Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince George land in Sydney

William, Kate and gorgeous George have touched down in Sydney to begin their 10-day Australian tour.

The royal trio disembarked from their special RAAF plane at around 2.35pm and were met on the tarmac by new Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove, Governor of NSW Marie Bashir and Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

Kate looked stunning, as usual, in a bright yellow Roksanda Ilincic dress, while George was absolutely adorable in a tiny white outfit.

George will head straight to Admiralty House with his nanny while William and Kate will spend the afternoon at the Sydney Opera House where they will attend an official reception for young people excelling in the arts, sport, volunteering, health and education.

They will then meet members of the public on the Man o’War steps before embarking a police boat to travel to Admiralty House for the evening.

Tomorrow, the Duke and Duchess will travel to the Blue Mountains.

Governor-General Peter Cosgrove’s wife Lynn was besotted with little George.

Kate’s dress was chosen because it’s “Aussie gold”.

“Australia is an inspiring place, as this amazing Opera House shows so vividly, and I know that a truly unforgettable few days lie ahead,” the Duke said.

“The affection that my grandmother The Queen has for this nation is infectious,” William said.

William joked George’s first word might be “bilby” but “only because ‘koala’ is harder to say”.

“Catherine and I were very grateful for the many kind messages and gifts from across the country that we received when George was born,” William said.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s puppy love

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent the last day of their royal tour of New Zealand visiting the Police College where they nursed puppies and payed their respect to fallen officers.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent the last day of their royal tour of New Zealand visiting the Royal New Zealand Police College in Porirua, near Wellington.

Prince William and his wife paid their respects to the 29 officers of New Zealand Police who have been killed during the course of their duties over the past 127 years.

Cheers could be heard as the royal convoy made its way into the college and in typical Kiwi style the heavens opened just as Kate and William stepped out to receive a traditional Maori greeting and watch music from the Police Kapa Haka group.

The Duke and Duchess – who wore a navy skirt suit by local designer Rebecca Taylor –seemed quite taken with the police puppies and Kate was gifted a toy police dog for Prince George.

The royal pair then travelled to Wellington Airport, where they boarded a flight to Sydney with baby Prince George.

The Duke and Duchess meet New Zealand’s newest recruits.

New Zealand’s weather certainly didn’t hold back during the royals visit of the Royal New Zealand Police College, which was originally opened by William’s father, The Prince of Wales in 1981.

The Duchess delighted fashion fans by sporting a navy skirt suit by local designer Rebecca Taylor.

Kate was given a toy police dog for Prince George who was absent from the rainy affair.

Kate and William laid a wreath in memory of the fallen under a wall of remembrance.

The Duke and Duchess were excited to be presented with the cute recruits.

The puppies, no doubt, had the royal pair missing their own dog, Lupo. The beloved pup has so far appeared in two royal portraits of the couple and their son, Prince George.

Barry O’Farrell resigns as Premier

In a shock press conference he said he accepted the consequences of his “massive memory fail” after the Independent Commission Against Corruption revealed he was sent the bottle by the boss of Australian Water Holdings boss Nick Di Girolamo.

Under oath Mr O’Farrell said he did not recall receiving the bottle despite evidence to suggest he may have called Mr Di Girolama to thank him for the gift.

However it emerged this morning that he sent a signed thank you card, forcing his resignation.

“This has clearly been a significant memory fail on my part,” he said. “I accept the consequences of my actions.”

The resignation comes in the same week the successful Premier announced a massive plan to build a second airport at Badgerys Creek after decades of inaction.

In a snap press conference shortly after 10am he made the brief statement.

“I can’t explain what happened to that bottle of wine,” he said. “I do accept that there is a thank you note signed for by me.

“The evidence I presented in ICAC yesterday was true, to the best of my knowledge. In no way did I seek to mislead, wilfully or otherwise, the Independent Commission Against Corruption.

“There has clearly been a significant memory fail on my part.”

Treasurer Mike Baird and Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian were immediately identified as potential replacements.

Mr O’Farrell who took over from Labor in a landslide win in March 2011 has continued to enjoy considerable electoral appeal after a tumultuous period under the previous premier Kristina Keneally.

“I accept the consequences of my actions and that is that as soon as I can organise a meeting of the parliamentary liberal party early next week, I will be resigning the position, enabling a new leader to be elected to become the Premier of NSW,” Mr O’Farrell said.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s luxury hotel in Uluru

Prince William may be spending Monday night in a tent with his wife, but the couple won't be roughing it like his parents did back in 1983 when they visited Uluru.
Prince William and Kate Middleton Uluru

THE motel, which was later referred to as “the Palace in Alice” reportedly had horses tied to the surrounding fence and no poolside furniture. But it was good enough for Diana and Charles on March 20 after the area’s glamourous casino resort – which originally made the itinerary – was damaged in a monsoon.

While Diana and Charles were given the only two suites of the hotel during their stay – valued at $117 each – Kate and Wills will be ‘glamping’ at Longitude 131 in one of the $1100 per night luxury tents. The couple can dine under the stars and wake up to the sun rising over Australia’s red centre.

They won’t be paying any visits the Gap Motor Hotel in Alice Springs though, which was turned into an apartment block of 48 units 14 months ago under the National Rent Affordability Scheme.

But the two suites inhabited by the late Princess Di and Prince Charles haven’t been forgotten.

The front doors of both apartments are decorated with plaques. One stating, ‘The Residence of Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales in March 1983’ is now lived in by a New Zealand family of six.

The other, named ‘Lady Di’s’ is now home to apartment block managers, Michael and Danielle English, their daughter Gabby and two grandchildren. And how does it feel to live in a one royal residence? “You feel good about it, especially living in Lady Di’s because she was such a lovely person. We’ve still even got the lounge. It’s about 21-years-old and still in good knick,” Danielle said.

The signs at the Gap Motor Hotel.

But royal excitement hasn’t flowed into the town as it’s a four-hour drive from Uluru.

“It would be nice if they did surprise us and visit,” Danielle said.

Royal duties aside, the evening at Longitude 131 will be a romantic one for the couple. It will be the only night in the Australian tour that the new parents will spend without their eight-month-old.

Prince George will be residing at Government House in Canberra with his nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo.

On Tuesday, his parents will visit the National Indigenous Training Academy and have afternoon tea with The Chief Minister of the Northern Territory at the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre café. They will walk the base of Uluru just before sunset.

Kate Ceberano lends her voice to the cause in the #itouchmyselfprojects video.

ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, Little Pattie, is Amphlett’s cousin and belts out her original tune to show support for the cause.

Many royal fans were delighted last week when they saw Kate, 32, grab her husband’s arm, hold hands and even make jokes with him after her team beat him in a friendly sailing race in Auckland Harbour last week.

In addition to the pair’s glances and tender smiles toward each other, there have been some larger public displays of affection during their tour Down Under that have reminded many royal watchers that despite their titles, Prince William and his wife are just like many young couples in love.

As we wait for the Duke and Duchess to arrive in Australia with eight-month-old Prince George, we reflect on some of the pair’s sweet moments throughout their very public relationship.
