Prince George joins Dad in Wales

Prince George joins Dad in Wales

The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George have said goodbye to the Middleton family home to join William in Anglesey, north Wales.

Kate and Wills moved in with Kate’s parents Michael and Carole in Berkshire, west of London, after leaving hospital with their infant son a month ago. Kate stayed on with George when Wills returned to work with the Royal Air Force two weeks ago.

With Kate and George now joining Wills in Wales, this will be the first time the young royal family will be together in their own home. Doting grandmother Carole has also moved into the home to support her daughter.

William and Kate have lived for three years in Anglesey, with William having a particular soft spot for the seaside town.

Mum’s ‘morning sex’ rant goes viral

Mum's 'morning sex' rant goes viral

A still from the raunchy ad US mum Rebeca Seitz blogged about.

A mother’s scathing blog post about a raunchy TV advertisement that aired at 8am has gone viral.

Florida woman Rebeca Seitz was watching Good Morning America with her two young children when a commercial came on that nearly caused her to choke on her cornflakes.

The ad, for new ABC drama Betrayal, showed a completely naked couple kissing and apparently having sex.

“Confusion. Disbelief. Did that just flash on my TV screen? In front of eight-year-old Andy?” Rebeca wrote on her blog in a post entitled “Morning Sex”.

“This was a commercial airing while we all enjoy cornflakes and coffee and wish our kiddos a good morning.

“My kid saw that … Not because I took him to a movie wholly inappropriate for his age. Not because I quit parenting and just told him to turn on the TV at 10pm and watch whatever. Not because I turned on a show this morning that he had no business watching with me.”

Within hours, the blog post had been shared by hundreds of thousands and Rebeca was being interviewed by radio shows and websites across the US.

“I cannot ever be okay with naked people having sex in the middle of Good Morning America,” she told conservative website The Blaze.

“Sex is a beautiful exquisite gift between two people who are married.”

Rebeca has since filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission, the body that regulates advertising standards in the US.

But while many Americans obviously agree with Rebeca’s complaints, she has also faced criticism from people accusing her of advocating censorship and “over-sheltering” her child.

Melissa George’s baby joy: I’m having a true blue Aussie

Melissa George's baby joy: I’m having a true blue Aussie

Learning she’s going to be a mother has softened the star’s controversial stance on her Aussie roots.

Former Home And Away favourite Melissa George prompted an avalanche of venom last year with her outburst about no longer needing “credibility” from her birth country.

But as she prepares to take on her most longed-for role ever – as a mother – the 37-year-old Perth native appears to have had a change of heart, insisting her child with French internet entrepreneur Jean-David Blanc will grow up happily entrenched in its Aussie heritage.

“The first food will be little toast soldiers with Vegemite! That’s a must,” she laughs.

And she hopes her little one picks up our light-hearted approach and “all the humour”.

For more about Melissa’s baby joy, see this week’s issue of Woman’s Day, on sale Monday, August 19 2013.

Angelina Jolie’s Aussie shopping spree

Angelina Jolie's Aussie shopping spree

Angelina Jolie is the world’s highest-paid actress (she’s just topped Forbes magazine’s list at $33 million, beating Jennifer Lawrence at $26m), but that didn’t stop her from mixing with the locals during a spot of Sunday-afternoon shopping for her new Aussie pad.

During her whirlwind trip Down Under, Ange, 38, attended a string of business meetings and studio locations in Brisbane and Sydney, before making the most of her final hours at the SupaCenta mall in Sydney’s Moore Park.

Dressed casually and accompanied by her son Pax, 9, Ange wore her trademark large sunglasses as she wandered around the centre.

Speculation has swirled since earlier this year that she and Brad Pitt are keen to buy property here. That may happen sooner rather than later, with Ange scouting locations for her new film, WWII drama Unbroken, and dropping by Contents International Design for furnishings.

For all the goss on what Ange bought, see this week’s issue of Woman’s Day, on sale Monday, August 19 2013.

Behind the cabin curtain: a flight attendant tells all

Behind the cabin curtains lies a world of sex, alcohol and dirty tricks. An ex-hostie lifts the lid on what really goes on when passengers aren't looking.
View from the Top Gwyneth Paltrow

A light and a tampon for attracting attention

New cabin crew have initiation tricks played upon them, ranging from having the lifejacket whistle replaced with a tampon (awkward when you’re supposed to mime blowing into it during the safety demonstration) to the Captain ordering them to go to the middle of the plane and jump up and down to help get stuck wheels to come down before landing.

Sex in the air

At the very back of long-haul aircraft, there’s a little door resembling a cupboard that opens into a tiny stairway leading to some in-built bunk beds. This is where cabin crew sleep on long flights. Some enthusiastic crew have been known to have sex in there.

Jungle juice

There’s a concoction known as “jungle juice” — a potent combination of spirits and juice or soft drink — that cabin crew make for drinking when they go away. If you see a flock of flight attendants swaying gently as they check in at a hotel, it may be an indication they drank it on the bus from the airport.

Your room or mine?

Talking of hotels, crew may have room parties to decompress after a flight. This can include various drinking games, getting to know each other better and other shenanigans. Many a photo of a dishevelled hostie wearing a captain’s hat has emerged from such parties.

Are you going to eat that?

The cabin crew might not be eating the same food as you. On occasion, they might even be tucking into a spare lobster from first class or smoked salmon from business class. Perhaps some untouched posh chocolates re-appropriated from passenger trays. Official crew food, however, isn’t all that different from economy fare.

Thou shalt not fart

There’s an unwritten rule that crew must never break wind in the galley. In such a constricted space, that would be downright anti-social. Instead, there’s an unofficial long-haul manoeuvre known as crop-dusting, in which the offending flight attendant slowly releases the pressure from their gut while wandering through the cabin. This is not covered during training but learned on the job.

In the event of an emergency

If you hear the pilot say something like “will the senior cabin crew member report to the flight deck immediately” over the PA system, say a prayer read your safety card. This is an alert for an emergency, before the pilots brief cabin crew on a plan of action. Don’t start screeching and grab your lifejacket yet though — your best chance is to stay in your seat and listen to the crew’s instructions.

Feeling hot?

If you feel rather flushed on a night flight, it may be because the crew have turned up the heating as a way of getting passengers to go to sleep instead of ringing those damn call buttons with relentless requests for drinks. This is generally quite an effective technique.

Vomit and much, much worse

The job can be dirty for cabin crew: being handed bags of vomit or dirty nappies, for example. Or dealing with bathrooms that have been mistaken for squat toilets or thrown up in. There are stories of burst colostomy bags and violent gastro bugs. You get the picture.

The Mile High Club

Passengers do join the Mile High Club. Most often in the toilets. The giveaway is the flimsy door vibrating (plus occasional grunts and queue outside). On more than one occasion, I had to interrupt with a knock and innocent “Are you okay in there?” Sexy? Romantic? Hygienic? I think not. Get a room.
