I own Australia’s biggest wardrobe!

Picture: Tertius Pickard

60 belts, 90 hats, 600 dresses, 700 pairs of shoes! This insatiable Queensland shopper has the lady lair of our dreams…

Fashion tragic Fiona Lale is living out her Sex And The City fantasy. The lovable Queenslander has what she says is Australia’s biggest wardrobe – and concedes it could get bigger!

“It’s been a dream of mine for years, and after I saw Carrie’s lavish wardrobe from Sex And The City in 2008, I wanted one, too,” says Fiona, 45, with a laugh.

“My husband Dave took some convincing so I think if I ask for an additional wing now I might be pushing it – though I could fill it.”

The size of a double garage, her beloved “lady lair” is bigger than some of her favourite boutiques. Inside, Fiona estimates she has more than 700 pairs of shoes and 600 dresses. And when it comes to putting a dollar value on her clothes, even a conservative estimate sounds shocking.

Read more about Fiona’s wardrobe in this week’s issue of Woman’s Day, on sale Monday, September 2, 2013.

The problem with Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus shocked millions with her risque costume and provocative performance at last week and Zoe Arnold was one of them. She breaks down what was wrong with Miley's stunt and what she can learn from popstars of the past.
Miley Cyrus's performance at MTV Awards.

Ahhh, Miley.

I have thought about you a lot this past week, which you’re probably thrilled about. I’m afraid my thoughts have not translated to album sales, but I certainly know more about ‘twerking’ than I ever thought I would.

I don’t quite get your dancing ‘style’ where you habitually dry hump objects, while simulating oral sex on various objects.

I understand that I’m not your target market. But young girls are, and that’s what my problem is. I have young girls, and it terrifies me that you are a pre-teen idol.

You’re not the only one who gets up on stage wearing little more than lingerie, I know. There are a lot of you, and while I don’t think you have to be semi-naked to show off your spunky little body — that actually isn’t my issue either.

It’s the sex stuff. You, rubbing your derriere against Robin Thicke’s crotch while licking your lips, you, rubbing a large foam finger in between his legs.

For those who missed it, well done! Millions worldwide have watched the dance routine in question, and Miley’s signature move has its own definition in the Oxford Dictionary.

Pippa Middleton ‘secretly engaged’

Pippa Middleton 'secretly engaged'

Pippa Middleton and Nico Jackson weren't afraid to show their affection for each other at Wimbledon last week.

Two years after accompanying her sister Kate down the aisle, Pippa Middleton, the world’s most famous bridesmaid, is ready to become a bride, a UK newspaper has reported.

A friend of Pippa has told the paper Pippa was ready to seal the deal with boyfriend Nico Jackson and that the couple were already secretly engaged with the news expected to be announced after her 30th birthday next week.

“Pippa loved seeing Kate going down the aisle and now it is her turn for a fairytale wedding,” the insider told Sunday People.

“She couldn’t be more sure that Nico is the right man for her. They are such a good fit for each other and their families get on really well. Everyone is so happy for Pippa.”

The pair are thought to have become engaged in June shortly before the Wimbledon tennis tournament which they attended together, but friends say they have held off making any announcement so not to steal the spotlight from Pippa’s sister, the Duchess of Cambridge, and baby Prince George.

Pippa, 29, has been dating 35-year-old stockbroker Nico Jackson for six months, and anticipation of their impending nuptials has led to speculation the Duchess of Cambridge will return the favour and be bridesmaid to her younger sister.

“Everyone knows how close the sisters are but at this stage the final arrangements are a long way off. Pippa’s wedding will be a huge occasion but if Kate is bridesmaid it will be even more high-profile,” the friend said.

“One of the things Pippa likes most is the way Nico is so relaxed aroud her parents. They really like him.

“Her mum Carole is behind the engagement 100 per cent. And Carole and Nico’s mum Ulrike get on like a house on fire.”

New book claims Kate ‘plotted’ to seduce William

New book claims Kate 'plotted' to seduce William

Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.

A new book about the Duchess of Cambridge claims she went to great lengths to pursue the Prince who is now her husband and father of her child, switching her university choice and taking a well-timed gap year in order to study alongside Prince William.

In Kate: The Future Queen, British journalist Katie Nichol claims Kate snubbed an offer to study at Edinburgh University — one of the country’s top institutions — to attend St Andrews after it was made public that Wills would be studying there.

A careers advisor from Kate’s former school, Jasper Selwyn, told Ms Nichol Kate’s first choice of university had been Edinburgh, but she had turned it down.

William and Kate arrived at St Andrews in 2001 and wound up in the same art history class, previously thought to be a coincidence. But they first met in the Prince’s ‘den’ at his country estate, after Kate had fallen into a group of friends who mixed in royal circles, the book reveals.

The book details the couple’s early romance and reveals a then 24-year-old Kate called things off with William in 2007 after she was left ‘humiliated’ when pictures of William were published with two girls at a nightclub, and called him on his partying ways.

Nichols’ book goes on to detail how their relationship was rekindled with some help from Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton.

Now ‘Granny’ Carole was said to have had a ‘secret summit’ with Prince William when he came to her with marriage on his mind in 2009.

In the book, a family friend tells of Carole’s fears that William might not put a ring on it which she expressed to the Prince, and how she ensured she would have a role in the lives of their children.

“It was a condition when Kate and William got married that Carole and Michael would be part of the grandchildren’s lives,” a family friend told Ms Nichol.

The first-time grandmother has certainly been active in the early life of Kate and William’s first child, Prince George, now six weeks old.

Kate paid tribute to Carole during an appearance in Wales on Friday, revealing ‘Granny’ had taken over babysitting duties as the new mum made her first post birth outing.

Budget family travel

Before you spend a fortune on airfares and accommodation, take a few minutes to get online and hunt for the best holiday deals.

You can save upwards of 50 per cent on your overall travel costs if you take advantage of special offers online and then haggle with your travel agent.

Last-minute holidays may be romantic in their spontaneity, but they’ll also cost you a package. Book early to take advantage of early bird fares and discounts. And ask for your concession if you’re a senior or pensioner.

If you’re prepared to fly from other terminals and, in some cases, airports, you can get some fabulous deals. But if you’ve booked connecting flights, make sure they arrive and depart from the same airport, or that you leave enough time to get to your new departure point.

Don’t forget to factor in the time it takes to collect your baggage. Download the map of your destination airport and study it before you leave to make reaching your connecting flight/terminal less stressful.

Flying mid-week is often the cheapest time. If you have a choice, travel off-season and save up to 80 per cent on your air fares.

Some airlines now charge for in-flight entertainment, so pack the kids’ hand-held video games, and check websites for free puzzles, games and colouring books to keep the kids amused in the air. Websites such as (www.crayola.com )have great resources.

Watch the luggage weight limits, especially if you are flying a budget airline. They often cut fares because they charge for checked baggage weight.

Check to see if you can pre-pay your baggage and save. Alternatively, travel light and use your free carry-on allowance.

The internet is a great tool for finding local offers and discounts to tourists. Look up the tourist sites for where you’re travelling, as well as attractions, and check what offers they have in store for visitors.

Wotif.com is fantastic for accommodation deals, with weekend packages and even mid-week accommodation at a fraction of the regular room rate.

You can even check out what others have to say about your holiday digs by searching on www.tripadvisor.com – you’ll find reviews and ratings from people who have already stayed hotels around the world.

Slim Kate’s “hardly done anything” to lose post-baby weight

Slim Kate's "hardly done anything" to lose post-baby weight

Just five weeks after giving birth, Kate has bounced back to her regular size – and, a source tells Us Weekly, she’s “hardly done anything to lose the weight”.

Earlier this week, the Duchess was spotted on a grocery run looking as slim as ever. “She looks incredible,” the Middleton family insider says. “A few weeks after George was born, you could hardly tell she had just given birth.”

The 31-year-old royal was seen pushing her own trolley through the supermarket wearing a chic monochrome ensemble of a striped top and black skinny jeans.

“Kate’s still breastfeeding and the small weight she gained while pregnant has just melted off,” adds the source.

“She’s not dieting. After giving birth, she did continue with her yoga.”

Yoga was also a strong part of Kate’s prenatal exercise regime, taking regular lessons from a private instructor. And it seems taking frequent brisk walks with her and Prince William’s dog Lupo has also paid fitness dividends after Prince George’s arrival.

Sandra Bullock stuns on red carpet with George Clooney

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney at the opening of the Venice Film Festival.

All eyes were on Sandra Bullock at the opening of the Venice Film Festival, especially those of her co-star, George Clooney.

The pair arrived by boat to the Palazzo del Cinema for the red carpet premiere of their new film, Gravity.

The 49-year-old leading lady looked stunning in a vibrant scarlet strapless gown by J. Mendel teamed with chic black accessories.

Clooney, 52, arrived on the arm of his co-star in a black tuxedo to present the new action thriller in which they not only star, but make up the entire cast.

The pair play astronauts stranded in space after their shuttle is damaged by a destroyed satellite in the 3D film which is packed full of action sequences.

With their characters stranded hundreds of kilometres in heavy space suits, Clooney and Bullock had to work hard to simulate moving slowly and gracefully as in space.

As a former dancer, Bullock had an advantage and nailed the abnormally slow movements, while Clooney said “it is the trickiest thing you have ever done”.

“It was absolutely stunning what she was doing,” he said of his co-star.

“Dancing did help,” said Bullock.

“We are operating at very slow speeds, and I’m a fast mover.”

Bullock said carrying her three-year-old son around on set helped in her training for the role which required her to work hard to get into top shape with daily on-set workouts.

“I wanted her to lose everything feminine or maternal about her,” she said.

Clooney’s regime was less demanding demanding, joking “I just mostly drank my way into the job”.
