’

Seriously, Australia?

On one hand we are telling our kids not to bully other children in the playground, but in the same breath we are cheering a dirty fight in a League game.

How utterly contradictory.

League is rough enough, surely? No one is putting a ban on tackles, or scrums. That’s part of the spectacle, part of the game, and as long as it’s within the rules, that’s fine.

Sport is not above the law.

We repeatedly tell our children not to hit one another. Not to scratch, bite, or pull hair.

Our sportspeople need to do the same. Time to grow up boys, and be real men.

Miley’s parents to divorce

Miley’s parents to divorce

Billy Ray Cyrus and his wife Tish have announced they are getting divorced.

Billy Ray filed for divorce in 2010 but changed his mind, and the pair have been working on their marriage ever since. But now it’s Tish who’s had a change of heart.

“This is a personal matter and we are working to find a resolution that is in the best interest of our family,” the couple told People.

“We ask that you respect our privacy at this time.”

Tish is requesting primary physical and legal custody of their daughter Noah, 13, with visitation for Billy Ray, court documents reveal. She is also seeking spousal support and wants her estranged husband to pay her legal fees.

Billy Ray recently hinted that the pair’s relationship was once again on the rocks.

“We’ve both been very busy in pursuit of different things we have going on. We’re taking it one day at a time,” he told People in May.

The pair have been married 19 years and have five children.
