Pete Evans and fiancée Nicola Robinson.

The My Kitchen Rules judge described his proposal as a “beautiful moment” when he popped the question to his 37-year-old girlfriend in New York.

The pair met in Adelaide three years ago and according to Robinson it was an impromptu proposal. The reality star from New Zealand told New Idea, that the sweet moment brought on a flood of happy tears.

“There we were in New York talking away and I said: ‘Gosh if we ever get married, taking our loved ones on holiday would be a wonderful way to do it,” Robinson said.

The model says she was “overwhelmed with love” when Pete’s response to her wedding daydreams was “right, let’s do it, let’s get married.”

“We’d never really thought about marriage — it wasn’t top of our agenda — but we love each other and we’re committed to each other and our family, so we thought let’s be traditional and make it official,” added Evans. “It seemed like the right thing to do at the right time”.

While the spontaneous moment meant there was no ring the loved up couple plan on purchasing an enviable pounamu (greenstone) ring when they are next in New Zealand and they are wasting no time in planning possible new additions to their family.

“We would definitely love to be blessed with more children in our lives one day,” said Robinson, who is step mum to Evans’ two daughters, Chilli, 9, and Indii, 7, from a previous relationship.

“If it happens, wonderful. If not, I’m very lucky to be sharing Chilli and Indii’s lives.”

The healthy pair plan to marry early next year after launching their new online health and fitness program, The Paleo Way.

Finding the perfect work/life balance

Striking a balance between work and play can be a challenging task, particularly for new mums.

Striking a balance between work and play can be a challenging task, particularly for new mums. According to The Big Squeeze, more than 27 percent of women working full time are dissatisfied with the juggle of their home and office life – a figure almost double that recorded in 2008. Our experts offer their advice to improve every aspect of your wellbeing:

Eat Better

A study by Weight Watchers discovered that 72% of Australian meals are consumed while doing other things, such as working at your desk, reading, texting or watching TV – a common habit that can lead to overeating.

Distance yourself from these distractions at lunch and practise mindfullness by tasting and smelling your food. Chew for longer and put down your utensils between bites to enjoy the flavours.

Plan Meals

Performing a quick online search for healthy, simple meals will yield loads of nutritious recipes that can be ready and served in less than 30 minutes.

Plan your weekly menu before you go shopping and write your grocery list accordingly. Additionally, pack healthy lunches and snacks for work the night before to help avoid impulse snacking on junk food. A slow cooker can be used to prepare meals while you’re asleep or at work, and freezing portions for future use makes for some very easy eating.

Be Active With Your Kids

“When you’re not working, shopping, cleaning, cooking or ironing, there’s little time left for family,” says Professor Brown, director of the Centre for Research on Exercise, Physical Activity and Health (CREXPAH). “So try to be active when your kids are being active.

“Instead of watching them play in the park, get involved by hitting or kicking a ball around.”

Get Moving

Sedentary jobs can contribute to weight gain and negatively impact your wellbeing. To combat this, try building exercise into your normal working day, rather than turning it into yet another ‘to do’ on your list.

“Ride or walk to work, take the stairs, go to the gym at lunchtime or have walking meetings on the job,”  says Professor Barbara Pocock, work/life balance expert at the University of South Australia. “You can incorporate physical activity into family and social events as well.”

‘Me’ Time

“Making time for yourself is usually the first thing that gets put aside when you’re juggling a job, kids and a busy household,” says Kate James, coach and mindfulness expert.

“Make sure you prioritise at least half an hour of every day for yourself, regardless of whether the house is tidy. Use this opportunity for your partner and kids to learn to manage without you. Think of it as good role modelling, rather than feeling guilty. You’ll be calmer, happier and nicer to be around.”

Additionally, it’s important to make time for your friends, too. “Activities that increase positive emotion, such as laughing and social connection are good for us,” advises Professor Pocock.

‘Check In’ With Family

The dining table is the ideal place to reconnect with your family, suggests Kate James, director of Total Balance career and life-coaching authority. Working mums often have a million things on their mental checklist, so enjoying your meal over conversations with your family is an important time to hear about your children’s and partner’s days, hopes, dreams and fears.

Holiday At Home

Even if you can’t afford to jet off to an exotic destination, you can take a break at your own address. Make the most of your local ‘tourist’ attractions: the beach, the park, a museum, an art gallery, or just lie in the backyard and read a good book.

Don’t Judge Yourself

If you feel stressed, look for reasons why you’re overwhelmed in order to combat your anxiety. Tanya Curtis, behaviour expert and director of Fabic behaviour specialist centre, advises us that striving for perfection can create anxiety.

Curtis says that one of the worst contributors to stress is to judge yourselves by comparing your achievements with that of others and to take on board what you think other people expect of you.

“Be kind to yourself and don’t focus on the negatives; celebrate your ‘good’ behaviours.”

Would you pose in a bikini to get fit?

Queensland fitness addict Sharny Kieser says middle-aged mums can get their sexy bodies back by posing for glamour shoots in bikinis.
Sharny Kieser.

Personal trainer and author Sharny – who describes herself as a “renegade fitness expert” on her website – says middle-aged mothers can really benefit from seeing themselves in sexy swimsuit pictures post-weightless because it will inspire them to maintain their diet and exercise.

“It opens up their subconscious and reminds them that anything is possible and they start to find themselves,” she told the Herald Sun.

Women who have posed for glamour shoots post-weightloss as seen in Sharny’s website.

The mother-of-four says too many women give up on their fitness goals once they enter motherhood and insists that images in a skimpy two-piece can remind them of the body they can have.

“Most women have given up on wearing a bikini by the time they become mums, so it’s great achieving something they had never thought possible,” she said.

One mum’s bikini body transformation captured in this steamy shoot seen on the fit mum’s website.

Sharny, 34, found herself in hot water earlier this year when she had a war of words with radio announcer and former Jenny Craig ambassador, Chrissie Swan who took offence to Kieser’s comments about fat people being lazy.

The tense interview went from bad to worse after Kieser answered yes to Swan’s question “Would you say that I am lazy?”

“You have been, but I have seen you change from being lazy to getting into exercise as well, so I’ve seen you change that mindset,” Kieser went on to say.

Swan retorted: “So you think raising three children and working sometimes 14 hours a day is lazy?”

Kieser said: “I think that not fitting in exercise and not being active with your kids and trying to teach them a healthy lifestyle is definitely not the right way to go, yeah.”

Sharny’s ‘Before and After’ shots on her website.

As the author of FAT kids: help your child to escape the obesity epidemic – which sells for $1 on Amazon – Kieser has faced criticism from detractors who say she is only focusing on vein ideals of fitness and not overall health and well-being.

Physiotherapist and pilates instructor Becky Dyer, of Body Beyond Birth, told news.com.au she doesn’t “talk much about the way people look”.

“We talk about being strong. Being strong is a lot more important than rocking a bikini,” she said.

“Everyone deserves to look great and feel great and they don’t need to be in a bikini to do this,” Ms Dyer said.

However, Kieser says getting dolled up for a glamour shot is only empowering for women.

“People might think it’s superficial but it gives a woman a whole new level of strength, and they inspire those around them,” she said.  “It’s not about what you look like, it’s the process of achieving your goal.”

Queensland based Kieser is currently pregnant with her fifth child due in July.

Now, three years on, the Prince returns – this time with his lady in red by his side.

The couple have spent most of this morning touring the city, which was ravaged by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in February 2011.
