Ricky Martin: “I bullied gay people”

As an openly gay man, Ricky Martin has been on the receiving end of homophobic slurs so it might surprise you to hear that he was once the one making them.
How Ricky Martin's babies changed him: 'It gives me goose bumps how special they are'

As an openly gay man, Ricky Martin has been on the receiving end of homophobic slurs so it might surprise you to hear that he was once the one making them.

Ricky, 41, has revealed he “bullied” gay men when he was a teenager growing up in Puerto Rico.

“I look back now and realise I would bully people who I knew were gay,” Ricky told the current issue of GQ Australia.

“I had internalised homophobia. To realise that was confronting to me. I wanted to get away from that.”

Ricky said his struggle with his sexuality lingered until he became a father to twin boys Matteo and Valentino in 2008.

“I didn’t want them growing up in a house of lies or thinking that there was something wrong with being gay,” he said.

Ricky came out in a statement on his website in 2010.

“I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man,” he wrote. “I am very blessed to be who I am.”

Nic’s life after Tom: “I smile now!”

Nic's life after Tom: "I smile now!"

In a surprise move, an always-poised and private Nicole Kidman has opened up about her “fantasy life” with Tom Cruise, labelling it unbalanced and unhealthy.

And Cher may have called him one of her “greatest” lovers, but Nicole Kidman’s life with her ex-husband was anything but enjoyable.

The 46-year-old Aussie siren was recently promoting her new film Stoker when a reporter from Victorian newspaper The Border Mail candidly asked the Moulin Rouge! star if she was happy.

“Yes. Happy in the sense that I have my girls and my husband and I have a very, very strong real life to counterbalance my fantasy life now,” the star replied.

“My fantasy life used to outweigh that more and now I’ve kind of balanced it, which is a lot healthier.” Nicole added: “I smile now!”

Nic’s 2001 split from the Mission: Impossible star drew plenty of attention, not only as they were Hollywood’s poster couple, but also because Nicole walked away from the Church of Scientology – and without their two adopted children Isabella, 20, and Connor, 18.

Nicole has since remarried – to Aussie country singer Keith Urban in 2006 – and says the couple try their best to put each other first and live a balanced life with their two daughters Sunday, 5, and Faith, 3.

“It’s not even balance. I say, ‘Is this going to work for our family?’ and Keith and I sort of talk about it and there are times when he’s said no and then I don’t do it,” the actress revealed.

“And I’m absolutely fine with that because I want my marriage and want my family more than I want anything else.”

So how does the resident of Nashville, Tennessee, feel spending most of her time away from Sydney and her rural retreat in Sutton Forest, NSW?

“I love music and beyond that, I love the nature; we can go to the Smoky Mountains and rent a cabin, you know? We have a very quiet life there – which is great.”

Stoker opens in cinemas on August 29.

Katie Holmes plays the bride for movie role

Katie Holmes is back in a white dress and veil, but only to shoot scenes from her new movie.

The 34-year old was sporting bridal getup on the set of Miss Meadows this weekend, in her native Cleveland, Ohio.

The unusual black Mary Jane heels and ankle socks the actress was wearing were a dead giveaway for the fact that she was not heading for a real wedding, as her personal style is much more glamorous.

According to Film Bridge International, Miss Meadows is a dark comedy which tells the story of tale of a seemingly kind and beautiful woman, who’s on a mission to rid the community of “predators and evil of all kinds with her well-polished little gun inside her pocketbook.”

Katie has been spotted treating daughter Suri to ice cream in the area in between filming.

Carole to move in with William and Kate

Carole Middleton to move in with Will and Kate

Carole Middleton after visiting baby George for the first time last night.

Most young couples shudder at the very thought sharing a roof with their parents but the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are so keen to keep her parents close they’ve built them a room in their new Kensington Palace apartment.

William and Kate moved into the Middleton’s Berkshire home a couple of days after the birth of Prince George last month.

They have stayed there ever since, only leaving to spend a few nights at their Anglesey farmhouse accompanied, of course, by doting grandmother Carole.

In October, the new family will leave Berkshire for good to move into their newly renovated 21-room apartment at Kensington Palace.

But their change of address doesn’t mean seeing less of Carole — the UK’s Daily Telegraph reports the couple’s new home has at least one guest room set aside for the Middletons.

William and Kate have bucked royal tradition by not employing a full-time nanny, instead relying on a few part-time carers who will take care of the baby while they are out completing official royal duties.

Without professional help, the new parents have been leaning heavily on Carole to support them through the first few weeks of George’s life.

Even grandfather Michael Middleton has played a pivotal role, taking the photos that became the first official portraits of the new prince.

Carole also took a “strong interest” in the interior decoration of Kate and William’s new apartment, helping her daughter choose everything from paint colour to furniture.

The royal in-laws are moving in

The royal in-laws are moving in

The Duke of Cambridge is playing the world’s most accommodating son-in-law by making sure the Middletons have a grand suite at Kensington Palace – and says he’s “pleased” with the idea!

Carole Middleton hasn’t been far from her daughter’s side since the birth of her grandson Prince George. Kate’s parents were the first people to visit the royal couple in hospital and have until recently been looking after Kate and George at the comfortable Middleton family home Bucklebury, Berkshire.

The young royals are currently back home in Anglesey, Wales, while their 21-room Kensington Palace apartment is being renovated to the tune of $1.7 million.

Kate has had a large say about the design and layout of the renovations, helping to create a private parental abode, which includes two bedrooms, a bathroom, dining area and a lavish sitting room.

Kate and Wills seem determined to raise George surrounded by close family instead of royal maids and nannies.

The couple have respectfully paved their own way, defying royal traditions, by not hiring an entourage of housekeeping staff and allowing Kate’s dad Michael to take their first family portrait in his garden.

It looks like Carole Middleton will be a constant companion for Kate and George at Kensington Palace when they move in next month.

Prince Harry to pop the question ‘any day now’

Prince Harry and on again - off again love interest Cressida

Prince Harry and his current love interest, Cressida Bonas.

Another royal wedding could be just around the corner with reports that Prince Harry is preparing to pop the question.

The 28-year-old prince’s relationship with dancer Cressida Bonas has been getting serious and friends of the couple say he has been hinting at a proposal ‘any day now’.

“The way it’s looking now people close to Harry and Cressida predict an engagement by the end of the year and a spring wedding,” a royal insider told the Daily Star newspaper.

“Cressida is The One,” the source said.

“People have heard Harry talking about how special Cress is and about getting engaged.”

Rumours of marriage for the couple have been hanging around for months, but gained momentum recently as Harry whisked Cressida off on an African safari — just as his brother William did when he proposed to then Kate Middleton in 2010.

Kensington Palace — the London residence of Prince Harry, William, Kate, and baby George — is said to be holding dates for ‘an announcement’ later this year, fuelling rumours of a spring wedding for Harry and Cressida.

Prince Harry is said to be “very fond” of the 24-year-old dance student, according to friends, and they go to great lengths to keep their relationship private after his last flame reportedly fizzled out following reports ex-girlfriend, Chelsy Davy, was uncomfortable with the focus and attention that royal life brings.

Cressida, who comes from an aristocratic family, is said to be similarly uncomfortable in the royal spotlight and the couple are rarely photographed together.

They were spotted kissing on the ski slopes shortly after they started dating last July, and friends have described their relationship as a “full-on romance”.

Last month a friend of the couple told E! News Harry was convinced his blonde partner was “the one”.

“I would not be surprised if she’s the one he marries,” the friend said.

Celebrity salaries: They’re paid how much?!

Celebrity salaries: They're paid how much?!

When you watch your favourite show, keep in mind that its big stars earn your yearly salary … in mere minutes!

Ed O’Neill

Playing Modern Family’s grumpy patriarch has made Ed the show’s highest-earning cast member. Now commanding $222,000 an episode, plus a share of profits, the former Married… With Children star is worth $44m. We can guess what Al Bundy would say…

Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen and Eric Stonestreet

Following a salary stand-off, this star trio last year received a whopping increase from $72,000 to $194,000 each an episode. Julie now calls a renovated ranch her home and Sofia owns luxury properties in the US and Colombia – which she’s helped pay for with her many endorsements.

The kids are all right

They may be young, but there’s nothing pint-sized about the earnings of these sitcom stars. After month-long negotiations, the Modern Family kids – Rico Rodriguez (Manny), Ariel Winter (Alex) and Sarah Hyland (Haley) – each saw their salaries tripled to $77,000 an episode. But even though she’s now rich, life is far from easy for Ariel, who has been living with her older sister since late last year, after being removed from her mum’s home amid abuse allegations.

To find out the huge sums other screen favourites are paid, see this week’s issue of Woman’s Day, on sale Monday, August 26 2013.

Magician Cosentino enchants Woman’s Day!

Magician Cosentino enchants Woman's Day!

It was a cynical crowd but the grand illusionist had us spellbound…

When Australia’s most famous magician, Cosentino, strode into our offices, he was faced with more than just a cramped performance space – he had to turn a sceptical audience into believers.

But we were hypnotised as we tried to follow his every flourish, not least when he turned deputy editor Claire Isaac’s $50 note into five dollars… and then back again, much to her relief!

“I love seeing people’s reactions,” says Cosentino, who taught himself magic tricks from a book at age 12.

While his dazzling show for our team focused on his smaller close-up illusions, his real passion lies in the very big and public death-defying acts we see plenty of in his new TV special.

“It’s bigger, it’s more dangerous – the stunts are extraordinary!” he says of the follow-up to his 2012 ratings hit. “I’ve taken the first special and put it on steroids.”

For more about Consentino’s new show, see this week’s issue of Woman’s Day, on sale Monday, August 26 2013.
