Transgender couple take a stand against trolls

Transgender couple take a stand against trolls

Louis Davies and Jamie Eagle on This Morning.

A transgender couple have taken their love public to challenge the trolls who make their lives hell.

Jamie Eagle, 20, who was born a boy, and Louis Davies, 25, who was born a girl, are both “transitioning” between genders.

They met last year and have been inseparable ever since, getting engaged in March.

Until recently, they kept their love a secret because they lived in a small town in Wales, but have decided to publicise their relationship to take a stand against the abuse they receive daily.

The couple chose UK breakfast TV show This Morning to tell the world about their love but say taking their romance public has dramatically increased the hate attacks they face both online and in person.

Jamie says she can’t go out alone because she is constantly followed by people threatening to attack her. She is also plagued by anonymous internet trolls and has started taking antidepressants.

Despite this, she doesn’t regret taking a stand because she feels raising awareness of her life is the only way things will change for transgender people.

“It’s like gay people, black people and women,” she told the UK’s Independent newspaper. “None of these groups would have the rights they do if they hadn’t fought to change negative stereotypes and perceptions.

“By going public, I feel like I’m doing my bit to help change history.”

Jamie says the messages of support she has received from other transgender people and their families have confirmed she made the right decision to speak out.

“So many people have told me I’ve inspired them and loads of people have come to me for advice, including parents of young children,” she said.

Jamie and Louis are planning to have gender reassignment surgery in the next 12 months and will then marry. They have vowed to wait until they are husband and wife to become intimate with each other.

New film will “challenge” beliefs about Diana and Dodi

New film will “challenge” beliefs about Diana and Dodi

The actor who portrays Princess Diana’s boyfriend Dodi Fayed in the new biopic about the late royal says the film will change perceptions about the much-maligned Egyptian playboy.

Cas Anvar, who plays Dodi alongside Naomi Watts’s Princess of Wales in the upcoming movie Diana, says his extensive research into the 42-year-old film producer revealed he wasn’t the bad guy many painted him to be.

“I was not aware that the general public, especially in Europe, viewed Dodi as a bad guy,” the Canadian actor told MailOnline.

“I was quite surprised when I heard it, because that is not how I portray him. He could have been a typical rich, unsavoury, unpleasant guy, because he didn’t have to answer to anyone.

“But I have talked dozens of people and they all say he was a kind man.”

Diana focuses on the much-loved princess’s love-life leading up to the 1997 Paris car crash that took her and Dodi’s lives.

“What happens in this movie will challenge quite a lot of commonly accepted things that people think about Dodi and Diana,” Cas says.

“One thing people don’t know is that they knew each other from childhood and they used to play together as teens. And he genuinely loved Diana – he didn’t have any reason to fake that.”

Dodi’s father’s, billionaire business magnate Mohamed Al-Fayed, maintains that Prince Charles and his father Prince Philip ordered the death of the couple because Charles was angry that Diana was dating Dodi.

Both the royal and Fayed families have been invited to next month’s London premiere. Neither is expected to attend.

A Sunny addition to the Obama clan

A Sunny addition to the Obama clan

US President Obama has added a new member to his White House team: a black, curly-haired, six-month-old Portuguese Water Dog named Sunny.

The adorable female pup was welcomed into the Obama family on Monday by the President, 52, the First Lady, 49, and their daughters Malia, 15, and Sasha, 12.

Sunny travelled from Michigan to join the Obamas and their other dog, four-year-old Bo, who is the same breed.

Sunny’s arrival was announced on the White House blog, accompanied by a video and some happy snaps. It’s a far cry from 2009, when Bo’s arrival had to be kept secret for three days before an official announcement was made to the press corps.

On the blog, the White House said Sunny would “follow in Bo’s footsteps and keep the President company in the Oval Office, go for walks with the First Family after their 6:30 family dinner and even jump up on the First Lady’s lap from time to time!”

You can bet Sunny will be one pampered pooch!

How would you like your eggs? Living with unexplained infertility

How would you like your eggs? Living with unexplained infertility

Debora Krizak knows the pain of unexplained fertility, and the pride of being a parent after a long and painful journey. In an extract from her book How would you like your eggs? she shares her experience.

I was emptying out my bedside drawers the other day when I stumbled across a half empty box of oral contraceptives. It seemed like a lifetime ago that I had taken them and so I flipped the packet around to have a look at the issue date. 2001. That’s how long I had been off the pill. I’d never really thought about pregnancy before now. My husband and I believed nature would take its own course. Let it be a surprise if we were to get pregnant, and all the romantic notions that go along with it. Five years later and nothing.

Time is a funny concept. The older we get, the faster it goes and we’re middle aged before we’ve even had a chance to enjoy our youth. It creeps up on you like those fine lines on your face that we’re forever battling to erase. In those five years that I had been off the pill, I never gave much thought as to why I hadn’t fallen pregnant. That was until the dreaded baby shower invites started to arrive. Of my ten closest girlfriends, seven were pregnant and expecting within three months. I sighed as I said goodbye to the long ladies lunches and designer clothing. It would soon be about 10am brunches in the park, glasses of maison and baby Dior.

Watching others around me embark on motherhood certainly made me curious to get started. I didn’t want to be left behind but as it turned out, Mother Nature had her own plan. Month after month we tried every trick in the book to get pregnant — standing on my head after sex, elevating the hips, herbal potions, cutting back on our beloved wine and eliminating all coffee and artificial sugar. There had to be something stopping us from getting pregnant. Everyone else did it so easily. Why couldn’t we? It was time to do some further investigation. I was 34 and didn’t want to leave it any longer. I didn’t want to reach my forties and be left without a choice. I’d tried everything and was getting exhausted failing month after month. Physically, it was tough but it was getting even harder emotionally. Sex for pleasure was a becoming a distant memory and the schedule was beginning to take its toll on me.

Everywhere I went I was confronted with swelling, pregnant bellies and menacing questions about when we would be starting a family. These would echo in my head night after night. Why me? Why us? What was wrong with me? What was wrong with us? Apparently nothing I’m told. We are both perfectly healthy and capable of obtaining a natural pregnancy. Yet it hasn’t happened. It’s called ‘unexplained infertility’. I couldn’t help feeling like a bad egg.

The phone rings. It’s another joyous pregnancy announcement. I do my best “I’m so happy for you”, holding back the tears. “How long have you been trying?” Only one month. The first try. Bam. Pregnant. I want to throw the phone. I hate you. I don’t want to see you. No I don’t mean that. I just can’t face you right now. I can’t face my own infertility. I’m drowning in grief. Grief for not being able to discover that same joy. I want to pee on a stick and wave it proudly to the world. I want to fall pregnant unexpectedly and tell my Mum on Christmas day. But it’s not my journey.

Instead, I inject myself with drugs two times a day to make my ovaries swell after putting me in a drug induced menopausal state to switch off my own hormones. I’m now at the mercy of science and daily blood tests. My arms look like a pin cushion and the hot flushes are driving me insane. I get a picture of my 3 day old embryo to place on my fridge, right there beside my daily shopping list. Every affair with the lab costs thousands of dollars. I feel dirty handing over the money to buy a small chance for having a little baby of my own. On my fourth cycle of IVF, I get the news I’ve been dreaming about for so long. I’m pregnant and I get a tiny picture of my eight cell miracle to place on my fridge. Everything is riding on that one tiny picture. The closest I’ve ever felt to having life grow inside of me.

But I learn that a positive pregnancy test doesn’t mean I’ll have a baby to hold in my arms. It’s just another crushing blow to this infertility saga. There’s a thing called ‘chemical pregnancy’ which is technically not a ‘miscarriage’ but I’ve been subtly graced with that one too as I said goodbye to my baby down a rusted toilet pipe in the cold countryside of Hunstanton, UK, This is my only recollection of my holiday overseas as I treated myself to a break away from IVF but cruelly found myself pregnant en route.

None of the memories leave me. I remember the struggle so clearly. But I’m the “lucky one”. So much so, that when my twin baby miracles finally arrived, I’d rush them to the emergency room at the slightest sound of a cough or a wheeze for fear that they would still somehow be taken from me. I live in complete fear.

So when people stop me to stare at my babies and ask “Do you have twins in the family?”, insinuating they were a “natural” conception, I smile proudly back at them and say “No, these are my IVF babies … Five years in the making”. Then I check to make sure they’re still breathing.

I loved you before you were mine. I loved you before your heart started beating. I waited so long to meet you and at times I just didn’t know when, how or why. But now it’s all so clear. If I had not waited, I wouldn’t have you. And it is you that is the perfect soul for me. It was you that I was waiting so long for and it was worth every living moment. I love you my dear child.

The 44-year-old actress donned a floor-length tangerine Roksanda Ilincic dress to walk the blue carpet at the Orpheum theatre in Cremorne.

The boldly-coloured gown accentuated Cate’s willowy figure and brought a rosy glow to her complexion, which looked even more flawless than usual.

Blue Jasmine, Cate’s first collaboration with iconic director Woody Allen, is already attracting Oscar buzz, something Cate was keen to play down last night.

“It’s nice, but what month are we in?” she told News Limited. “That’s shorthand for people saying they liked the character.”

The film sees Cate play New York socialite Jasmine, who has a nervous breakdown and goes to live with her sister Ginger.

New report: How Kim Kardashian got that butt

New report: How Kim Kardashian got that butt

It’s long been cause for speculation, but now there might be a definitive answer to “How did Kim Kardashian get that butt?”

A popular belief has been that the 32-year-old has had buttock implants, and a new report claims that surgical enhancement is involved. But implants? Not exactly…

“Kim had lipo on her legs and the doctor moved the fat into her butt,” a source told The Making of Kim Kardashian – a new publication created by the editors of Life & Style, devoted to the reality TV star.

In the past, Kim has claimed she is not against plastic surgery but “the only thing” she’s tried is Botox. To prove how natural her famous derriere is, Kim released an x-ray of the area in question. But, according to The Making of Kim Kardashian, if the enhancement is her own fat, it wouldn’t show up.

“It definitely appears that Kim had her butt augmented,” plastic surgeon Dr Michelle Copeland told the publication. “An implant has to be radio opaque to show up on an X-ray, so it’s possible she has a type of implant that would not be detected.”

In any case, the guesswork continues on just what’s behind Kim’s, er, behind.

First official royal baby photos released

First official royal baby photos released

The first official photos of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with Prince George have been released.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chosen to release two family photographs with their son, Prince George,” a statement from Kensington Palace read.

“The photographs were taken by Mr Michael Middleton in early August in the garden of the Middleton family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire.”

Wills and Catherine have shied away from tradition with the photos, opting for a more casual family shot taken by Kate’s father, rather than a professional job.

This reflects the royal couple’s down to earth approach to parenting and their royal duties, and will no doubt be a popular choice with the public.

Their beloved dog Lupo even appears in the picture, helping to paint a personal and sincere picture of the happy new family.

Wills, Kate and baby George have been lying low at the Middleton family home since soon after the birth of baby George, and have managed to stay away from the cameras.

William has appeared at two official royal engagements since becoming a dad, the first a charity polo tournament and the other an agricultural show on the Welsh island of Anglesey – where he and Kate previously lived.

The Duchess is expected to make her first official appearance at a charity dinner with William on September 12.
