Wills and Kate take baby George to visit Middletons

Wills and Kate take baby George to visit Middletons

After a busy day of visits from adoring family members, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have taken their little prince George to Berkshire to stay with the Middletons.

It’s believed that Kate will stay with her mother and father for six weeks as she gets to grips with being a new mum. William will remain by her side until he returns to his RAF job following two weeks’ paternity leave.

Little Prince George was welcomed by a jubilant world yesterday, and his delighted granny the Queen, uncle Prince Harry, aunt Pippa and uncle James Middleton – who all visited Kensington Palace to meet their new family member.

And after spending their first day and night at home as a family, William and Kate left the palace by car, with Wills in the passenger seat and Kate in the back with their bundle of joy, smiling broadly and waving to cheering crowds.

While the palace would not confirm where the family was going, there has been heightened police security around the small village of Bucklebury and the Middletons’ mansion there.

Eyewitnesses also report seeing the couple’s black Land Rover pulling up at the family’s home.

Carole and Michael Middleton were the first to arrive at St. Mary’s hospital to visit their daughter after she gave birth, the excited new grandmother telling reporters the baby was “absolutely beautiful”.

When asked how it felt cuddling her grandson for the first time, a beaming Carole said, “Amazing, It’s all coming back. We are absolutely thrilled.”

Royal baby named George Alexander Louis of Cambridge

Royal baby named George Alexander Louis of Cambridge

The famously modern Wills and Kate have stuck with tradition by choosing a name for their new son with strong royal connotations.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son George Alexander Louis,” a statement from Kensington Palace said.

“The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.” George had been the bookmaker’s favourite since Catherine’s pregnancy was announced last year.

“George was a bit of a giveaway – it was bandied around so much and we expected it,” said Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine.

“And it is a nice tribute to the Queen’s father and grandfather.”

There have been six King Georges, including the Queen’s father, George VI. The new prince’s second name, Alexander, is thought to have been picked to honour the Queen, whose middle name is Alexandra.

The name Louis also has great meaning to William’s father, Prince Charles, whose uncle and mentor, Earl Louis Mountbatten, was assassinated by the IRA in 1979.

But some royal insiders claim that William and Catherine did not choose the names for any particular significance, insisting they “just liked the sound of them”.

Prince George of Cambridge: Kate and William announce royal baby name

Prince George of Cambridge: Kate and William announce royal baby name

Two days after the arrival of the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the final chapter in the waiting game for the royal baby is over.

Kensington Palace have announced Kate and William have chose to name their son George Alexander Louis.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son George Alexander Louis,” the palace said in a statement.

“The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.”

Up until the announcement which came at 6:30pm — 3:30 in the morning Australian time — the third-in-line to the throne was known as Baby Cambridge.

It is thought the Queen would have been informed of, and approved, the name when she was introduced to her third great-grandchild on a visit to Kensington Palace on Wednesday morning.

But a spokesperson from the palace has said the choice of name was the one the couple wanted.

The Queen has been honoured in their heir’s name — his middle name Alexander is a variation on hers, Alexandra.

George pays tribute to the Queen’s father, King George VI, and grandfather George V.

Prince Philip’s side of the family is recognised in the royal baby’s name.

Louis (pronounced Lew-ie) was the name of Prince Philip’s uncle Lord Mountbatten, who Prince Charles was very close to. It is also one of Prince William’s middle names.

While the baby will be known as Prince George, that doesn’t necessarily mean the monarchy will see another King George.

Like the Queen’s father, who was christened Albert but changed his title to George when he begun his reign, the heir may choose to be called by another name when he eventually rises to the throne.

Boy George, as the two-day-old Prince has already become affectionately nicknamed, was given three names rather than the traditional four.

His father Prince William was christened William Arthur Philip Louis.

George was the favourite among bookmakers, with one major betting agency set to pay out the equivalent of $250,000 to those who put money on the name.

Prince George is enjoying “private, quiet time” with his parents and grandparents at the Middleton’s family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, as the world continues to celebrate his arrival.

The ‘Baby Cambridge Effect’: buying frenzy for wrap

The 'Baby Cambridge Effect': buying frenzy for wrap

The blanket wrapped around HRH Prince George of Cambridge

Whenever the style-conscious Duchess of Cambridge steps out in a new dress, there’s a stampede from admiring shoppers and it sells out immediately.

Now, it seems, her newborn son is having the same effect. The cotton muslin wrap that the baby prince wore in his first public appearance leaving hospital has sparked a buying frenzy.

The white bird print swaddle, made by the trendy Australian-born company aden + anais, was at the centre of a surge in sales from fans both in shops and online.

But it doesn’t come cheap for British shoppers at $ 75 (£ 44.95) for a pack of four “jungle jam” wraps, including other prints of monkeys, elephants and giraffes.

“We are truly grateful and so delighted that the couple chose to debut the prince in aden + anais, it is such an honour!” aden + anais founder Raegan Moya-Jones told the UK’s The Telegraph newspaper. “We wish the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge many congratulations on the birth of their son.”

Australian mum Moya-Jones started up the company after spotting an enduring demand in the parenting market for good-quality wraps – despite so many other products becoming disposable, complicated and modern. The cloths can also double up as a pram cover, breastfeeding shawl, blanket or burping cloth.

Meanwhile, the so-called “Kate Effect” shows no sign of diminishing despite the spotlight shifting onto her son.

The blue polka-dot dress that the new mother wore after giving birth caused British designer Jenny Packham’s website to crash – even though it was a one-off, custom-made garment that won’t be reproduced for the mainstream market.

Many of the Duchess’s clothes are, however, from the high street and accessible to her fans. Another spike in sales is expected after her latest appearance in a lavender dress by maternity brand Séraphine.

Prince Charles thrilled to become a grandparent

Prince Charles thrilled to become a grandparent

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Prince Charles has spoken of his joy at becoming a grandparent, describing his first encounter with newborn Prince George as a “great moment”.

The Prince of Wales’ jubilation was evident on his face as he told well-wishers about the newest member of the British royal family at the opening of a railway station garden in Gloucestershire yesterday.

He told a nine-year-old boy that it was proving “fun to be a grandfather”. His wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, agrees the new arrival is particularly “wonderful for the grandfather”.

“He’s brilliant with children, so he’ll have a wonderful time,” she said.

The 64-year-old prince was presented with congratulatory cards at the event and was photographed with children who came to meet him.

Prince George Alexander Louis was born weighing a healthy 8lbs 6oz on Monday afternoon at St Mary’s Hospital in London.

His name is likely to also have delighted Prince Charles, who is known to be an ardent admirer of the former English King George III. He visited his grandson the day after his daughter-in-law Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth, declaring himself “thrilled and very excited” at the new arrival.

New dad Prince William is now in his wife’s home town of Bucklebury with Catherine and Prince George, spending time with her parents before his two weeks’ paternity leave ends.

He’s enormous! The Queen meets her great-grandson

He's enormous! The Queen meets her great-grandson

The Queen has paid a visit to Kensington Palace for her first cuddle with her great-grandson, the newborn Prince of Cambridge.

Her Majesty made short journey from Buckingham Palace, arriving in a dark green Bentley early in the afternoon, and was said to be “thrilled” to be meeting with the yet to be named first child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who is now two days old.

The monarch spent about half an hour at the palace in a private meeting with the newborn heir to the throne and his proud parents who spent the night at their cottage in Kensington Palace before departing for the Middleton’s family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire early in the afternoon.

The Queen’s visit follows drop ins from from Kate’s sister Pippa, who was waiting at the palace when the young royal family left St Mary’s hospital on Tuesday evening, and the heir’s uncle Harry, who popped in on Wednesday morning.

Before being introduced to her great-grandson, the Queen reportedly told guests at a reception at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday evening he was “an enormous child”, and said that “the first born is very special”.

Prince William also acknowledged his first son’s weight as he introduced him to crowds at the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s hospital in London before driving his family home.

“He’s a big boy, he’s quite heavy,” he said.

The Prince of Cambridge arrived at 8lb 6oz — the heaviest royal infant in 100 years.

Reports of the Queen’s visit put royal watchers on high alert for an announcement of the third-in-line to the throne’s name, as it was anticipated the young couple may want to run their decision by great-grandma in person before she heads to Balmoral for her annual summer getaway on Friday.

Prince Harry is yet to speak publicly about the arrival of his nephew, but is making an appearance at a photo exhibition tomorrow where attending media will be listening for cute comments from the first-time uncle.
