Poster for Diana film erected next to tunnel where she died

Diana film poster removed from crash site

The poster for Diana next to the tunnel where the princess died.

A poster advertising new film Diana has provoked outrage after it was erected next to the tunnel where the princess died.

The 6ft billboard showing Naomi Watts in costume as the Princess of Wales appeared at the Pont de l’Alma in Paris over the weekend.

It is just metres away from the spot where Diana was tragically killed in a car crash in 1997, and overlooks the gold Flame of Liberty, which became her unofficial memorial in the days after the accident. Fans still visit the spot with flowers 16 years later.

The poster’s appearance has sparked international outrage, with one of Diana’s closest friends branding it “shameless and despicable”.

“I really don’t have any words to describe how I feel about this cynical and shameless attempt to publicise a film that should never have been made,” Rosa Monckton, one of Diana’s closest confidantes, told the MailOnline.

“To have made a film so speculative and as this is disgusting enough, but to then advertise it on the spot at which she died is despicable.

“I cannot imagine that any company could stoop so low. It is a terrible intrusion into her memory, not to mention the lives of her sons, whose feelings are often forgotten in these stories. I would expect them to take it down right away.”

Diana and her lover Dodi Fayed were killed when the car they were travelling in crashed into a pillar in the tunnel in the early hours of August 31, 1997.

Her driver Henri Paul was drunk and attempting to outrun the paparazzi.

The film Diana opens in Paris this weekend and in Sydney next week. The critics have not been kind so far, branding it historically inaccurate, overly-dramatic and poorly-acted.

Natalie Portman: I didn’t think mothers worked!

Natalie Portman: I didn’t think mothers worked!

Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman has admitted she overlooked the most important and hardest role of her life – being a mother.

The busy Black Swan actress, who started dancing at 4, scored her first movie role at 13 and completed a Harvard psychology degree while working as an actress at 23, says the hardest job in the world is being a mother.

Natalie, 32, had her first child, Aleph, to now-husband, ballet dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied in 2011. She spoke to ELLE UK about how motherhood has been her most challenging role thus far.

“I love being a mum, but it’s much more intensive work than being an actress – going to work feels like you’ve got a day off,” she said.

“Not that I want a day off from being a mum, it’s just perhaps I had this impression before that mums don’t work. But they work more than anyone,” the star elaborated.

As the expression goes, you should walk a mile in someone else’s shoes before casting judgement, and now the Israeli-born actress has put on her Mum shoes, she’s singing a totally different tune.

She’s currently promoting Thor sequel The Dark World, where she stars opposite Aussie Chris Hemsworth. The movie is set for release in Australia on October 31.

Duchess of York hints at remarrying Prince Andrew

Duchess of York hints at remarrying Prince Andrew

The Duchess of York has fuelled speculation that she and her ex-husband Prince Andrew are back together, saying: “He is still my handsome prince.”

The 53-year-old, who divorced Andrew after 10 years of marriage in 1996, refused to deny rumours that the pair are back together and hinted that the pair would remarry.

“He’ll always be my handsome prince,” she told the UK’s Daily Telegraph at the Bath Children’s Literature Festival.

“It’s really lovely that we are still a family and the story has a happy ending all the time.

“In our everyday, we really respect each other and we honour each other and it’s just lovely to have that sense of integrity, to [do] what we believe is right…And that’s the way we are.”

Last month a mutual friend of the couple revealed it was “only a matter of time” before the pair tied the knot again.

Although a royal spokesman denied the rumour, Fergie’s latest comments have again raised speculation they are indeed an item.

The pair, who both live at the Royal Lodge, the Queen’s former home in Berkshire, have always maintained there was no real reason behind their divorce.

“There was no reason for Andrew and I to get divorced; there wasn’t another person in our lives to go to,” Fergie said back in 1999.

“We got divorced because I had to go out to work and Andrew and I believed it wasn’t right for me to be commercial while I was still in the royal family.”

Andrew hasn’t ruled out remarrying either, talking about the possibility in the past. “Do we have to be married?’ he said during a 2009 interview.

“Well, let’s put it another way, I can neither confirm nor deny the possibility. We have two great children. We still look after them.”

Since the couple split they have both been linked to other people, but neither has found lasting love.

It appears even the Queen is on board with the couple’s reconciliation.

While the duchess hasn’t been invited to any major royal events, including the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee or the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, she was invited to spend time with the Queen at Balmoral last month with daughters Beatrice, 25, and Eugenie, 23.

Royal watchers have called this meeting significant as Fergie hasn’t been invited to the Queen’s holiday residence since her divorce.

Before…and after…they broke bad

They’re now recognised as the stars of Breaking Bad, whose finale earlier this week confirmed its status as one of the greatest TV show ever made.

But before the dark crime drama electrified blogs, newspaper columns and water-cooler conversations everywhere, just what were its stars doing?

And now it’s been put to rest after five thrilling seasons, what will its cast and creator do next?

Bryan Cranston

Bryan Cranston starred as Walter White, the meek-and-mild chemistry teacher who became a methamphetamine mastermind after he was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

Cranston previously starred as harried dad Hal in TV sitcom Malcolm in the Middle and since Breaking Bad, he contributed a supporting performance in Argo, which won Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards.

He’ll next be seen in a biopic about blacklisted Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.

Vince Gilligan

The big question was what will Breaking Bad’s creator do next?

The writer-director-producer, who scripted the Drew Barrymore film Home Fries as his Hollywood calling card, cut his teeth on The X-Files and its spin-off The Lone Gunmen.

Now the hottest ticket in Hollywood is following up Breaking Bad with… Better Call Saul, a comic-spin off centred on the show’s sleazy lawyer, Saul Goodman, played by Bob Odenkirk.

Anna Gunn

Skyler White, Walt’s strong, determined and divisive wife, was played by Anna Gunn.

Like her on-screen husband, she also appeared in Seinfeld, as well as in ER, Boston Legal, Six Feet Under, Law & Order, and played pivotal roles in Deadwood and legal television drama The Practice.

The mother-of-two’s movie experiences include Enemy Of The State, Without Evidence and Red State.

Anna’s still to announce her next project.

RJ Mitte

In real life, RJ Mitte has a mild form of cerebral palsy like his character, Walter White, Jnr (aka Flynn).

Breaking Bad was the 21-year-old actor’s first big television role, having only previously worked on Hannah Montana.

Mitte saw Breaking Bad as an opportunity to raise awareness of cerebral palsy through acting.

The youngster’s next step is an action movie called The Devil’s Ink.

Giancarlo Esposito

Giancarlo Esposito played drug kingpin – and friendly fried-chicken franchise owner – Gus Fring.

Esposito is a 55-year-old actor who actually hails from Copenhagen, Denmark. He began his career on Broadway at the age of eight.

Esposito has starred in Malcolm X, Derailed, Last Holiday and Rabbit Hole with Nicole Kidman.

Since Breaking Bad, he has taken a lead baddie role in sci-fi TV hit Revolution.

Dean Norris

Dean Norris plays hard-faced Hank Schrader, Walt’s brother-in-law and DEA agent nemesis.

A Harvard graduate and father-of-five, Norris is a seasoned actor who has appeared in The West Wing, Married with Children, NYPD Blue,The Terminator and its sequel, Gattaca, Little Miss Sunshine, Lethal Weapon and Total Recall.

He most recently took the lead role in the TV hit Under The Dome.

Betsy Brandt

Betsy plays Hank’s wife, the self-absorbed Marie Schrader.

Before the Breaking Bad phenomenon, the mother-of-two had guest roles in ,Private Practice, Boston legal, CSI, NCIS, ER, Without A Trace and Judging Amy.

Brandt has already moved onto her next project, playing Michael J. Fox’s wife in his new sitcom The Michael J. Fox Show.

Aaron Paul

Aaron Paul played Jesse Pinkman, the former student of Walter White who becomes his meth-making protégé.

He appeared as a contestant on The Price Is Right, in music videos like Korn’s Thoughtless and in TV commercials for Juicy Fruit and Vanilla Coke, before getting acting work in CSI, Big Love, ER, Bones and The X-Files.

Paul has a series of movies lined up, including the video-game adaptation Need For Speed.

Sensational Sentosa

Women are the breadwinners in modern day families

Don’t have the money for Disneyland? Don’t worry, because the family fun is just as intense on Sentosa Island in Singapore – and it’s a lot lighter on the purse. Check out these adventures, all within a free bus ride of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort.

With wave machines, downhill toboggans and Universal Studios, Sentosa Island seems a world removed from it’s former nickname, the ‘Island of the dead’. Families and honeymooners flock year round to Singapore’s playground, which never sees a winter thanks to it’s proximity to the equator.

Lying just half a kilometer off the mainland, Sentosa, which is almost completely covered by rainforest, is a contradiction to the city hustle and bustle that dwarfs it, just across the water. Getting there is best tackled by taxi from Changi Airport. It’s a 30 minute ride, including stoppages for tolls.

The 5km-squared island boasts 8 hotels and resorts, but there’s only one you won’t want to leave, the Shangri-la’s Rasa Sentosa, Singapore’s only beachside resort. Sentosa, means ‘peace and tranquility’ – and there’s plenty of it – but equally, if you want to show the kids a fun time then book no further.

Spin on a Segway

Move over “Mall Cop”, the Segways have arrived. There’s no better way to start your island holiday than on a guided Gogreen Segway Eco Adventure tour. Better still, the rule of thumb is if you can reach the handlebars, you can jump aboard – and at 15 dollars a pop, why wouldn’t you?

Twirl on a Trapeze

Scared of heights? No problems, there’s a giant net to catch you on the Flying Trapeze, situated right on the famous man-made Siloso Beach. Soar above the crowds, improve your strength and co-ordination and conquer your fears. Don’t let age hold you back.

Sprint down the Skyline Luge

Discover your inner “Mark Webber” on these part go-kart, part toboggans. With two jungle trails to choose from, powered by gravity alone, once is never enough down the 700 metre-long snaking race-tracks, complete with hairpin bends. A chairlift greets you at the checkered flag to take both you and your machine back to the top of the hill.

Whoop it up at Universal

From dueling roller coasters to miniature Ferris wheels, Universal Studios Singapore is the destination on Sentosa Island. Entry fees average 58 dollars for adults and 42 dollars for nippers, but the only expense after this is food. The giant fun factory features over 22 rides and attractions, but ring in advance to see if all are operating. Pedestrian traffic is lightest on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Shoot the Surf

If you’ve never seen a man-made wave, drop into Wave House just to experience the awesomeness. Using body boards and flow boards, thrill seekers choose either the flowrider or flowbarrel “waves” and it doesn’t take long to work out if you’re a slasher or a crasher. Kids are welcome, but must be taller than 107 centimetres.

Where To Stay

For a tailor-made family holiday, don’t look further than Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort. From it’s postcard-perfect pool deck, featuring kids water park, to double story indoor tree house and children’s smorgasbord (next to the internationally influenced adult spread), you’ll find it hard to leave the resort at all. The “Rasa” oozes luxury but the 5 star experience is surprisingly fair on the budget.

Tara Moss tackles Jordan with toddler in tow!

Tara Moss tackles Jordan with toddler in tow!

Jordan is a country for adventurers and romantics, perfect for author Tara Moss and her husband Berndt Sellheim. But they decided to bring along their two-year-old daughter Sapphira, and discovered an unlikely, but surprisingly perfect, holiday with a toddler.

A visit to Jordan is filled with memorable moments, flying in jeeps over the dunes of Wadi Rum where Lawrence Of Arabia was filmed, riding on camels with Bedouins through the desert, enjoying incredible spreads of delicious local cuisine and floating in the Dead Sea … it’s a country that must be experienced. And we did it with our two year old.

We’ve travelled as a family since Sapphira was three months old, but we were surprised at how welcoming Jordanians are to families and children. Family life is a strong feature in their culture so it made total sense. Nearly every cafe offered Sapphira a little treat, a cuddle or a game, and just walking through the streets in Madaba a woman placed her hand on her head and uttered a quick prayer, which our guide explained was for safety and a good life.

But despite being family friendly, there were few Parent Rooms, so some creative improvisation was definitely needed for a child in nappies. And remember sanitation standards are different in some areas – so keep hand sanitiser and bottled water handy!

Getting there

Royal Jordanian, Emirates, Etihad. There are no direct flights from Australia to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, the main international airport in Jordan.

Visas

Visas are obtainable on arrival, but do make sure you have six months validity on your passport and carry it with you in case you encounter checkpoints or passport checks on your travels.

Best time to visit

This small country has a huge range of climates. The best time of the year to visit is March to May when spring wildflowers are in bloom, and September to November when the autumn weather is mild.

What to see

Jordan is full of places to amaze, not just visually, but also historically. Possibly the most moving and majestic archaeological site is Petra’s Siq (gorge), and while you’re there make sure you also visit the mammoth rock formation that is the Treasury, featured in Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade.

One experience you cannot miss is a camel ride through Wadi Rum (Sapphira loved this – she thoughts the camels were big dogs!), and a float and mud wrap in the Dead Sea. But what surprised us most was the incredibly rich underwater world of the Red Sea where coral and fish abound.

Electricity voltage

Bring a multi-purpose adaptor as Jordan’s electricity supply is 220V, 50AC. Sockets are generally of the two-pronged European variety.

Currency

In Jordan, the local currency is the dinar. 1JOD equals about $AU1.49. While Jordan isn’t the cheapest country to travel, you can still manage it if you spend wisely.

Princess Diana’s marriage advice William and Kate from beyond the grave

William, Kate and baby George and William's late mother Princess Diana.

William, Kate and George and William's late mother Diana, Princess of Wales.

Princess Diana has given marriage advice to her son Prince William from beyond the grave in a series of tapes apparently recorded before she died.

US magazine Globe reported the existence of the mysterious tapes on the weekend.

The publication claims Diana made the recordings for William shortly before she died in 1997 because she feared for her life.

In one audio clip, “Diana” urges William, “Cherish your children for me. Let them know I’ll love them and watch over them,” while in another she imagines his wife would be, “beautiful, smart and independent”.

“I know I’d adore you and we’d be fast friends,” the voice says of Kate. “You’d have to be someone truly special. If you weren’t, you wouldn’t be William’s wife.”

The woman goes on to warn Kate about the pressures of public life and that being a future queen makes marriage harder.

Kensington Palace has refused to comment on the tapes, but one of Diana’s friends yesterday told The Mail on Sunday that the sentiments expressed in the recordings were “uncannily” like things Diana had told friends in the months before her death.

“Oh my God, I know her choice of words, the way she would say things and this sounds exactly like her,” businesswoman Lana Marks, who designed handbags for the princess, said.

“I knew Diana very well during the last 18 months of her life. Diana discussed with me in great detail what she wanted for William in terms of a wife, children — what she wanted for his future.

“When I hear the contents of the tape, they echo what she discussed with me in great detail. It is uncanny.”
