Kate and Wills take the bus to Remembrance Day

Royals and public transport haven't always gone hand in hand, but the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge fit right in taking a local bus route.

A classic red double-decker bus picked up Kate and William from their Kensington Palace home, taking them on a five-minute journey to their local tube stop to meet military personel and volunteers selling poppies.

The royals left baby Prince George at home with a nanny, saying that he had been “behaving himself this morning”.

William and Catherine planning return to Anglesey

William and Catherine planning return to “beloved” Anglesey

They only left a month ago, but royal insiders say Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge are already missing the quiet country life they led in Anglesey.

The couple are said to be planning a return to their beloved hideaway and have been making discreet inquiries about visiting the secluded farmhouse they rented during William’s three-year search and rescue posting at the nearby RAF base.

William gave up his role as a helicopter pilot to begin duties as a full-time royal not long after the birth of his first child, Prince George.

William and Catherine are currently preparing to move into Princess Margaret’s former home at Kensington Palace, which recently underwent a $1.9m renovation, but they continue to have a strong love for the place they called home together before they wed.

The five-bedroom farmhouse, which has its own private beach, is affectionately referred to as “their beloved Anglesey” by William’s private secretary, Miguel Head.

“After the relative freedom of living pretty undisturbed as a couple in Wales, William dislikes the proximity of so many neighbours at Kensington Palace,” a source told the UK’s Daily Mail.

“A bolthole in a place they know so well has definite appeal.”

Royal biographer Michael Thornton, who lives in Anglesey, said there’s speculation in the town that William and Catherine could be back soon.

“Rumours are flying about the possibility of the Cambridges acquiring a home on the island,” he said.

“I have heard they are interested in buying the farmhouse.”

Says a friend: “Royals rarely buy properties but they could rent again.”

“They pick out their own clothes every single day. They won’t listen. I just provide the clothing and a lot of those dresses they wear are from my childhood or my niece’s young childhood,” their mum told People.

“We tell them nothing. We just give them the temperature outside and if they don’t pick enough clothing, then we say, “You need leggings or pants. You need to add something so you’ll be warm enough.” That’s all they would listen to.”

Debenhams has rolled out “real size” mannequins in all 170 of its stores after a successful trial in its flagship London store in 2010.

The curvaceous figurines will model the store’s latest fashions alongside a diminished number of more traditional size 10 models.

“The average British woman is a size 16, but the high street has been showing them clothing on a mannequin that is three sizes smaller, until now,” Debenhams director Ed Watson said.

“Having working on this project for three years, we hope that it will help people in some small way to feel comfortable about their bodies and, crucially, that other retailers will follow.”

ADHD diagnosis ‘harmful to kids’

A study by Australia’s Bond University in conjunction with scientists in the Netherlands found that there was a significant risk of “over-diagnosis” and therefore over-medication.

Researchers said the wider classification of symptoms for ADHD – attention deficit hyperactive disorder – in the psychiatric manual used in the profession has led to a steep rise in diagnosis and prescriptions for medication.

This “over-diagnosis” has a duel effect, with some children taking medication unnecessarily while stretched resources see others who really need help unable to access it.

In the past few years, ADHD has grown to include a collection of behavioural problems linked to poor attention span, restlessness, impulsiveness and hyperactivity.

This broadening of symptoms has led to a 73 per cent increase in ADHD medication prescriptions in Australia between 2000 and 2011.

This is an alarming statistic as the medications can cause weight loss, liver toxicity and suicidal thoughts and can ever suppress puberty.

But lead researcher Dr Rae Thomas says the implications of over-diagnosis are even more wide-ranging.

She says having a “diagnostic label” means teachers and parents have low academic expectations of affected children, potentially creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Dr Thomas also says over-diagnosis also risks the entire condition, which is real and can be very serious, being viewed with scepticism.

“Severe cases of ADHD are obvious, but in mild and moderate cases – which constitute the bulk of all ADHD diagnoses – subjective opinions of clinicians differ,” Dr Thomas says.

“The broadening of the diagnostic criteria is likely to increase what is already a significant concern about over-diagnosis.

“It risks resulting in a diagnosis of ADHD being regarded with scepticism to the harm of those with severe problems who unquestionably need sensitive, skilled specialist help and support.”
