‘All women secretly love doing the ironing’

Allsop, the star of Homemade Home and Location Location Location, has caused controversy by insisting women love household chores and need them to “stay sane”, no matter how much they complain about them.

“I’m not doing the ironing because I have to, I find it immensely therapeutic,” Allsop told UK newspaper the Western Daily Press.

“I’m absolutely convinced that those repetitive tasks that one does every day, organising and regularising one’s home, and keeping it tidy is enormously therapeutic.

“I know it is for me, and I have many, many working mum friends who feel the same. That to know that their child is going to school with clean hair, clean teeth, clean uniforms, and their house is clean is what keeps her sane.”

Allsop’s comments provoked outrage from hundreds of women on social media.

“Says the celebrity woman who employs more than one cleaner,” one frustrated reader wrote.

“It’s easy to say you love ironing when you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to. Sadly, that’s not the reality for 99 per cent of women.”

Worst-dressed at the Golden Globes

They have the ultimate access to every designer celebrity stylist but even the biggest stars can get it oh-so-wrong!

The 2014 awards season kicks off on Sunday with the annual Golden Globes and to most women that means just one thing: Frocks!

But it’s not just the glamorous and chic that get our pulses racing – we’re just as excited by the fashion faux pas that inevitably strut down every red carpet.

While we wait with bated breath for this year’s sartorial offerings, we look back at some of the best outfits from the Golden Globes hall of shame.

Cher, Diane Keaton, Julia Roberts, Lara Flynn Boyle and Sharon Stone.

And just what else would we expect from Helena Bonham Carter? This Vivienne Westwood creation and mismatched shoes would look ridiculous one anyone else, but Helena kind of pulls it off.

Diane Keaton’s known for being a bit of an oddball but this all white ensemble takes the cake! She might have missed out in the style stakes but took home the award for 2004’s Something’s Gotta Give.

This was an awkward look for Girls creator Lena Dunham who looks like she’s being drowned in her big burgundy gown.

Actress Rinko Kikuchi certainly ballsed up this outfit! The Babel star certainly caused a stir with this Chanel creation.

While Gwyneth Paltrow may be the yardstick for fashion now, it seems this wasn’t always the case, especially in 2000 when she attended the GG’s in this odd number.

Sharon Stone went over-the-top goth in this 2003 Versace disaster! She should have gone with her basic instincts.

Lucy Liu was swamped in this massive rose-patterned Carolina Herrera gown.

Cher or Morticia Addams? The veteran star can push it in the style stakes but in 2010 it was just too bizarre.

This ill-fitting oriental collared suit was not Cate Blanchett’s finest fashion moment.

Marisa Tomei chose ‘bohemian hipster pirate chic’ as her inspiration this year.

It’s risky business dressing for an awards show but lucky comedian, Christine Baranski could hide her face behind some sunnies but too bad she couldn’t conceal her mermaid-cut gown and gloves.

Sarah Michelle Gellar had a rare mis-step in this tie-dyed number.

Halle Berry’s Versace dress has too much going on! Print and cut-out bodice and thigh, OH MY!

Jessica Alba at the 2002 Golden Globes.

Okay, it was the 90’s but Julia Roberts still shouldn’t have borrowed her Dad’s suit to go to the show.

Wowzers! Floor length velevet? C’mon Fergie, even you know better than that!

Julianne Moore wasn’t looking her best in this ill-fitting gown in 2010.

All we can say is thank goodness Lara Flynn Boyle’s David Cardona ballarina inspired outfit was a one-off creation. We never want to see this get up again.

Diane Kruger’s Christian Lacroix gown was far too fussy for our taste.

While normally the envy of everyone, Blake Lively’s scarily ill-fitting silk gown will go down a as reminder that shiny fabrics, just like Joan Rivers, are indiscriminately ruthless to all who cross them.

Heidi Klum; lucky she has a superstar smile.

Did nobody tell Nicole Kidman that she could break character to attend the awards? The actress seemed to make the most of her Moulin Rouge style in her 2004 Yves Saint Laurent outfit.

Madonna… Is that you? Nope! It’s fashion savvy Sarah Jessica Parker who added a blip to her perfect style record with this material girl getup in 2003.

Oh bless her. Poor Pamela Anderson tried to do demure but doesn’t really rock the look.

Queen Elizabeth orders Prince Harry to shave his beard

The Queen has reportedly instructed Prince Hairy to shave off his new ginger beard.
Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry

Sources close to the palace allege Her Majesty is none too pleased with the young Prince’s scruffy look and thinks his unruly facial hair is unbecoming of a royal.

Harry, 29, grew the beard last month while on a charity walk in the South Pole for the Walking with the Wounded organisation.

The Queen was reportedly happy for Harry to sport the beard while he was on the trek, but wants it gone now that he has returned to the UK because it doesn’t sit well with the palace’s clean cut image.

Though it is not explicitly expressed in their contracts, palace staff aren’t allowed to sport unkempt facial hair but the Queen is said to be worried this rule will be harder to enforce when her own grandson has such a wild beard.

While the internet is abuzz with Harry’s scruff, with some dubbing him “His Royal Hotness”, like any grandson, Harry doesn’t like to upset his elderly grandmother. Apparently the young royal is willing to shave his face, but only after his current skiing holiday with girlfriend Cressida Bonas is complete.

Gwyneth Paltrow promotes extreme diet

Gwyneth Paltrow promotes extreme diet

It’s no secret that Gwyneth Paltrow watches her weight, but has the star gone too far by promoting a three-day detox diet that mainly consists of lemon water, herbal teas and seeds?

The 41-year-old Hollywood actress has published her January winter detox diet on her lifestyle blog goop, with UK’s Mirror claiming the diet consists of only 300 calories per day.

In contrast, the lowest energy meal plan by popular weight loss group Lite n’ Easy consists of 1200 calories per day – four times as much as goop’s.

On Gwyn’s detox diet, you would exceed the calorie count by simply consuming three medium-sized bananas, which are over 100 calories each.

The January diet recommends hot lemon water for breakfast, followed by a variety of soups, pates, seeds and steamed fish and vegetables.

“You know we love a good detox here at goop, and this January is no exception,” Gwyneth wrote on her website.

“Our winter detox has looser guidelines and restrictions than ones we’ve done in the past, but here is what we’re avoiding: dairy, gluten, shellfish, anything processed (including all soy products), nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant), condiments, sugar, alcohol, caffeine and soda.”

Named the most beautiful woman by US People magazine in 2013, Gwyn, who is married to Coldplay rocker Chris Martin, was criticised late last year for reportedly imposing her diet on her 9-year-old daughter Apple and son Moses, 7.

The Sliding Doors actress is known in celebrity circles for her strict diet, but has the star gone too far this time? Melbourne GP, Dr Sally Cockburn thinks so.

“Rather than a three day detox diet, why not take three days to make a lifelong change to eating better food?” Dr Sally Cockburn said.

“The problem with these fad diets is they are fads. You commit to it for three days and then just go back to your normal diet.

“Your liver is a natural detox organ and will get rid of toxins for you. Put time into looking after your liver, and other major organs, not into doing fad diets.”

Dr Cockburn suggests the best diet is a change in attitude and way of thinking.

“As a New Year’s resolution rather than doing a fad diet think about changing the way you view yourself long term. If you love yourself you will always look after yourself.”

The couple, who have been married for 13 years, spent Christmas and New Year together, holidaying with their kids Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10.

Michael Douglas shared this holiday snap on his Facebook page.

Hewitt in shock win over Federer

Lleyton Hewitt and Rodger Federer post-match.

Lleyton Hewitt and Rodger Federer post-match.

The two hour and eight minute upset saw Hewitt, 32, capitalise on a strong start which earned him a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory at a packed out Pat Rafter Arena.

Hewitt went in for the kill early and his initial assault caught the 17-time Grand Slam champion on the back foot, forcing Federer to play an error-riddled first set.

The Fed seemed uncharacteristically shaken, making 22 unforced errors, compared to Hewitt’s 3.

The Swiss star clutched his first break point of the match in the fifth game of the second set, but Hewitt smashed out a terrific lunging volley and which enabled the Aussie to hold serve.

Federer wrestled off a break point for 4-4 and, with Hewitt 40-0 up in the next game, and then the Swiss champ fought his way back to create a pivotal break before holding comfortably to claim the exciting set.

But a seemingly reinvigorated Hewitt was remorseless and unrelenting in his efforts and eventually became the unexpected victor of the match.

Despite the shock loss and his poor performance the Swiss champion seemed humble and had nothing but praise for his opponent.

“I didn’t play great today which is a bit unfortunate, but also Lleyton was the best player I played this week,” the 32-year-old said.

While being presented with the trophy, the Aussie seemed emotional, which is no surprise when you consider the veteran’s injury-plagued past 12 months.

“The most pleasing thing is what I’ve had to come through and the tough times in terms of surgery,” he said.

“Before the last surgery I made no secret, there was no guarantees I would be able to play again at all.”

Hewitt said his performance during the tournament would see him take a new sense of confidence with him to the Australian Open in Melbourne.

“If I play like I did this week, then I have a chance of doing some damage against serious players,” he said.
