Carla Zampatti opens Fashion Week

Legend designer Carla Zampatti opened fashion week with another stunning collection for Spring-Summer 2014/2015.

Legend designer Carla Zampatti kicked off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2014 in stellar style with her runway show at Sydney’s stylish Carriageworks last night.

Sleek and sexy black and white tailoring dominated Zampatti’s collection, but the monochrome motif was soon disrupted by bright and voluminous floor length gowns which added pops of colour.

With an impressive 49 years in the industry, the celebrated designer drew a celebrity studded crowd to premiere her collection.

Singer Paula Abdul, designer Terry Biviano and models, Jesinta Campbell and Nikki Phillips sat front row.

AWW fashion editor, Mattie Cronan, said the fluid silk shirts, column skirts and bell bottom pants were her favourite pieces in the collection.

Sleek and feminine silhouettes were coupled with bold accessories.

The models dewy moist skin glistened down the runway.

The war between feminine and masculine was evident on the runway.

Fierce pops of colour dominated the range.

Interesting fabrics and textures added extra allure to the colourful pieces in Spring-Summer line.

Sweeping floor length gowns were sexed up with thigh-high flesh flashing splits.

The cobalt blue full-bodied sheer skirt was a hit as it bounced down the runway.

Black lace pants were a nod to edgy elegance.

The minimalist range was matched by the sparse and clinical space created at Sydney’s Carriageworks.

Space-inspired perspex masks adorned the models, adding a futuristic element to the Zampatti runway.

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge start their New Zealand tour

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have started their official tour of New Zealand, arriving in Wellington with Prince George just after 12pm.
Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince George in New Zealand

Prince William, Kate and eight-month old Prince George arrived in a Royal New Zealand Air Force plane at Wellington just after 12pm (local time).

Kate looked stunning in a red Catherine Walker coat and Gina Foster hat as she carried Prince George down the steps with Prince William by her side.

The Duchess also wore a fern brooch given to the Queen by the women of Auckland during her 1953 trip.

The royals were greeted by Prime Minister John Key, his wife Bronagh and Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown and her husband Alistair Nicholson on the tarmac before setting off for Government House, where they will be based for the duration of their stay.

The Duke and Duchess made their way across the front lawn where the kapa haka group performed a traditional welcome.

Hordes braved the rain and wind hoping to catch a glimpse of William, Kate and George.

Among the crowd was Plunket nurse, Grace Kelly, 25, and her nine-month-old son, Oliver Brodie. Oliver was due at a similar time to George but arrived early on June 18. Prince George was born on July 22.

Grace, a royal enthusiast, has watched the milestones of Kate’s pregnancy and George’s life so far with keen interest, sharing the joy and exhaustion that comes with new parenthood.

“I have a lot of respect for Kate. I imagine touring with a baby this age would be really hard work,” cuddling her little man who she estimates to be about the same size as the Prince.

With Oliver rugged up in a beanie and jacket, Grace arrived at Government House at 10.30am, an hour and 45 minutes before the royals expected arrival.

Huddled under a rainbow-coloured umbrella, Grace was rewarded for her patience. “We had a really good spot and Kate waved right at us,” she said.

Grace was buzzing with excitement following the encounter and plans to attend as many events as possible while the Duke and Duchess are in her home city.

The royal couple and hopefully baby George too are due to meet Plunket nurses and parents at a special parents and babies meet and greet on Wednesday at Government House.

Prince William last visited New Zealand in 2011 to tour areas of Christchurch devastated by the earthquake, but this is the first trip to the country for Kate.

The royals will spend nine days in New Zealand, before arriving in Sydney on April 16 for a 10-day tour in Australia.

Shanina Shaik: Bullied teen to catwalk queen

It wasn’t too long ago that top model Shanina Shaik found herself the victim of nasty schoolyard bullying.
Shanina Shaik Victoria's Secret

It might be hard to believe that a few years ago one of Australia’s rising supermodels was bullied so badly she was too scared to go to school.

Six years ago Melbourne-born Shanina Shaik took a chance on herself and entered reality TV show, Make Me A Supermodel making it to the finals, only to come runner up.

But the model seems to have a knack for taking everything in her leggy stride. Since her reality TV show defeat the 23-year-old has transformed from a shy and bullied teen to a top model with a lucrative career as a Victoria’s Secret angel.

Even with all her successes a down-to-earth Shanina hasn’t forgotten the schoolyard taunts she had to overcome.

“I was about 14 years old and I was dealing with these girls who I thought were my friends,” the New York based model revealed in a recent interview. “It was emotionally bullying, which was hard for me to understand at that age because I thought bullying was a physical act, like being taunted and beaten up.”

Shaik, who has been dubbed the next Adriana Lima, has spent four seasons in New York working for some of the world biggest brands including Chanel, Stella McCartney, Tom Ford and L’Wren Scott.

The top model is back in Australia this week strutting her stuff for Fashion Week in Sydney. But before she hit the catwalks she attended the Polo in the Valley event in Perth which raised funds for youth suicide prevention charity Youth Focus, an organisation which is close to the model’s heart.

“I know for me not having a lot of knowledge and not knowing what bullying was, how to deal with it and overcome it, I felt really embarrassed and alone at the time,” she says. “No one should ever feel like that.”

Shanina has become a catwalk queen over her short career.

The model first started working with Victoria’s Secret in 2011 and here she struts her stuff on the catwalk for them in 2012.

Monaco’s royalty to boycott Grace Kelly biopic

Prince Albert and his sisters are said to be incensed about the “inaccuracies” in the film about their mother.
Princess Charlene and Prince Albert.

It’s no secret that the Grace of Monaco filmmakers have clashed with the European monarchy over the project. Prince Albert is said to be not only furious about the film’s portrayal of his mother but also, of his father, Prince Rainier.

The movie stars Kidman as Kelly and Tim Roth as Rainier. Set in 1962, the film explores the life former Hollywood star, Grace Kelly and her personal crisis of having to choose between returning to her life as a celebrated film star or embracing her new role as a royal in the world’s second smallest country.

According to reports, Albert is worried that the film vilifies his father and unfairly paints him as a controlling husband.

Grace Kelly and Nicole Kidman do have some striking similarities.

Kidman has spoken out in defence of the film and insists that it is only inspired by the Princess and is not intended to be a biographical account.

“This is not a biopic or a fictionalised documentary of Grace Kelly,” she said. “But only a small part of her life where she reveals her great humanity as well as her fears and weaknesses.”

In January 2013 – apparently after being shown a copy of the script – Grace Kelly’s children, Albert, Caroline and Stephanie, released a statement distancing themselves from the movie.

“We have had absolutely no association with this project which is claims to be about the lives of our parents,” the statement read.

“For us, this film does not constitute a biographical work, but portrays only a part of her life and has been pointlessly glamorised, and contains important historical inaccuracies as well as scenes of pure fiction.”

There are also clashes between the film’s director, Olivier Dahan and the film’s US distributors, The Weinstein Company.

Dahan claims Harvey Weinstein had pressured him to agree to a separate edit for the US market. Dahan has reportedly lashed out saying: “there are two versions of the film . . . mine and his, which I find catastrophic.”

Grace was one of the world’s most famous movie stars before she turned her back on Hollywood to marry Monaco’s Prince Rainier III in 1956. She died in 1982 from a car accident after suffering a stroke while driving.
