Robyn Lawley says stop body-shaming

Robyn Lawley says stop body-shaming

Robyn Lawley

She may be known for her figure but model Robyn Lawley doesn’t want to be a “figurehead” for plus-size women, and says promoting ‘curves’ is just as bad as making women feel pressured to be thin.

The Australian model made her statements in an interview with The Guardian saying promoting a curvy figure as an ideal body type was “blatantly offensive to thin women”.

“Curves don’t epitomise a woman,” she said.

“Saying, ‘skinny is ugly’ should be no more acceptable than saying fat is.

“I find all this stuff a very controlling and effective way of making women obsess over their weight, instead of exploiting their more important attributes, such as intellect, strength and power.

“We could be getting angry about unequal pay and unequal opportunities, but we’re too busy being told we’re not thin enough or curvy enough. We’re holding ourselves back.”

Lawley, who is a size 16, also made a call for more diversity of models in the fashion industry.

“We need a range of ages and ethnicities,” she said.

“They are just very thin, white, 16-year-old girls on the catwalk and that has to change.”

The Sydney native began her career as a “straight size” model, but would often miss out on jobs to much thinner girls.

Since joining a plus-size modelling agency the 24-year-old has taken the fashion world by storm, and while she hates the labels that go with it, she is happy to be representing a different body type and “helping in a small way” to “move things on” in the fashion industry, and says that she herself is not immune to the pressures the industry promotes.

“I’ve seen the magazines, the TV shows, the celebrity articles, the same as everyone else,” she said.

“And I know they have a devastating effecting on young. Don’t use the words fat, skinny or diet.”

Fergie ‘rekindles romance’ with Prince Andrew

Fergie 'rekindles romance' with Prince Andrew

Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew shortly before their divorce.

Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew have reportedly rekindled their romance 17 years after their divorce.

Friends say the Duke and Duchess of York, both 53, have quietly got back together and are even considering getting remarried, the UK’s Telegraph newspaper reports.

“Mark my words, they will remarry,” one insider told the publication. “It is only a matter of time.”

The speculation came as Sarah joined Andrew and daughters Beatrice and Eugenie for a weekend at Balmoral, the Queen’s Scottish Highlands retreat.

It’s the first time Sarah has been welcome at the castle since 1992, when photographs of her having her toes sucked by her “financial advisor” were published.

The infamous incident saw Sarah banished from the royal family’s inner circle but she and Andrew have remained close, both living at the Royal Lodge in Windsor.

They have both dated other people, but have struggled to find a lasting relationship after their 1996 divorce.

“There has always been this bond between them and they are incredibly close,” another friend said.

“It is, understandably, strange to some that they still live together so many years after their divorce, but they really do get on brilliantly and are hugely supportive of each other. Their biggest bond, however, is the girls.”

A spokesman for the Duchess has firmly denied rumours of a new relationship.

“They continue to be joint parents and best friends and try to set the best example for the girls,” he said.

Fergie and Prince Andrew to remarry?!

Fergie and Prince Andrew to remarry?!

Love has struck again for Fergie, the Duchess of York, but with the most unlikely partner – her ex-husband, the Duke of York, Prince Andrew!

Friends of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, both 53, have set the rumour mills into overdrive, with tongues wagging that the couple, who separated amid scandal in 1992, are not only dating again but plan to wed each other for the second time.

Rumours of a reconciliation between the two began earlier this month when Fergie and Andrew were spotted on a family trip with their daughters, Beatrice, 25, and Eugenie, 23, while visiting the Queen in Balmoral.

Andrew and Sarah were childhood friends who married with the Queen’s blessing in Westminster Abbey in 1986 and had two children together before officially divorcing in 1996.

Sarah became a victim of the British tabloids after her divorce, accused of overspending and disrespectful flirtations with male companions while also being widely ridiculed for her weight..

But despite the controversy and tumult, the couple has remained great friends since their divorce, sharing the royal lodge in Windsor and raising their daughters together.

A royal spokeswoman for the Duchess denied the couple will remarry, telling the Daily Mail , “They continue to be joint parents and best friends and try to set the best example for the girls.”

However, a friend close to the pair voiced another opinion, “Mark my words, they will remarry. It is only a matter of time.”

Prince Harry to give up bachelor life

Prince Harry to give up bachelor life

It appears the last of the Prince of Wales bachelors has been snapped up, with Kensington Palace expecting Prince Harry to announce his engagement to Cressida Bonas by the end of this year.

Prince Harry, 28, has been dating the 24-year-old blonde society girl and dance student for 15 months after they were introduced by his cousin, Princess Eugenie in May last year.

Already something of an aristocratic insider, Cressida comes from a well-to-do family.

Her mother, Lady Mary-Gaye Georgiana Lorna Curzon, was a 1960s pin-up girl and is the daughter of the 6th Earl Howe. Cressida’s father, Jeffrey Bonas, meanwhile is a well-connected Harrovian entrepreneur.

But despite her impeccable pedigree, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing for her and Harry.

He almost lost his chance with Cressida after naked photos of him partying in Las Vegas emerged.

The couple are said to have split over this very public incident before rekindling their romance shortly after.

The UK paper the Daily Star Sunday has quoted sources stating that Harry has privately joked about proposing to Cessida “any day now”.

“The way it’s looking now people close to Harry and Cressida predict an engagement by the end of the year and a spring wedding,” a source said.

“Cressida is The One,” the source explained. “People have heard Harry talking about how special Cress is and about getting engaged.”

Looks like we’ll be in for another royal wedding next year!

Diana’s former lover slams new biopic

Diana's former lover slams new biopic

Naveen Andrews and Naomi Watts as Dr Hasnat Khan and Princess Diana in the upcoming movie.

Princess Diana’s former boyfriend Hasnat Khan has slammed the upcoming movie that portrays the couple’s relationship saying it is “complete wrong” and he will never watch it.

The heart surgeon from Pakistan who was romantically involved with the Princess in her final years criticised the film in a rare interview with the Mail on Sunday newspaper.

Dr Khan was scathing in his reaction to the movie, ‘Diana’, and denied giving approval to the film’s creators to portray his personal life.

The film, starring Naomi Watts, follows the final two years of Diana’s life and focuses on the couple’s relationship, but according one of the real life central characters, it is inaccurate.

“It is based on gossip and Diana’s friends talking about a relationship that they didn’t know much about, and some of my relatives who didn’t know much about it either. It is all based on hypotheses and gossip,” he said.

Khan has not seen the film, but said he “could tell” from still pictures released in the lead-up to the movie’s September opening showing the couple in an affectionate embrace that he was being portrayed inaccurately.

“You could tell from that picture that it is all just presumed about how we would behave with each other, and they have got it completely wrong.”

The film is based on Kate Snell’s 2001 book Diana: Her Last Love, which Khan was not consulted on either.

Speaking of his relationship with the Princess of Wales, Khan said they were equal, but he understand why Diana had to end the relationship shortly before her death in 1997 crediting media intrusion and the lack of progression in their relationship.

“There wasn’t any hierarchy in our relationship. She wasn’t a Princess and I wasn’t a doctor,” he said.

“Even after two years, the relationship wasn’t leading to a meaningful progression or conclusion and that was the main stress on both of us.”

The royal family has not commented on the film, but Naomi Watts has said she was nervous about stepping into the role of one of history’s most admired women, and has expressed concern over Princes William and Harry’s reaction to the film.

In a recent interview with the Mail on Sunday she said she would “hate to upset them”.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones

Michael Douglas is reportedly preparing to announce he has ended his 13-year marriage to Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The 68-year-old actor — who is currently holidaying alone in Sardinia — will release a statement confirming his marriage is over in the few days, the UK’s Daily Mirror newspaper reports.

“Michael is going to announce the split soon,” an insider allegedly told the publication. “Catherine is fighting to save the marriage but he’s had it.”

Michael and Catherine, 43, have not been pictured together in public for four months.

His spokesperson refused to confirm or deny the claims, saying simply: “I won’t talk about that.”

Rumours the couple’s marriage is on the rocks have been swirling for months.

They have certainly been through a lot in recent years — Michael battled throat cancer in 2011 and Catherine went through two highly-publicised stints in a treatment facility for bi-polar disorder shortly afterwards.

The couple married in a lavish ceremony at New York’s Plaza Hotel in 2000. They have two children, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10.
