A crocodile and condoms for little Prince George

A crocodile and condoms for little Prince George

What do you give a baby who wants for nothing? A crocodile, apparently.

Governments, the rich and the famous have swamped the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with presents, in what seems to have become a competition of who can send the most elaborate gift.

The Northern Territory government has gifted the royal baby a crocodile, fittingly named after the Prince himself. Thankfully, it won’t be turning up on the Middleton family’s doorstep – George will remain at Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin City with its fellow reptiles, crocs Prince William and Catherine.

“We’ve decided to give a unique gift, a little baby crocodile, whose egg was hatched on December 3, the day William and Catherine announced they were pregnant,” said NT chief minister Adam Giles.

“We will encourage new Prince George to come to Darwin and view the royal gift.”

But perhaps even more bizarre than George the croc was a box of goodies from Kela, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland… which included, among other things, condoms.

The royal couple have also received cuff-links for George’s christening, a suit and tie, and a parking space in a shopping centre.

We assume the car space is for Will and Kate. We’re still not sure what to think of the condoms.

Michelle Williams’ model moment

Michelle Williams' model moment

We’ve seen her grow from TV’s girl next door to screen siren and now Michelle Williams has made the leap to smouldering fashion model in a new campaign for Louis Vuitton.

The 32-year-old actress has made her modeling debut and given a rare behind the scenes glimpse into the goings on behind the lense on a high fashion campaign.

In a behind the scenes video released by the designer, a smouldering Williams compares getting into character for her model moment to preparing for a film role.

“It’s like falling in love,” she says during the shoot.

“I fall in love with characters like falling in love in life.”

Pouting, laughing, and taking instructions from photographer Peter Lindbergh, the actress has taken to her first major role as a brand ambassador to the classic brand the same way she prepared to play Marilyn Monroe in the 2012 biopic.

“I don’t try and mastermind it, I hope to try and stay very present and open to what is moving me in the moment, and generally that tends to be something that’s challenging. If it’s not challenging, then why do it?” she said.

“I started working on Marilyn a year before we started filming.

“The more time you put into it, the more naturally it will come. And ultimately the easier it will make my job, the more free it will make my job, because my head won’t be thinking.

“So I like to take a lot of time to prepare.”

The actress, known for her launching role in TV series Dawsons Creek, Brokeback Mountain, and more recently as the sexy screen legend in My Week With Marilyn, is currently filming Suite Francaise, a romantic drama based on the novel by Irene Nemirovsky.

Fronting the Louis Vuitton autrumn/winter 2014 campaign, which promoted the French fashion house’s latest handbags, Williams worked with hairstylist Sam McKnight and make-up artist Stephane Maraise as well as famed Vogue photographer Lindbergh.

Kim Kardashian to reveal post-baby bod at Kylie’s 16th

Kim Kardashian to reveal post-baby bod at Kylie's sweet 16

The usually attention-hungry Kim Kardashian is yet to make a public appearance since giving birth, but it would seem that’s set to change next month when she attends her sister Kylie’s 16th birthday party.

The 32-year-old will finally show off her post-baby body, which she has been working hard on while staying at her mother Kris’s house with daughter North West.

But Kim says she does not want to steal all of the attention away from the birthday girl.

“Believe it or not, it’s not all about Kim,” a source told the New York Daily News.

“She really wants to go to Kylie’s party, and when it comes to the family, Kris wants everyone there. Kim is just working with Kris to figure out the best plan of action.”

The party is set for August 17 at LA’s AT&T centre, and 100 guests have already been invited.

It has also been reported that Kim is getting bids in excess of $2 million for the first photo shoot of her and baby Nori. And she’s in talks to make an appearance on Kris’s new talk show.

On July 17, Kim spoke out for the first time since giving birth in a post on her Celebuzz blog.

“These past couple of weeks have been filled with the most exciting experiences of my life,” she wrote. “I’m enjoying this time to fully embrace motherhood and spend time at home with my family. I’ve been reading all of your messages and want to thank you all for your sweet thoughts and best wishes.

“It truly means everything to me. I am so blessed to have the support of my family and fans in this beautiful moment.”

Prince Philip’s illness delays royal family portrait

Prince Philip's illness delays royal family portrait

Prince Philip is too ill to meet his great-grandson, six-day-old Prince George, and is unable to pose in the traditional royal family portrait until he recovers.

The Queen’s husband is currently recuperating from abdominal surgery, leaving the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge waiting to make their final senior royal family introduction.

“William would love nothing more than to see his grandfather and bring everyone together for an official photograph with Prince George,” a royal source said. “It will complete what has been such a happy time for him and Kate.

“Under normal circumstances a christening would have happened around three weeks after the birth. This would have allowed all the family to congregate under the same roof – and family photographs to have been taken. But George’s birth has come right in the middle of the holiday season.”

The timing of the birth means that the family will gather for Prince George’s christening in October – in the same place Wills was baptised 31 years ago, the music room of Buckingham Palace.

Wills and Kate have been busy showing off the royal heir, with Prince Harry shedding tears at his first sight of his nephew. Prince William has also recently vowed to take George to the gravesite of his mother, Princess Diana, in a few months’ time.

Wills and Kate are now believed to be staying with Kate’s parents Carole and Michael in their home in Berkshire, about 90km west of London.

Fennel to provide relief for PMS

Fennel to provide relief for PMS

New research says fennel can do more than flavour our meals – it’s now said to be able improve women’s state-of-mind and wellbeing during their menstrual cycles.

The aniseed-tasting herb is said to relieve pre-menstrual syndrome, after a test group of 36 women in Iran who took drops made from fennel seeds reported feeling less depressed, got along with family and friends better and found it easier to do their jobs.

“After eight weeks, the severity of symptoms had reduced so much that they could do their jobs and have a normal relationships with their friends and family. Depression was also reduced,” said the study’s Dr Hassan Pazoki of Urmia University.

Pre-menstrual syndrome affects most Australian women, with Better Health reporting that 75 per cent of women experience mild symptoms, while 20 to 30 per cent are affected severely. PMS occurs during the lead up to a period and can affect women emotionally and physically.

Fennel is said help rebalance the female sex hormones that are thought to be responsible for PMS.

Despite the results, Professor John Studd from the London PMS and Menopause Clinic has labelled the findings “inconclusive”, claiming the impact was likely to be psychological.

Cheers! Prince Harry celebrates royal birth at London pub

Cheers! Prince Harry celebrates royal birth at London pub

Prince Harry

He’s known as the “Party Prince” and has vowed to be a “fun uncle”, so it was only fitting that Prince Harry celebrated the birth of his new born nephew the only way he knows how — at a London pub.

The 28-year-old new uncle headed to the bar on Monday night after his nephew, HRH Prince George of Cambridge, had arrived that afternoon the Daily Mail reports.

Residents near The Brown Cow pub in Fulham could hear loud cheering at around 8:30pm when the royal birth was announced, and Harry and a group of high-profile friends had arrived at the bar.

“We could hear something was going on and we are several streets away,” a resident said.

“Everyone was very excited and glad that Harry was there. We could clearly hear three cheers go up.”

Prince George’s uncle has vowed to “make sure he has a good upbringing, keep him out of harm’s way, and make sure he has fun”, and the newest addition to the royal family won’t have any shortage of drinking holes where he will be welcomed should he choose to follow in his uncle’s footsteps.

Prince Harry’s favourite London club, Mahiki, has offered the Prince a lifetimes membership which will start “once George reaches the age of 18”.

A pub in Cambridge where George’s parents, the Duke and Duchess of the city, had recently propped up the bar has reserved a seat for the young prince for him to take up once he is of age as well.

The city of Las Vegas where Prince Harry was infamously caught up in a nude photo scandal on a holiday last year has also promised to welcome the young prince when he reaches the US drinking age of 12.

“Congratulations on the royal addition. See you in 21 years”, the city’s tourism authority posted on its facebook page.

Wills vows to take George to visit Diana’s grave

Wills vows to take George to visit Diana’s grave

The Duke of Cambridge plans to make a poignant visit to his mother’s resting place with his newborn son.

The Duke of Cambridge plans to make a poignant visit to his mother’s resting place with his newborn son.

William and Harry make regular journeys to Diana’s grave, situated on a tiny island known as The Oval on the Spencer family estate, but a royal source has revealed that Wills intends to make the visit with Kate and baby George in a few months’ time.

“Diana is very much part of William and Harry’s life,” the source told The Sunday People. “As far as they’re concerned she is with them all the time.

“The princes were so close to their mother and it will always be a tragedy to them that she couldn’t be with them during their adult lives. They visit her often and made a vow they would always share the important times with her.”

William is adamant that Diana will be part of his child’s life.

“As soon as Kate became pregnant, William knew he wanted to introduce the baby to Diana at the earliest opportunity. He wants it to be a regular thing and will explain to his son what a wonderful woman Diana was,” the source continued.

“He not only wants to show off his son to Diana’s family, who are really proud of William, but it is somewhere where he can feel closer to his mum.”

William proposed to Catherine in 2010 with his Diana’s engagement ring. He said at the time it was “my way of making sure my mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement”.
