Nicole under fire as Keith tells: You’re still perfect

Nicole under fire as Keith tells: You're still perfect

With Nic copping cosmetic surgery insults, Keith springs to her defence – he loves her natural beauty.

In true country music fashion, Keith Urban is standing by his woman after Nicole Kidman was cruelly blasted last week for returning to cosmetic surgery.

In the wake of her appearance at a Hollywood function celebrating women, the 46-year-old actress was labelled “more plastic than a Barbie” by online commentators, who were appalled by her seemingly frozen forehead.

Other trolls chimed in with harsh comments like “Stop with the fillers and Botox for the love of God”, “She looks like a prop from a celebrity wax museum” and “She looks awful – I didn’t even recognise her as Nicole Kidman.”

Our sources say this latest crisis has prodded the couple to a new realisation. While Keith has been reassuring Nicole he loves her no matter what, he’s also been telling her it’s time to deal with her insecurities so she can finally embrace her natural self.

Read more about Nicole’s new look and Keith’ concerns in this week’s issue of Woman’s Day, on sale Monday, October 14, 2013.

27 Dresses? Try 100s… Unworn By Aussie Women!

27 Dresses? Try 100s… Unworn By Aussie Women!

Is your wardrobe bulging with clothes you haven’t worn but still you can’t find anything to wear? Do you look at all those dresses and tops and jackets and think, well…what wasI thinking? Have you been telling porkies to hide the amount you’ve really spent on your passion for fashion?

If the answers are yes, yes and yes… you can at least take heart that you’re not alone.

Pure Profile conducted a case study on behalf of AHM Fashion Exchange to look at the shopping habits of over 1250 Australian women aged between 18 and 65 and they found that that the average woman has an incredible100 itemshanging in her wardrobe that have never been worn.

“It’s not unusual for people to have clothes in their wardrobes they don’t wear – even with tags still on them – but over 100 items as the average is astounding,” says Paula Joye, style guru and AHM Fashion Exchange events advocate.

“If you work out how much money you spend on clothes you haven’t worn it’s frightening.”

Alesha Dettmer, 31, a successful Sydney businesswoman, says she can’t count the clothes she has in her wardrobe, but can account for not wearing a lot of them.

“I have too many clothes to think about or even count. It’s the equivalent of an entire walk-in robe, two chests of draws, plus another two-door built in,” she says.

“I have not worn all of them, some items I have not have worn for over 18 months.”

The average Australian has 104 items in their wardrobe that they never wear, yet a whopping 82 per cent still can’t find something to put on each day.

Almost half of women lie about how much they spend on clothing, which may explain why almost 62 per cent of the population also return their clothes straight after buying them, with buyer’s guilt being a major contributor.

“Yes, I’ve lied about the amount I spend on clothing. I never used to but once you’re married it all changes,” Alesha jokingly admits.

Despite the stereotype of woman re-mortgaging their homes for a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes, you may be surprised to know that men have just as many unworn items of clothing, and are spending more on new clothes each month.

While having too many clothes might clutter your wardrobe and prevent you from wearing your entire collection, it appears shoes are getting overlooked, too.

Research indicates that most Australians have 10 pairs of boots and shoes that they don’t wear and with each item costing an average of $70 each, that’s $700 worth of clean-soled shoes filling our cramped wardrobes.

Even more shockingly, some big-spending Aussies have admitted to having one item of clothing valued up to $1000 that they’ve never even worn.

Before you hit the panic button and head home to de-clutter, consider swapping items you no longer wear instead of hauling them off and repeating the process.

AHM Fashion Exchange is launching a series of clothes exchange days across the nation where you can swap your unworn items for someone else’s, saving yourself money and getting a new wardrobe that you might actually wear.

“The AHM Fashion Exchange events are a great way of re-purposing fashion,” says Paula Joye. “ You exchange unworn items from your wardrobe for pieces you like in another. It’s like raiding your best friend’s wardrobe. Waste less, shop more and look fabulous – all for free.”

Shoppers bring six items of pre-loved clothing in exchange for six tokens that they can then use to purchase other items suiting their current look and style.

AHM Fashion Exchange events kick off in Sydney on Saturday 26 October, followed by Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide.

Kylie Minogue ‘devastated’ by split from Andres Velencosco after five years

Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue is reportedly “devastated” after ending her five-year romance with Spanish model Andres Velencoso.

The singer’s spokesperson confirmed the relationship was over yesterday, saying Kylie, 45, and Andres, 35, were still friends and insisting no one else was involved in the split.

Friends say Kylie was the one who called time on the romance after the pressures of her work schedule became “unbearable”.

Kylie is currently working on her 12th studio album and sitting on the judging panel of the UK’s version of The Voice.

“Kylie and Andres haven’t been spending much time together because she’s been holed up in the studio in LA working on her new album,” an insider told the UK’s Daily Mail.

“He’s also been trying to carve out an acting career for himself. When she signed up for The Voice they knew they couldn’t cope with the long distance pressures the job would put on them.

“This is a big blow for her.”

The split comes just 12 months after Kylie told a magazine Andres was “the one”.

The couple met on the set of an advertisement for Kylie’s perfume range in 2008 and have been virtually inseparable since.

William and Kate choose school friends over royalty for George’s godparents

Prince George's Godparents announced

Kate and William will appear together at a charity gala next month.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have once again broken with tradition to reward loyalty over royalty in the selection of their son Prince George’s godparents.

While the godparents of royal baby’s are usually fellow princes or princesses, the modern royal couple have selected their school and university friends on whom to bestow the honour, the Sunday Times reports.

Prince William’s school chum financier Fergus Boyd, and Kate’s college pal Emilia d’Erlanger will serve alongside Hugh van Cutsem, one of Wills’ oldest friends, as half of baby George’s predicted six godparents.

Mr Boyd, 31, flatted with Kate and William in their second year at St Andrew’s college and studied art history with Kate, and Ms d’Erlanger is an old friend of William from his Eton days as well as s school friend of Kate.

Hugh van Cutsem is another friend of William’s from Eton and has close links to the royals, with William serving as an usher at his old friend’s wedding, and Hugh’s daughter playing flower girl at the 2011 royal wedding.

Prince William’s godparents were quite a contrasting group to those chosen for his son. They were former King Constantine of Greece, Princess Alexandra, the Honourable Lady Ogilvy, the Duchess of Westminster, Lady Susan Hussey, Lord Romsey and Sir Lauren van der Post.

Aside from the surprise appointments, the royal couple are already breaking with tradition in their venue choice for the christening, hosting the ceremony at the Chapel in St James’s Palace rather than at Buckingham Palace.

The christening will take place on October 23 and will be an intimate family affair with a guest list of only 60.

I carried my baby to term, knowing she’d die at birth

I carried my baby to term, knowing she'd die at birth

Stephanie Azri was nearly five months pregnant and looking forward to finding out if she was having a boy or a girl when her doctor delivered devastating news: the baby growing inside her was fatally ill, and would never live outside her womb.

She had gone to her 20-week scan excited about discovering the sex of her third child but was left reeling by her daughter’s fatal prognosis.

“I truly had no idea anything would be wrong, and I was left with a devil of a decision,” Stephanie says.

“I was given 48 hours to terminate the pregnancy, or continue to full-term knowing my baby would die at birth.

“I couldn’t comprehend either situation, but knew I didn’t have time to make a rational choice about termination, so I elected to continue with the pregnancy.”

Stephanie’s baby girl had pulmonary hypoplasia, meaning her lungs weren’t forming correctly.

Weeks later, Stephanie went into labour and headed straight to her GP, who dismissed her contractions and sent her home.

What followed compounded an already tragic situation: Stephanie gave birth at home, alone, with her two young children by her side.

“My little girl, Talina Gabrielle, died just a few hours later in my arms, and my world shattered,” she said.

Since her heartbreaking loss, Stephanie has devoted her life to helping out others who receive a terminal pregnancy diagnosis.

“After Talina died, I felt truly alone,” she says. “There was no support for me, no name for my experience, I was just supposed to get on with it.”

Stephanie was already a social worker and since Talina’s death she has devoted herself to researching fatal diagnosis in pregnancy, including a nearly completed PhD on the subject.

“Women given a choice of terminating their baby, or having a baby die in their aims are given the worst choice of their lives,” she says.

“Both choices are right, both are wrong, both are horrible.”

Part of Stephanie’s journey has been establishing Prenatal Diagnosis Support Australia, a website offering free advice and support for those trying to cope with a fatal diagnosis.

“I needed to give myself a sense of purpose, and I realised I wasn’t the only mother to have experience this kind of loss,” Stephanie says.

“Women and their partners are faced with a wretched decision, and they need to realise while they don’t have a lot of time to decide, there is support for whatever path they make take.”

PDS Australia helps families with the emotional and practical: photographers, hand and footprint moulds, counselling services and heartbreaking funeral arrangements.

“I want women to be supported at this time of their life, to know life will get better again. I want them to know their feelings are valid.”

Stephanie went on to have three more children — all sons.

“There is definitely part of me that believes Talina never wanted to be replaced, which is why I never had another daughter after her death,” Stephanie says.

“She may have only lived for a few hours, but she has never been forgotten. Her baby photo is on the wall with my other five children, and we visit her gravesite regularly.

“At her funeral I buried her with a necklace on, and I have worn a matching one ever since. It’s a little part of her that I carry with me every day.”

If you, or someone you know has been diagnosed with a terminal pregnancy, visit Prenatal Diagnosis Support Australia for support and information.

Victoria’s Secret models aren’t as confident as you think

Victoria’s Secret models aren’t as confident as you think

Victoria’s Secret angel Cameron Russell has spoken out about society’s unrealistic pressure to be beautiful, discouraging women from becoming models and declaring “Victoria’s Secret models are the most insecure in the world”.

The 26-year-old American spoke at a TEDx seminar back in January but the full impact of her honest and eye-opening speech is only now gaining momentum, with over 2.4 million people watching her presentation on the TEDx site and a further 1.5 million tuning into the YouTube version.

Despite having worked for the likes of Armani, Vogue and Calvin Klein, Cameron has spoken out about society’s obsession with a certain body type and look and says the perceived ideal certainly doesn’t guarantee you happiness.

“I’ve received all of these benefits from a deck stacked in my favour and it doesn’t always make me happy,” she said.

The 178cm model begins her speech with a demonstration of how easy it is to judge based on superficial information. She walks on stage in heels and a short black dress before changing into a long, loose skirt, flats and a sweater and stating, “Image is powerful but also, image is superficial.

“I just totally transformed what you thought of me in six seconds.”

Russell structured her talk by answering some commonly asked questions about why and how she became a model and was quick to dismiss the hype.

“The real way I became a model is that I won a genetic lottery,” she explained.

“[Models] say, ‘It’s really amazing to travel. And it’s amazing to get to work with creative, inspired, passionate people,’ and those things are true, but it’s only one half of the story because there are things that we never say on camera.”

“The thing that I have never said on camera is, I am insecure. And I am insecure because I have to think about what I look like every day.”

On the subject of young girls approaching her and asking if they could be a model too, Cameron’s response to them is frank.

“Why? You could be anything?” she tells them.

“If you ever are wondering ‘If I have thinner thighs or shinier hair, will I be happier?’ You just need to meet a group of models because they have the thinnest thighs and shiniest hair, and the coolest clothes, and they are the most physically insecure women, probably, on the entire planet.”

Not happy just to speak about the world of beauty, Russell went on to address the broader problem of race and gender discrimination.

“I get free things because of how I look, not who I am, and there are people paying costs for how they look and not who they are.”

Perhaps a change of career is on the cards for this eloquent, bold model. She displayed an early interest in politics and a meeting at age 10 with former American President Bill Clinton could be a sign of things to come.
