Prince William and Prince Harry join flood relief effort

While his wife was visiting a school in Middlesex on an engagement, Prince William teamed up with his brother, Prince Harry, to quietly join the relief efforts for Britain's devastating floods.
Prince William and Prince Harry charity work

There was no press in attendance, no palace officials, in fact the royal duo were only spied by chance by a journalist investigating the flooding.

They were at a railway crossing in Datchet, a village in Berkshire hit by the floods, and spent more than 10 hours toiling in terrible conditions.

With a small team from the Household Cavalry and railway staff the Princes, clad in gum boots and waterproofs, were discovered lugging sandbags as part of a human chain.

Palace officials confirmed it was a “private mission” which was intended to fly under the radar.

Britain is currently in a virtual state of emergency as more bad weather batters the island with no hope of a let up.

The Princes response was one being echoed by many less high profile folk all over England keen to help communities protect their properties and livelihoods.

The discretion of the royal actions was reminiscent of their mother Princess Diana, who frequently made secret mercy missions to help those in need.

Kate Middleton wins hearts on Valentine’s Day

The Duchess of Cambridge won herself a few hundred more admirers yesterday, impressing school kids with her warmth and personality.
Kate Middleton

Inside, she met with uproarious applause, cheers and whoops of delight from the 1000 or so pupils sitting cross-legged on the floor of the school sports hall.

If ever you needed a barometer of The Duchess of Cambridge’s popularity with Britain’s youth this was surely it. Certainly the students had been primed for the royal arrival by their teachers, but their uncontrollable sense of excitement and awe was obvious to see.

The Duchess was here to officially open The ICAP Art Room at Northolt High School in her role as Royal Patron to The Art Room, a national charity offering art as therapy to children and young people aged five to 16 years facing challenges in their lives.

It was the Duchess’s second official engagement of the year and she looked to be enjoying herself.

In a chic fitted bright blue dress from UK high street store LK Bennett and black heels, she chatted to pupils, staff and those involved in the charity and joined the young artists at work in their spanking new Art Room.

“The students were nervous at first, it’s overwhelming. But she completely focussed on them, commenting on their work,” Juli Beattie, Founder Director of The Art Room, told The Weekly. “She’s great at putting the children at ease. It felt like a celebration.”

The Duchess’s involvement is a huge advantage for the relatively small charity – this is the seventh Art Room they have completed in different locations around the UK. It was funded with £105,000 raised by the city firm ICAP (which also has offices in Australia).

The company holds an annual charity day at which guests which have included Princes William and Harry stand in as traders to raise money. ICAP then donates all of its revenue and commissions made on the day to charity.

“There’s no doubt the Duchess’ endorsement makes a huge difference. She believes in the power of art and is also family minded.” says Juli Beattie.

After Kate left the children erupted into excited conversations as they gathered in the assembly room and shared tales of their royal encounters. In her speech Head Teacher Gloria Lowe talked of the power of love, it being Valentine’s Day.

Today in this less-privileged part of suburban outer London, Northolt High School felt a touch of royal love and there’s no question that it made them feel distinctly special.

Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry unite at charity event

The royal boys band together to call for an end to the illegal wildlife trade and stop the systematic slaughter of the world's most endangered animals.
Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry

Prince Harry made a surprise appearance joining his father and brother at the packed conference hosted by the UK Government and attended by an impressive throng of heads of government and environmentalists including former New Zealand PM Helen Clark.

Earlier this week Prince William faced criticism in the local press following his reported wild boar-hunting weekend in Spain, but today the royal triumvirate were out to prove their unquestioned support for the global fight against illegal wildlife trade and their message was loud and clear.

Prince Charles has passed on his passionate views on conservationism to his sons, William and Harry.

Princes William and Harry proudly applauded as their father delivered a powerful and passionate speech reinforcing the importance of today’s event to tackle what The Prince described as “appalling trade annihilating our threatened wildlife”.

The Prince of Wales’ involvement in the campaign came about following desperate and direct calls for help from leaders in Africa.

“To be frank, it saddens me deeply that I have found myself having to play a part in helping to bring together this very important gathering,” Prince Charles said.

“A little over a year ago, a group of Presidents from Africa approached me and made an impassioned plea for help. The situation they described was indeed dire. The scale of the poaching crisis their countries were facing had reached unimaginable heights.

“Organised gangs, terrorist groups and militia were slaughtering ever greater numbers of elephants for their ivory and rhinoceros for their horns.”

The royals hope that education will curb the “insatiable” demand for products derived from threatened and endangered species.

The Prince set into motion a series of meetings with key heads of state and campaigners resulting in this morning’s conference at which government leaders from nations including China – one of the largest consumers of illegal wildlife trade products – to sign “The London Declaration” pledging to address “the demand for and consumption of specific products from the critically endangered wildlife.”

The Conference follows a joint putsch from Prince Charles and Prince William. The two future kings using their influence to persuade the Government to host this two-day conference to combat the £6 billion trade in ivory, horn and other illegal wildlife products.

In a video released earlier this week Prince William announced: “We have to be the generation that stopped the illegal wildlife trade and secured the future of these magnificent animals and their habitats, for if we fail it will be too late.”

Australian actress Margot Robbie is teaming up with True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgard for the jungle films latest reboot.
Margot Robbie Wolf of Wall Street premiere

Robbie has landed the role of Jane Porter and Skarsgard will portray her vine-swinging love interest, Tarzan. The classic story is to be set in modern-day London and Samuel L Jackson and Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz will also appear in the film.

Although the story has been retold numerous times, this production aims to put a more humanised aspect on the Edgar Rice Burroughs tale. Skarsgard’s portrayal will focus on Tarzan’s later life, exploring how he adapts to life in the British capital after being orphaned as a baby and raised in the jungle by animals.

Sexy stars, Margot Robbie and Alexander Skarsgard are sure to bring in the big bucks.

While Skarsgard, of True Blood fame, has a huge fan base behind him, Robbie is sure to bring in some serious blockbuster bucks. She is currently the number three most-searched star on IMDB after Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Jennifer Lawrence, and ahead of Scarlett Johansson.

Margot Robbie in her film, Wolf of Wall Street

The night’s losers might head out of the Kodak theatre sans gold statue but the will certainly not feel cheated for tuning up with wine, chocolates, jewellery and even holidays included in the Oscar swag bag.

The March 2 broadcast’s party favours are set to be quite the package with a Swiss made Slow Watch, luxury vacation packages to the Canadian Rockies, Mexico and Japan and also charity donations of 10,000 meals to animal shelters, sponsored by awards host Ellen DeGeneres’s Halo natural pet food.

While it all sounds pretty fantastic, it’s still probably not as good as an Oscar.
