William hires his childhood nanny to look after Prince George

Prince William has brought his 71-year-old childhood nanny out of retirement to care for his new son Prince George.

William and Kate have hired Jessie Webb, who cared for William and Harry when they were little, to help look after 10-week-old Prince George while they’re undertaking royal engagements.

Jessie was spotted with Kate and George earlier this week when the Duchess made a pit stop in a McDonald’s car park to breastfeed en route from Anglesey to Kensington Palace.

It’s not surprising William and Kate chose Jessie to care for their firstborn. She has been a royal nanny for decades, most recently caring for Viscount Linley’s two children Patrick, now 14, and Margarita, now 11, before retiring to her south London apartment.

“She’ll be like a safe pair of hands,” Majesty magazine editor Ingrid Seward told People magazine. “That’s preferred rather than someone new to it all, someone who’d be terrified of it all.”

Prince William: 'I'm so protective now that I'm a father'

Jessie was a great source of support for William and Harry when their parents’ marriage broke down, offering comfort and love in a very difficult time.

William has never forgotten her, inviting Jessie — who has no children of her own — to all the big events in his life including his 21st birthday party and his 2011 wedding.

Kensington Palace last night announced that William would be quitting the RAF to become a full-time royal.

JK Rowling writing new Harry Potter movie

JK Rowling writing new Harry Potter movie

JK Rowling is writing a new Harry Potter spin-off series.

Harry Potter fans rejoice! JK Rowling is writing a series of spin-off films set in her much-loved wizarding world.

The British author has announced she will pen the script for several new feature films based on one of the Harry Potter’s schoolbooks Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The movies will feature the book’s fictitious author Newt Scamander.

In a post on her Facebook page, Rowling said she agreed to try her hand at screenwriting after Warner Bros approached her with the idea of turning the story into a film.

“I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of Fantastic Beasts, realised by another writer was difficult,” Rowling wrote.

“Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood.

“As I considered Warners’ proposal, an idea took shape that I couldn’t dislodge. That is how I ended up pitching my own idea for a film to Warner Bros.”

But while the new movies will be set in Harry Potter’s magical world, the boy wizard will not feature in them.

“Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world,” she wrote.

“The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, 70 years before Harry’s gets underway.

“I always said that I would only revisit the wizarding world if I had an idea that I was really excited about and this is it.”

Kim Kardashian Hated Cruel Weight Taunts

Kim Kardashian Hated Cruel Weight Taunts

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

Kim Kardashian may be famous for her curves, but she is reportedly in no rush to get her pre-baby body back.

The reality TV star’s trainer Tracey Anderson says the new mum is focussed on motherhood right now and isn’t worried about working out.

“She’s just taking time with the baby. She’s not concerned with working out or anything,” she told New York Magazine.

“She’s amazing. So connected. I knew she was going to be a great mum when I trained her during pregnancy.

“Little North is beautiful, she’s got the most beautiful skin.”

But Kim’s relaxed attitude to getting back in shape doesn’t mean she wasn’t affected by the cruel weight taunts during her pregnancy.

“A lot of very cruel things were written about her,” Kim’s stepbrother Brody Jenner said recently.

“When you’re pregnant it should be a great stage in your life and you shouldn’t have to go to every news stand and see pictures and headlines saying: ‘Kim’s a whale.’”’

Brody was referring to an Internet image that showed pregnant Kim in a black and white dress and compared her to a killer whale surging from the sea.

“I know it upset her,” he told Now magazine. “It should have been one of the happiest times of her life and it wasn’t. People gain weight when they’re pregnant and there’s nothing wrong with that. It upset me to read some things about her.”

“For a while, Kim was all bummed out with all the ridicule she was getting about her weight during her pregnancy. It was definitely getting to her.”

But despite the backlash, Brody says Kim kept her head high and focused on her child.

“She dealt with it and she’s a strong girl, she’s getting through it and everything’s good,” he said.

Cheeky Harry accuses William of being a flirt

Cheeky Harry accuses William of being a flirt

The princes suited up and played stockbrokers for a day for charity.

Sibling rivalry was on full display as Prince William and Prince Harry suited up and played stockbrokers for a day in a charity event to raise money in memory of 9/11 attacks in New York 12 years ago.

The brothers worked the phones drumming up donations as cheeky Harry constantly ribbed new dad William over his “baby chat” and “flirting”.

The pair spent an hour negotiating deals and notched up a record $40 billion in donations, but still took time to poke fun at each other.

During one phone call, 28-year-old Harry joked that his older brother had baby on the brain, spending too much time talking about seven-week-old Prince George.

“He’s on the phone, it’s all baby chat,” Harry said.

He wasn’t far off, with the new dad giving updates on his son to traders as he chatted.

“He’s very well thanks, he’s sleeping quite well,” William said when asked about the royal baby.

The younger prince also paused to give William a hard time about chatting with a female trader.

“Stop flirting, get on with it!” Harry joked.

The pair successfully worked the phone to negotiate donations, helping to broker a $42 billion company record.

“Bloody hell, was that a billion?!” William remarked to a broker as he negotiated a deal.

“Apparently we should work here,” he said to Harry.

“I’m much better at helicopters.”

Prince Harry showed off his negotiating skills, egging on investors to up their donations.

“Are you feeling like making some money for charity today?” he asked.

“Good. Whatever you’re thinking you can double it.”

Both princes were praised for their contributions to help fundraising for charities SkillForce, of which William and patron, and WellChild, where Harry is patron.

Doting Uncle Harry gushes about Prince George’s first smile

Doting Uncle Harry gushes about George's first smile

Prince Harry at the WellChild Awards.

Prince Harry was every bit the doting uncle last night, proudly revealing that he had just seen his new nephew Prince George smile for the first time.

Speaking at the WellChild Awards, Harry’s face lit up as he spoke about George, who he had been visiting before the awards ceremony began.

“I’ve literally just seen him,” Harry said. “Normally when I see him he’s either sleeping or crying but I’ve just seen him smile. It was the first time I’ve seen him smile.”

Harry spent the evening entertaining children battling serious illnesses, showing off the same easy way with kids his mother Princess Diana was famous for.

Kneeling down to be on their level, Harry roared with laughter as he chatted to the children, even appearing to impersonate a chicken for one sick little boy.

The WellChild Awards reward sick children for their bravery and caring natures. Harry has supported the charity for years and gave a short speech at this year’s awards, praising the foundation and the children it helps.

“I’m hugely humbled to be patron of WellChild and I count myself incredibly lucky to be patron, as well as coming down here this evening,” Harry said.

“It’s always so clear for everyone to see how brave and inspirational the children are. It means so much to us, to see what you can do. It reminds us of all the things we take for granted. It puts us back in our box.”

Sonia Kruger talks designers, fashion and her new line

Sonia Kruger talks designers, fashion and her new line

There isn’t much that TV darling Sonia Kruger can’t do. Now, the former ballroom dancer turned Mornings and Big Brother host has launched herself into the world of fashion.

She’s no stranger to a serious sartorial moment. Having been dressed by some of Australia’s best designers, including J’Aton and Steven Khalil, she’s regularly asked by Mornings viewers, “What are you wearing?”

It seemed logical to take the next step, teaming with fashion tycoon Danny Avidan (designer Charlie Brown’s husband) and former Mad Cortes designer Mira Vukovic to create the Sonia Kruger Collections.

“I’ve always loved fashion,” says Sonia, 47. “I design for my girlfriends, so I really rely on them to tell me what they think. They will say if their eyeballs are burning.”

And her designs are perfect for women of all sizes. “We’ve incorporated shapes and cuts that are flattering for all women – not just size 8 models.”

Scroll down to see Sonia’s shoot with Woman’s Day!

Drawing inspiration from designer favourites Victoria Beckham and Roland Mouret, Sonia says Aussie women have two different yet equally fashionable sides.

“We have this fabulous laid-back boho chic thing, a bit like Nicole Richie and Elle Macpherson,” she says. “But we have this really sophisticated side to us, too, where we’ll look at designers like VB for something strong and sexy.”

“You learn as you get older what suits you.”

Although Sonia describes her off-duty style as “haphazard”, she’s fine-tuned her sartorial choices since entering her 40s.

“I think you learn as you get older what suits you best and what works for your body type. I’m really broad-shouldered. I remember when I was 18 it was the era of the puffy pirate shirt – thinking back, I seriously looked like a gridiron player.”

Sonia, who was hands-on in the design process, says dressing gets easier with age. “It’s easier to dress myself now because you learn how to accentuate your good parts and hide the not-so-good parts.”

A bargain hunter who favours online stores like The Iconic (theiconic.com.au) and Shopbop (shopbop.com), Sonia loves to mix splurges with more affordable pieces.

“I have a beautiful cross-body Gucci chain bag I can wear with ripped jeans and a T-shirt and feel a million bucks,” she says. “But you can also save money on accessories, with Diva and Equip putting up really affordable on-trend items.”

That’s not to say she doesn’t enjoy a fashion blowout. “I recently bought a Jimmy Choo biker bag – it was on sale and I just had to have it. And I also got a pair of beautiful Giuseppe Zanotti shoes.”

But most of all, Sonia says when it comes to fashion, it’s all down to one important thing: “Have fun with it!”

Prince William quits RAF to become ‘full-time royal’

William's guard dogs put down days after he left military base

Prince William during a shift as a RAF Search and Rescue pilot on Anglesey.

Prince William has left the armed forces to become a full-time royal.

Kensington Palace released a statement tonight confirming William will leave “operational service” in the British armed forces.

The news comes two days after the BBC reported William had completed his final shift of his current three-year tour of duty as a search and rescue pilot at RAF Valley in Anglesey, Wales.

But while William’s seven-and-a-half years in active military are coming to an end, his life is likely to become even busier with the number of royal engagements he and wife Kate carry out each year set to dramatically increase.

“He will continue to support the work of the Queen and the Royal Family through a programme of official engagements, both at home and overseas, with The Duchess of Cambridge,” the statement said.

“The Duke will work closely over the next 12 months with the Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. He will expand his work in the field of conservation, particularly in respect of endangered species.

“The Duke will continue to work with his charities on issues relating to children and young people, veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces.”

William is also considering “a number of options for public service” with a further announcement to be made at a later date.

In his three years on Anglesey, William has participated in 156 search and rescue operations, resulting in 149 people being rescued. He has completed over 1300 flying hours.

William and Kate have expressed their sadness at the prospect of leaving Anglesey but have always understood that William would have to shoulder more royal responsibility as the Queen got older.

The couple and their seven-week-old baby will now return to their two-bedroom cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace to await the completion of renovations to their new family home, the Palace’s 21-room Apartment 1A.

The million-dollar renovations are expected to be complete “in the next few weeks”.

In one of his final public appearances in Anglesey, William thanked the island’s people for being so welcoming and friendly.

“I know that I speak for Catherine when I say that I have never in my life known somewhere as beautiful and as welcoming as Anglesey,” he said.

“I know that both of us will miss it terribly when my search and rescue tour of duty comes to an end and we have to move elsewhere.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you for making my wife and me so welcome when we arrived here, as you do thousands of visitors each year.”

William also said he planned to return to the island for holidays with Prince George and any other children the couple have.

“Catherine and I look forward to returning again and again over the coming years with our family,” William said.
