From model to mogul: Kate Moss turns 40

Kate Moss may be moseying into middle age but the British bombshell is still as in demand as ever.
Kate Moss playboy cover

It’s been almost three decades since a scrawny British teenager was plucked out of obscurity at JFK airport and propelled into the stratosphere as one of fashion’s most influential icons.

Kate Moss celebrates 40th birthday this week and in typical Mossy style, the model is keeping her lips sealed about her milestone celebrations.

Despite her age, the supermodel has no intention of slowing down. She is still signed on as the face of beauty brand Rimmel London, has hotly anticipated collaborations with Topshop due out soon and has just inked a deal to become a contributing fashion editor of British Vogue.

Not letting age get in her way, Kate last year posed nude for Playboy’s 60th Anniversary edition and the pictures would make models half her age green with envy.

While the the inner circle of ‘Moss’s Posse’ might not be letting us in on what the plans are in terms of a party, there has been wide speculation that the location of the bash will be Virgin tycoon, Richard Branson’s Necker Island.

Until the party pictures emerge we in the public are likely to remain in the dark, but until then let’s take the time to look back at 40 of Ms Moss’s biggest thrills and spills, because goodness knows there have been a few!

Plastic Surgery for Barbie app.

A new app that taught girls as young as nine to perform plastic surgery on an overweight blonde woman has been pulled from sale.

The free app, called “Plastic Surgery for Barbie”, invited players to use liposuction to “suck the fat” out of the woman to “make her beautiful”.

“This unfortunate girl has so much extra weight that no diet can help her,” the game’s description read. “In our clinic she can go through a surgery called liposuction that will make her slim and beautiful.

“We’ll need to make small cuts on problem areas and suck out the extra fat. Will you operate on her, doctor?”

The game – which was aimed at players aged nine and older – appeared on the Apple and Google stores last week and caused outrage almost immediately.

“Not only is this app teaching girls incredibly narrow standards of beauty to which they will certainly compare themselves, it’s also equipping them with the tools to ‘take care’ of this imaginary problem of ‘extra weight’. Exactly what nine-year-old girls need,” Isha Aran wrote on feminist blog Jezebel.

A Twitter protest led by EverydaySexism resulted in iTunes quietly removing the app from its stores overnight.

Bec Hewitt’s ‘tandoori tan’ sparks Twitter storm

Bec Hewitt tan

Bec Hewitt’s deep orange tan has caused a social media storm, with hundreds of tennis fans tweeting about her “tandoori” skin tone.

Bec turned out to watch her husband Lleyton’s first round Australian Open match in Melbourne yesterday.

But while tennis fans tuned in to watch the action on court, they were soon distracted by Bec’s apparent “spray tan fail” and took to social media to comment.

“Wow, Bec Hewitt looks like she stuck her head in a bag of Twisties,” one particularly unkind viewer wrote, while another added: “She looks like an Oompa Loompa with that orange tan!”

“Bec Hewitt still looks like a babe,” a more supportive fan added. “That tan though!”

In Bec’s defence, she has been naturally bronzed since she was a teenager, and her tan has only deepened since she moved to The Bahamas in 2009.

Bec’s tan looked even more orange next to her white-blonde hair.

Her over-bronzed look was not a hit among tennis fans.

The blonde beauty sported a deep tan in August last year.

The former soapie star was very bronzed at Wimbledon in 2009.

She had a more natural tan on the set of Home and Away in 2004.

Beyonce’s baby Blue takes a $5500 bath

Beyonce’s Baby Takes A $5500 Bath

Picture: Splash/Beyonce Tumblr

Beyonce’s baby Blue Ivy was always set to have a privileged lifestyle but now her superstar mama appears to have gone a little gaga by splashing out $5500 on a bath for her two-year-old daughter.

Recent reports say the Drunk In Love singer ordered up the pricey Evian bath for her and Blue to share at their suite in the Hotel Victor in Miami on New Year’s Eve.

The spa treatment involves pouring 1,000 litres of twice-purified bottled Evian water into a bath tub – which, when we come to think of it, must take ages!

Gerbera daisies are then scattered in the water and the bath is surrounded by scented candles.

The relaxing experience is said to revitalise the skin and purify the senses.

Beyonce, who’d already paid $5500 a night for her suite at the hotel , reportedly also ordered a ‘platter of smoked salmon lollipops and a dessert plate called the Seven Sins of Chocolate’, a source told Now magazine.

A Hotel Victor denied the establishment offers Evian baths but reports of the treatment date back to 2005, when Serena Williams was the first to try it out.

It has since become known as the “world’s most expensive spa treatment” and has been used by the likes of Britney Spears.

One can only wonder what Beyonce thought when she finally pulled the plug on her bath of bling-water.

Lady Louise undergoes eye surgery

Louise's new look was first noticed at Royal Ascot last year.

Lady Louise Windsor, 10, has suffered from exotropia – a condition that turns the eyes outwards – since she was born prematurely in November 2003.

As well as affecting her appearance, the condition made it difficult for Louise to see clearly.

Louise underwent a 30-minute surgery under general anaesthetic late last year which successfully corrected the problem.

Royal watchers first noticed her new look when Louise accompanied her parents to Royal Ascot last December, and well-wishers who turned out to greet the royal family as they attended church on Christmas Day also commented on the difference in her appearance.

Louise first had an operation to attempt to fix the problem when she was 18 months old but it was not successful. It is not known how many subsequent surgeries she has undergone in the years since.

Woman hospitalised after three hour long orgasm

Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally

A Seattle woman was taken to the emergency room after enduring a marathon three-hour orgasm.

The woman, known only as Liz, had the pleasure and then the pain of experiencing a seemingly never-ending climax after having sex with her partner, Eric.

The story of Liz’s marathon orgasm featured on new American cable TV show Sex Sent Me to the ER on TLC.

Liz first became concerned when her climax lasted for more than an hour and began seeking ways to end it.

“I started hopping up and down to see if that would do anything,” Liz said.

“I started trying to drink wine to see if that would calm down my system. I tried just about every possible thing I could do to stop having an orgasm.”

After two hours, she admitted herself to hospital. Initially, hospital staff suspected Liz was going into labour, but by the third hour her symptoms had begun to subside.

While some women do suffer from a rare condition called Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome, which can cause its sufferers to experience over 100 orgasms daily, it’s understood that Liz’s ordeal was just a one-off.
