Gwyneth caught in $6m lawsuit over fishy business

The stunning actress has found herself in the middle of legal action brought by a high-end beauty product she endorses

Gwyneth Paltrow signed on as the face of skincare company Restorsea earlier this month and attributes her gorgeous, dewy skin to the brand’s signature facial cream.

The basis of the high-end beauty product is an anti-aging enzyme, harvested from salmon hatcheries in Norway.

But Restorsea’s owner Patricia Pao claims the supplier of the special ingredient, “salmon hatching fluid”, breached an exclusivity agreement by marketing their own products.

Patricia has demanded $6 million in damages, saying she was responsible for discovering the benefits of the ingredient as she “noticed that the workers’ hands, which were submerged in the hatchery’s waters all day, appeared more youthful than their aged faces”.

Gwyneth has not commented on the legal proceedings but stated recently that “I never promote anything that I don’t use, love and believe in, and I’m thrilled to support the brand and its mission to encourage women to embrace their age”.

How to bounce back from redundancy

Being made redundant can take a huge toll on your life, both financially and emotionally.

The good news is, redundancy can also open up career opportunities that might have otherwise passed you by, as this anonymous employee Jay**, 29, discovered…

Jay was a community engagement coordinator at an Australian non-profit organisation for one and a half years when the had to shed staff amidst a tough economic climate.

“I had expected redundancies for some time – given the financial health of the organisation,” Jay says. “At first, I went for every job I saw, even if I didn’t want it!”

But then she met someone who had been made redundant from the advertising industry and committed to taking six months to relax and enjoy life – she decided to do the same.

“I took the same approach and refused to feel guilty for it,” she says. “I only went for jobs I really wanted and I spent time volunteering for a cause I really cared about.”

Within a few weeks, a senior youth advisor position came up at her former company’s sister office in Uganda. Jay applied – along with more then 200 other applicants – and after travelling to Kampala as part of the interview process, landed the role.

Jay is now part of the leadership team responsible for advising 10 offices across the country on youth engagement and advocacy.

“I am finally working in Africa – something that I had meant to do for the past eight years,” she says.

TIPS FOR COPING WITH REDUNDANCY

Katie Roberts, director of Katie Roberts Career Consulting, said the key is to remember not to take it personally. “In most cases, when companies make roles redundant, it is an objective decision based on financial issues,” she says.

Roberts suggests the following steps to cope with the emotional rollercoaster and find yourself a new job following redundancy.

Seek support: Talk to a family member or friend who has experienced redundancy. If you are offered an outplacement service as part of your redundancy, take advantage of it to sharpen your CV.

Make a financial plan: It can take several months to get a new position in a competitive job market. Work out your financial responsibilities and budget accordingly to avoid unneeded stress while you are searching for jobs.

Maintain a routine: Spending the day in your pyjamas keeps you in an ‘unemployed’ mindset. Get dressed and treat Monday to Friday as a normal working week to boost your job application efforts.

Be proactive: Apply for positions on job boards, but also make a list of the companies you want to work for and contact them directly.

Follow up on job applications: “Candidates who follow up and chase employers are more likely to get in the door,” says Roberts.

Jay says she is definitely in a much better position in her new role than before she was made redundant.

“My role is very fulfilling and I feel that when the contract is up in 18 months, I will be much better positioned to get a job I really want back home,” she says. “That’s if I end up going home, I do love it here!”

Prince Harry and Chelsy Davy in 2008.

Prince Harry frequently got drunk and telephoned his ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy, a London court has heard.

The 29-year-old royal would call blonde Chelsy, who he dated on and off until 2011, and “shout his affections to her down the phone,” the court investigating phone hacking at now-defunct British tabloid The News of the World heard yesterday.

The information came from an email sent by former royal correspondent Clive Goodman in March 2006 and read out during the trial yesterday.

“She gets calls from him and he’s completely not in a good condition – piss-ups,” Goodman wrote.

The court also heard about a prank call Prince William made to Harry, in which he left a message in a high-pitched female voice saying: “Hi, it’s Chelsy here. You’re the best-looking ginger I’ve ever seen … you big hairy fat ginger.”

Prince Harry said that he would rather be at the nuptials of trashy celebrities Katie Price and Peter Andre than that of his stepbrother Tom Parker Bowles, a court heard yesterday.

While giving evidence at a The News of the World phone hacking trial, Clive Goodman, then the royal editor of the tabloid told the court he had deployed lipreaders to spy on the society wedding in 2005.

According to an email sent by Goodman to editor, Andy Coulson, Harry had said: “To be honest, I’d rather be at Jordan’s (Katie Price’s).”

Coulson replied asking: “How did we get this?” Goodman said it was a result of eavesdropping from lipreaders at the ceremony.

Mr Parker Bowles married Sara Buys on their wedding day.

Mr Parker Bowles married Sara Buys in Oxfordshire on the same day as model Ms Price – known as Jordan – married Mr Andre at Highclere Castle in one of the tackiest celeb ceremonies of recent times.

“It was not unusual to use lipreaders at such events,” Goodman told the court.

Keira Knightley’s wedding dress covered in wine stains

Keira Knightley says the recycled Chanel dress she wore to her low key wedding is now “impressively splattered” with red wine.
Keira Knightley wedding dress

Keira Knightley has revealed how a friend ruined the Chanel dress she wore on her wedding day by spilling red wine all over it.

“It’s now got red wine stains down the front because the last time I wore it my friend went like this (juts out her elbows) and now it’s everywhere,” the actress recently said in an interview with the UK’s Daily Telegraph.

“I didn’t quite realise the extent of it until I got home. It’s quite impressively splattered. But, hey, a good night is a good night and when a dress has had its time, maybe it’s had its time.

Keira, who has appeared as a face of Chanel for years, recycled a white strapless, knee-length dress from her closet to marry musician, James Righton of the indie band The Klaxons.

“I’d worn the dress lots. It was my something old. And I like not making a big deal about it. I just wanted to be in something I had had a great time in, something I would have a great time in again.”

While some might expect an A-lister to be precious about her wedding dress, Keira seems to be refreshingly relaxed about the spillage.

“I’m pretty sure I can get it out but, if I can’t, I’m happy with the memory of a good night and the story of how the dress got destroyed.”

Keira and James, who got married last year, joined a list of celebrities, like Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, Beyoncé and Jay-Z and Natalie Portman who have managed to avoid the paparazzi’s prying eyes and get married in secret.

Keira has worn her vintage Chanel wedding dress dozens of times, including to a party in 2008 (left) and an event in December 2013 (right).

The wavy, shoulder-length bob the mum-of-one has been sporting since December had a new addition: a fringe.

Perhaps, she trying to recapture a past era (she had a banged bob in 2008 and then a shaggy fringe in 2012), or maybe it’s for new TV role in which she plays an ‘Audrey Hepburn-esque’ New York City socialite. Only time will tell!

Fifi Box slams company over diet pill claims

Radio star Fifi Box has slammed a weight-loss company that promotes diet pills for illegally using an image of her to endorse their product.

Speaking on her afternoon radio show Fox FM’s Fifi & Dave, the 37-year-old mother-of-one slammed the company, which she declined to name, saying she would never use their “disgusting” diet pills.

“I don’t promote diet pills. I think they’re disgusting. I’m so inherently against what they represent. It’s so infuriating to me that a company are blatantly illegally using my image and one of the photos they use is one they’ve grabbed of me with Trixie,” she said.

Fifi learned of the unauthorised promotion after her fans began contacting her on Twitter and Facebook about the social media posts that endorse the products.

“I’m being smashed at the moment on Facebook and people may have seen this – it may have popped up in their newsfeeds,” she said.

While Fifi did lose more than 15kg after the birth of her daughter Trixie Belle, the New Atkins nutritional approach is to thank for her slimdown.

Fifi says her determination to stick to her diet plan and kick her sugar habit “once and for all” has helped her feel the best she’s ever felt.

“I’ve never felt more confident in my body,” she toldWoman’s Daylast month.

“I feel better than I’ve ever felt before in my life.”
