Prince Charles has delighted Doctor Who fans by impersonating a Dalek during a visit to the BBC’s studios in Cardiff, Wales, yesterday.

Charles had onlookers — and himself — in stitches of laughter as he used a voice modulating microphone to utter the villains’ famous “exterminate” catchphrase.

“Prince Charles’s attempt at being a Dalek was great,” the show’s writer Stephen Moffat said.

“I haven’t thought about how I could weave a meeting between the Doctor and the royal family. But there would be a part in the show for him if he wanted it.”

Charles, 63, has been a fan of the popular sci-fi series since he was 15 and was visibly delighted during his visit to the set.

He met the current Doctor Matt Smith and his co-star Jenna-Louise Coleman and posed with model Daleks.

He also got to play with a sonic screwdriver and step inside the famous Tardis.

“The Prince was lovely and a charming bloke,” Smith said. “He took quite an interest in the Tardis’ controls and asked a lot of questions about it.

“He told me and Jenna that he’d been a big fan of the show since he was 15 — which we didn’t know.

“The other thing which stood out for me is he had fantastic shoes. He’s got the makings of a future Doctor!”

The 79-year-old monarch will step down on July 21, Belgium’s national day, to make way for his eldest son Prince Philippe, 53.

“It’s with emotion that I address every one of you today,” Albert said in the broadcast.

“I’m in my 80th year, an age never before reached by my predecessors. My age and health no longer permit me to exercise my functions as I would wish to.”

The King said he was sure his son Philippe would make an excellent sovereign.

“Prince Philippe is well prepared to succeed me, he and Princess Mathilde have my every confidence,” he said. “It’s with serenity and confidence that I share this decision.”

The royal baby already has a Wikipedia page

The royal baby already has a Wikipedia page

The royal baby has already made history, becoming the first person to have a Wikipedia page before their birth.

A page was created earlier this week dedicated to the “Child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge”, which it says is due on July 13.

The page on the first child of Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, also mentions the controversial Australian Women’s Weekly shoot that captured former prime minister Julia Gillard knitting a toy kangaroo for the baby.

Excitement is certainly building outside St Mary’s Hospital, where Kate will give birth. Parking has now been suspended outside the hospital for all of July, while the world’s media has begun setting up camp, hoping to capture Catherine’s arrival and the first pictures of the new royal.

In an unexpected move, royal aides have confirmed they will tell the world when Kate goes into labour. Once the child is born, a traditional notice announcing the birth will be posted on an easel outside Buckingham Palace.

Media descends on London hospital as world begins the wait for Kate

Hospital transformed into tourism hot spot in wait for Kate

The newly erected media pen outside London's St Mary's Hospital.

Photographers and royal fans from around the world have taken up their places outside London’s St Mary’s Hospital to begin the long wait for Kate to appear.

Police yesterday erected a huge press pen outside the Lindo wing of the hospital where Diana gave birth to William in 1982.

Photographers and video cameramen from around the world were quick to claim their spots in the enclosure, chaining stepladders to the crowd control fencing to ensure they had the best vantage points to capture the Duchess of Cambridge arriving at hospital, and the first glimpse of the new baby after the birth.

Photographers have chained ladders to the fencing to ensure they have a good view of the new baby.

Traditionally, royal parents pose for photos with their bundle of joy on the hospital’s steps after mother and baby are discharged.

Although Kate’s reported due date is still 10 days away, some eager photographers aren’t taking any chances, and are already staking out the hospital.

Diehard royal fans have also started their vigil, lining up to have the best spot when the baby arrives.

Parking outside the hospital has been banned for the month of July so Kate can get in quickly.

Kate is due to give birth on July 13. William is said to be determined to be present at the birth and a helicopter is on standby to rush him from his RAF base in Anglesey, Wales, to London when his wife goes into labour.

Kate’s mother Carole Middleton and sister Pippa will also be present at the hospital so they can step in to support Kate in the delivery room if William doesn’t make it.

Once the baby is born, William will telephone the Queen to let her know the weight and sex. He will then be free to call his father Prince Charles and Kate’s family.

The attending doctors will then sign an official document announcing the birth, which will be rushed to Buckingham Palace under police escort where it will be displayed on an easel by the front gates.

If mother and baby are healthy, they will emerge on the hospital’s steps for their first photo call 24 to 48 hours later before being whisked away to Kate’s parents Berkshire home where they will spend the first six weeks.

Why the royal baby will one day rule

Why the royal baby will one day rule

Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, aren’t the only ones preparing for arrival of the royal baby – with the rest of the world also gearing up for the blessed event!

But while the media has already descended outside the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in London, there are also more formal preparations that need to be finalised regarding the royal rules of succession.

All 16 Commonwealth nations that have the Queen as head of state have already or will soon ensure that their respective constitutions confirm Prince William and Catherine’s first child as the third in line to the throne, irrespective of gender.

Under the decree made in 2011, the royal couple’s baby, which is expected any day now, will ascend before any males other than his or her grandfather and father – and that includes Prince Harry!

Under previous laws, which had been in place for 300 years, the crown passed to the oldest male heir.

What the means now is that if the Wills and Kate have a baby girl, she’ll one day be queen – even if they subsequently have a son.

Meanwhile, the Queen is also making sure that her great grandchild will be third in line to the throne.

When Catherine was three months pregnant, The Queen issued a Letters Patent declaring “all the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title and attribute of royal highness with the titular dignity of prince or princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honour”.

The royal line of succession is now as follows:

Current Monarch: Queen Elizabeth II (born 1926)

  1. Prince Charles

  2. Prince William

  3. Prince or Princess “Royal Baby”

  4. Prince Harry

  5. Prince Andrew

  6. Princess Beatrice

  7. Princess Eugenie

  8. Prince Edward

  9. Viscount Severn

  10. Lady Louise

  11. Princess Anne

All you need to know about the royal baby

All you need to know about the royal baby

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are about to welcome their first child, so here are some little-known facts about the third in line to the British throne.

Born to rule

Prince William and Duchess Catherine’s baby will follow William as king or queen of the United Kingdom. In 2011, the rules restricting the rights of succession to male heirs were changed.

All in the family

The baby will be the Queen’s third great-grandchild – and one in direct succession to the throne. The last time this happened was almost 120 years ago with Queen Victoria and her great-grandchild George VI – in 1895!

Who will find out first?

The Queen will be the first to be told whether The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have welcomed a baby Prince or Princess. William will make the first phone call to his grandmother on an encrypted phone once Catherine has given birth. Meanwhile, the couple’s private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton will phone UK Prime Minister David Cameron to deliver the happy news.

A life of duty

Catherine and William’s baby will shoulder a great deal of responsibility, one day becoming the head of the UK armed forces and the supreme governor of the Church of England. They’ll also take over as head of the Commonwealth and head of state in a number of countries – currently 54 and 16 nations respectively.

A traditional name

There are some traditions Catherine and William will keep to when picking a name for the future king or queen, including not usually being named after a living relative – so Elizabeth is probably out. The name John is avoided, as it’s thought to be unlucky. The baby will have the title of his or her Royal Highness.

Becoming king or queen

Just as 64-year-old Prince Charles is still waiting in the wings to become king, William and Catherine’s baby may not succeed to the throne until 2072 – when they’re 59 – if William lives to 90.

European heirs to the throne

William and Catherine’s baby will become the youngest on a long list of Europeans heirs to the throne including Swedish Crown Princess Victoria’s one-year-old, Princess Estelle, Princess Mary’s two-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine and five-year-old Princess Eléonore of Belgium.
