ONJ’s daughter Chloe reveals her drug nightmare

ONJ's daughter Chloe reveals her drug nightmare

Olivia Newton-John’s daughter Chloe Lattanzi has broken her silence and revealed all about her horrific eating disorder and destructive drug addiction.

The 27-year-old musician and daughter of Australia’s sweetheart andGreasesuperstar has been pictured in the headlines over the years looking skeletal thin, as rumours ran rampant about her battle with anorexia and her party-girl antics.

Fresh out of a seven-month stint in rehab, the young aspiring singer has given a tell-all interview to UK’sDaily Mail, revealing the true extent of her drug and food battle, her relationship with her squeaky-clean celebrity mother, her struggle with anxiety and the perils of fame.

“Fame totally messes you up. I don’t blame my mother for my problems, but I would never want to be famous or raise a child of my own around the cult of celebrity. It ruins lives,” says Chloe.

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it is that you can’t be fragile in this business or you end up like Lindsay Lohan.

“That’s not meant as an insult. I know she – and a lot of celebrities and celebrities’ kids – are struggling with demons and addictions, just like me, and not all of them are brave enough to address them. It’s disturbing that everyone wants to be famous these days. Our culture is sick.”

Chloe’s relationship with her mother has been tumultuous, with accusations flying that Olivia was burying her head in the sand and failing to recognise her daughter’s pleas for help.

“Eventually she faced up to it and sent me to a treatment centre for my eating disorder when I was 18,” Chloe said.

“It didn’t help at all. Putting people with eating disorders together is the worst thing you can do. It creates competition. I left and slowly got better on my own. But then I replaced one addiction with another.”

Growing up under the celebrity shadow of her sweet-as-pie mother certainly didn’t help the aspiring actress with her anxiety; feeling lumped with an insurmountable amount of pressure to live up to her mother’s fame.

“I watchedGreasefor the first time when I was 8 and I just remember saying, ‘Wow, that’s my mum!’” Chloe says.

“She was so pretty and I was just in awe of how great she was in that movie. It became obvious to me why everyone loved her so much – she was so lovely and perfect for the role of the heroine, Sandy.

“I even memorised some of the lines from Sandy’s scenes, which always gave my mum a good laugh.”

But her admiration quickly turned to turmoil when she started to realise the cost of her mother’s high-profile lifestyle.

“Later I would become sickened by the phoniness all around. I was aware my mother was different and resented people who tried to take advantage of her,” Chloe says.

“Then, when I got my record deal, I felt overwhelmed at being observed all the time.

“That, combined with a predisposition for depression and anxiety, was a recipe for disaster.”

At the worst of her eating disorder, the teen star weighed a meagre 42kg.

“My eating disorder started when I was 15 and carried on until my early 20s. I had anxiety attacks and needed to find a way of feeling in control of something. Food was the one thing I could be in control of,” Chloe says.

It wasn’t until the budding singer began taking drugs, spending $140 a day on cocaine and washing it down with a bottle of vodka, that her life began spiralling out of control.

“I never developed any tools for coping with my emotions. The only way I knew how to deal with emotional stress was through self-harm. That’s why I started doing drugs and drinking,” she says.

“The first time I tried cocaine I felt such relief. It took my anxiety away.

“I got to the stage where the first thing I did each morning was to do cocaine. I was drinking and partying and going crazy.”

Chloe hid her drug and eating disorder from parents for a long time but at the height of it, was high in front of them. Taking Xanax, along with the other cocktails of drugs, bingeing for three days with no sleep and blacking out, she finally crashed and hit rock bottom in September last year and turned to her mother for the help she needed.

“After a year of bottled-up pain, I just released my demons and one day told my mum everything I was going through. For hours I just cried in Mum’s arms and told her over and over, ‘I can’t take this anymore. I can’t stand living in this pain.’ I told her how out of control my drug and alcohol addictions had become,” Chloe says.

“Despite how painful the circumstances were, I felt so lucky to have someone like my mum with me to lean on and cry with.

“The next morning, she put me in the car and drove me to rehab. On the ride over I was shaking and sobbing, but Mum held my hand, put on a brave face and assured me everything was going to be all right. She said she was proud of me and at that time that’s really all I needed to hear.”

Camilla: Charles is ‘not one for chilling’

Prince Charles and Camilla in the current issue of Country Life on which Charles was guest editor.

In a candid interview at an engagement during the couple’s current tour of south-west India, Camilla revealed that Prince Charles could afford to “chill out” more.

The Duchess exposed Charles as a workaholic, and fretted she may struggled to compete for his attention as he reaches his milestone birthday, as the longest is “obsessed” with work.

“I am hopping up and down and saying, ‘Darling do you think we could have a bit of, you know, peace and quiet, enjoy ourselves together?” she said.

“But he always has to finish something. He is so in the zone, working, working, working.”

Camilla also revealed her husband was particularly difficult to buy for. “He is a man!” she said. “They are hopeless!”.

“He likes to make a list of things that he wants so you get it exactly right. I find this time of year impossible as it’s his birthday and then it’s Christmas, so you have got two in a row. Everybody else is easy but he is not.”

Despite the difficulty, Camilla revealed she has in fact found the perfect gift for the Prince.

“He collects a lot of things and it is something special – china – that I have found,” she said.

“It’s what he really likes. And I know he will be happy with it.”

The couple were taking a day off from their busy touring schedule before the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Sri Lanka, which Prince Charles will open on behalf of his mother the Queen.

Camilla insisted she would take the day to “chill out completely”, but when pressed on whether the Prince would be relaxing by her side, she expressed her doubts.

“I shall do my best,” she said.

“If there’s a little hint of sun I might just persuade him to go for a walk or sit outside. He loves walking, so that might do it.

“We see the sun all the time but we never get the chance to just go and sit in it. So that would be bliss. So maybe I will persuade him.

“But no, my husband is not one for chilling.”

How to get kids to eat greens and tofu

Think tofu is for hippies? I have to admit; I’m a bit of an urban hippy at heart but even for me, tofu is usually a shocker in the taste department, cardboard being a commonly used adjective used when reviewing its flavour.

But this is about to change that perception because cheesy tofu bites are a taste sensation, perfect for kids! Though I’d put a wager on, that even the toughest cowboys would give these tofu bites a go; so I’m sure your kids will love them too.

By the way, if you have heard eating a lot of soya produce is not good, you’re right, it isn’t, but having organic tofu once a week is fantastic for a few reasons. It’s cheap, it’s healthy and a great source of protein.

Episode Tips:

Tackling green vegetables at dinnertime

Who loves dealing with the green veggie drama every night? Easy answer – no one! But never fear, I have a winner, which will get the green part of your kid’s dinner resolved before dinner even begins.

Kids love frozen things and, as it turns out, kids love frozen peas. So when they come home from school, fill a cup with frozen peas and send them outside to enjoy. You’ll most likely find them in a trance with the sun shinning on their upturned faces, while popping each tiny frozen globe into their warm mouths to melt on their tongues. They love it.

Orange Mash-for whenever you cook mashed potato

Add sweet potatoes to the mash. White potatoes are acidic and sweet potatoes (Kumara) are alkalizing. If you mix them together it makes for a much healthier mash, that’s also sweet and yummy which the kids will love.

Serving Kids

Always serve a child’s meal on a massive plate – the biggest you can find. It’s a real shame for the washer-uppera (me!), but kids eat with their eyes and the meal size will look manageable for them. Using a small plate makes the meal look large and overwhelming. For us mummies, perhaps the smallest plate is not such a bad idea?

School Lunches

Use the leftover Cheesy Tofu Bites for the school lunches the following day. The cheesy tofu bites taste even cheesier when they are served cold.

Extra Meals

Always think to yourself when you are cooking a meal, how can I use this for a school lunch, a breakfast or is this meal suitable for storing leftovers in the freezer for another meal?

A good breakfast is the key to learning. Use the left over orange mash, warm it up and pop a fried, sunny side up egg on top, sprinkle with mature grated cheese and voilà, a breakfast for champions!

A team of ageing specialists and artists have spent weeks answering a question no one has ever asked – what will the Duchess of Cambridge look like as a pensioner?

As Prince Charles turns 65, the team funded by VoucherCodesPro.co.uk imagined what Kate, William and Harry will look like at the same age.

If the predictions come true, Kate will swap her long glossy brunette locks for a short silver ‘do, while William will lose most of his hair altogether.

Harry will fare slightly better in the hair stakes, keeping most of his, although it will turn grey too.
