Aussie cricket WAGs at war

As the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh kicks into high gear this week and the team fight to stay grounded, it seems the real fireworks are in the stands.

While Aussie cricket captain Michael Clarke works on improving on-field harmony for his team, there’s an even bigger storm brewing in the baggy greens’ cheer squad.

And insiders say that Michael won’t have to look very far to find one of the sources at the centre of the warring WAGs.

“Michael’s wife Kyly has been labelled not so lovingly as Queen Bee,” says our cricket insider. “The tensions between the girls got so bad on the last tour, a core group of wives and girlfriends would make plans to go on day trips without her,” we’re told.

And the newest WAG on the block, ever-popular Candice Falzon (pictured, right) , is claimed by some inside the cricket camp to be a thorn in Kyly’s side.

How you’re ruining your parents’ retirement

Young families rely too heavily on grandparents, exploiting them a source of cheap housing and child care, says an academic from the University of Western Sydney.
Grandparents with child

Young families rely too heavily on grandparents, exploiting them a source of cheap housing and child care, says an academic from the University of Western Sydney.

Sue Field, a Fellow in Elder Law at UWS, says “adult children” who live with their parents to save money and constantly expect their parents to step in as baby sitters are creating a stress epidemic among the nation’s elderly.

“Many elderly Australians simply find it too hard to say no, so much so that even when they are asked the ultimate favour, to take the possessions, lives and even partners of their adult children into the family home, they feel they have to say yes,” Ms Field said.

So, at a time when many elderly should be enjoying their hard-won leisure time, they find themselves pulled back into the daily grind of nappies, teething and temper tantrums, combined with all the responsibilities that comes with having extra people around the home when what they really need is some peace and quiet.

She says we should reconsider the expectations that we put on seniors when we pressure them to take care of the kids.

“I urge all Australians, especially those who rely on their parents more than they perhaps should, to stop and consider how they can help elderly Australians live the dream retirement, instead of the one that just helps others with the costs of babysitting and accommodation,” Ms Field said.

Pistorius selling home to pay legal bills

Oscar Pistorius and his Pretoria home.

Oscar Pistorius plans to sell the $460,000 house where he shot dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last year to pay his legal fees.

Pistorius, currently on trial for shooting Steenkamp in the upstairs bathroom of his luxury home in Pretoria on Valentine’s Day last year, is spending as much as $9000 a day on his defence, which claims that Steenkamp’s death was the result of a tragic accident.

The paralympian’s costs are believed to include at least three full time lawyers, ballistics and forensics experts and a US crime scene reconstruction team.

“It has become necessary to sell Mr Pistorius’s home in the Silver Woods Country Estate in Pretoria in order for him to raise the necessary funds to cover his increasing legal costs,” said his lawyer Brian Webber in a statement released earlier today.

“This is due to the unexpected extension of the trial beyond the initial three-week period for which it was originally set down.”

The home is one of three properties owned by the athlete, who has lived at his uncle’s home in Pretoria since his 29-year-old girlfriend’s death. His lawyer said Pistorius “cannot contemplate ever returning to live there again”.

Wearing a black floor-length Roberto Cavalli gown, Jennifer Hawkins looked sensational on the ASTRA Awards red carpet last night.

The annual ceremony recognises the wealth of talent that drives the Australian paid TV industry and highlights the creativity, commitment and investment in production and broadcasting.

While everyone from Nicole Trunfio to Kerri Anne Kennerley turned up to the event with similar merry intentions, everyone knew that the night would include one sombre yet special moment.

An honorary award was presented to Robin Barclay and Vicky Dawson, the sisters of TV personality Charlotte Dawson for her “exceptional contribution” to the Australian TV industry. Dawson took her own life earlier this year after a long and painful battle with depression.

Lisa Wilkinson also paid a posthumous tribute to fashion designer L’Wren Scott while wearing a dress from the designer to the event.

Black was clearly in vogue on the night with many stars wearing the hue.

Prince George’s new 007-style supernanny

Prince George's new carer has been unmasked as a Spanish "supernanny" who is trained in martial arts and James Bond-style stunt driving.
Prince George

Prince George’s new carer has been unmasked as a Spanish “supernanny” who is trained in martial arts and James Bond-style stunt driving.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have confirmed they have hired Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo to look after their eight-month-old son.

“Maria is a full-time nanny, who started work with us recently, and will be accompanying the Duke and Duchess and Prince George to New Zealand and Australia,” a Kensington Palace spokesman said.

“We will not be giving further details on Maria or her employment, except to say that the Duke and Duchess are of course delighted she has chosen to join them.”

The Daily Star photographed Maria, George and a bodyguard in London’s Hyde Park.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given that her new charge is the future King of England, Maria is no ordinary nanny.

She trained at the prestigious Norland College, the UK’s premiere child minding school where a three-year degree costs $65,000.

As well as nappy changes and child CPR, students are trained in Tae Kwan Do for self-defence – including innovative techniques for escaping kidnappers while pushing a pram – and stunt driving, with special focus on high speed evasive manoeuvres for avoiding paparazzi.

Graduates of the establishment have gone on to work for some of the world’s biggest celebrities and aristocrats.

Maria, who is in her mid-thirties, has spent the past two decades working for high society families. She got the chance to bond with George earlier this month when she cared for him while his parents enjoyed a quick break in the Maldives.

Khloe Kardashian buys Justin Bieber’s house

The recently separated reality star is moving on with her life without Lamar Odom by purchasing a new property

The recently separated reality star is moving on with her life without Lamar Odom by purchasing a new property.

Khloe is moving into global popstar Justin Bieber’s former pad, after spending more than $7 million on the house.

She sold the marital home she and Lamar shared in December last year to The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco and her new husband, Ryan Sweeting.

Bieber put his house on the market after several incidents, including egging the neighbour’s dog, that put him out of favour with the other residents.

Sister Kourtney Kardashian and her partner, Scott Disick, recently bought a property a few doors up from Khloe’s new digs.

See our gallery of pictures inside Khloe’s new house and the one she recently sold.

Khloe Kardashian has bought Justin Bieber’s Los Angeles property for $7.2 million.

Khloe’s new home is located in The Oaks, a gated community in Calabasas, California.

29-year-old Khloe has big plans to completely transform the mansion.

A friend said: “She saw that house as a place she’d like to live for a very long time and she’s smart because she knows that whenever she wants to sell, she’ll make a profit on it.”

The 9,214 square foot estate has six bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

Reports state Khloe has already enlisted interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, from the series Million Dollar Decorators.

“She’s going to put her Khloe touch on it and make it hers,” the friend says.

Justin Bieber purchased the sprawling home in 2012.

Bieber quietly put it on the market after some public, heated run-ins with his neighbours.

Justin is said to be moving to a rented mansion in Atlanta, Georgia for some “time out”.

She sold this house ‘Big Bang Theory’ to actress Kaley Cuoco and her new husband Ryan Sweeting.
