The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George

Five months after his last official portrait was released, Prince George has sat for another picture.

Posing with his proud parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the family dog Lupo, the eight-month-old future king looks absolutely adorable in the image, and considerably bigger than the last time we saw him at his christening in October.

The portrait – shot by Jason Bell, who took George’s official christening portraits – was released ahead of the royal trio’s upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand.

It was taken in their Kensington Palace home, the newly-renovated Apartment 1a, earlier this month.

William, Kate and George will touch down in New Zealand on April 7 and depart Australia on April 25.

Where’s Daddy gone? Tom Cruise missing for 5 months

Her megastar dad’s retreat from public life has cut into their time together.

Despite being one of the most instantly recognisable men on the planet, Woman’s Day understands Tom Cruise has deliberately removed himself from public life to concentrate on Scientology therapy – and has been “missing” for months.

Those close to the star describe him as “increasingly isolated” and “living like a hermit”.

He last surfaced in November, joining fellow Scientology superstar John Travolta at a Florida ceremony celebrating the opening of a building where the sect’s members “learn how to obtain superpowers”.

Tom was seen grinning from ear to ear – a far cry from the reserved figure he’s cut on the set of his recent film Edge Of Tomorrow, yet another story of him fighting against aliens.

Sir Peter Cosgrove sworn in

In a nation which so deeply prides itself on its ANZAC legend it seems fitting that today one of Australia’s most celebrated and revered diggers found himself sworn into the highest constitutional office in the land.

Wearing civilian attire, Sir Peter Cosgrove was escorted into the Senate this morning by the Usher of the Black Rod and the Sargent-at-Arms and after taking an oath -affirming his faithful allegiance to her Majesty the Queen- Cosgrove left as the 26th governor-general of Australia.

During a reception held in the Parliament House Member’s Hall after the official proceedings Cosgrove, joined by his wife Lynne, described his new appointment as “exhilarating and humbling.”

“For my family, my friends and of course Lynne and I it is an unforgettable day,” said Sir Peter.

Cosgrave described former governor-general, Quentin Bryce as his “esteemed predecessor” but his praises did not stop there.

While standing in front of Prime Minister Tony Abbott and opposition leader, Bill Shorten the new governor-general paid a special mention to Australia’s politicians, calling them the “lifeblood” of our nation.

“I think I say on behalf of my fellow Australians, I applaud your whole hearted commitment to the service of your constituents and through them to the grouping of communities all the way up to the national community.”

Of course Australia’s new governor-general perhaps saved his most special mention till last when he directed his speech to those Australians in uniform.

“To our many men and women in uniform, to those in the armed services and those in that wealth of other agencies who wear the uniform with Australia upon it, you are an especially esteemed part of our national treasure and while my governor-generalship will embrace the 23 million people of this nation I’ll always have a special place for you in the depths of my heart.”

During his speech Tony Abbott touched on some of the former commander’s military achievements including Vietnam, Hurricane Larry and of course, East Timor.

The Prime Minister said that Cosgrove’s willingness “to give a fair go to others and to have a fair go” was a quality that would serve him well in his new role.

“As a governor general you will be a knight for rolling up yourselves and getting on with things because that’s what you’ve always done,” said the PM.

Officially, the Governor-General will be addressed by his full title, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd).

Gwyneth and Chris: ‘The model who stole Chris’s heart’

It’s not just another showbiz divorce. The inside story behind this ‘uncoupling’ is especially intriguing.

Six months ago, rumours swept through celebrity circles both here and in the US that Chris Martin was seeing an LA-based Aussie model. And two leading women in the entertainment industry here confirm they heard the rumour, too, but were unable to confirm it.

“There were people talking about it here, London and LA but no-one could ever produce any proof,” says one.

“We’d all heard the rumours but then Chris and Gwyneth carried on with their lives, trying to patch up the marriage.

“I think people hoped it would work out and that Chris had just had a fling with her. But once the divorce news broke last week, everyone started talking about it again and I’m hearing they are still seeing each other – but it’s all very low-key. Neither is ready to go public on this one.”

Watch this space…
