‘Snatched’ toddler in close contact with ‘violent’ men

Murdered toddler Sanaya Sahib was in “close contact” with two men facing serious criminal charges in the week before her death.

Two days after the 15-month-old’s body was found, it has emerged her short life was one of “dysfunction and violence”.

The Age has reported Sanaya was in “close contact” with two violent men in the week before she died.

One of the men is reportedly charged with serious domestic violence offences, including assault with a weapon. Neither man can be named for legal reasons.

Police are still searching for the man Sanaya’s mother Sofina Nikat claims snatched her daughter from her pram as she walked in Melbourne’s popular Olympic Park on Saturday morning.

But they are also expected to examine Sanaya’s relationship with the above mentioned men.

Earlier today, it was reported an autopsy had revealed Sanaya was smothered to death.

The Herald Sun also claimed an ambulance had been called to treat Sanaya one week before her body was found in a nearby creek.

7 reasons you should use Microsoft OneNote for your business

Forget any other applications when doing business work – OneNote has it all.

If Microsoft had a best-kept secret, it would be OneNote. Although backed by the world’s biggest software publisher and included for a decade in most versions of Microsoft’s mighty Office suite, it’s still often upstaged by other note-taking apps, such as the ever-popular Evernote.

Yet OneNote has evolved into a powerful information capture, management and sharing application that can be used for a wide variety of purposes. It’s available for just about any recent computer or mobile device – and best of all, it’s free.

An example of its potential can be found in the education sector, which uses OneNote tools to create shared notebooks with lessons and homework for classes, and to integrate with learning management systems.

It can be also be a very useful business tool, as the following seven tips reveal.

More than a note-taking app

OneNote uses a simple notebook metaphor, allowing you to have any number of notebooks, tabs within each notebook and pages within each tab. But it’s not just for taking notes. OneNote has rich editing tools that let you format text, add pictures and tables to each page, attach files, draw illustrations and link to other OneNote pages.

You can also add to-do lists that can be easily turned into Outlook tasks with reminders. OneNote includes a range of templates for quickly creating more complex pages, such as project tasks and meeting notes, and you can create your own templates.

Anywhere, any time

OneNote can be accessed on a wide range of devices via a web app and Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage service. It’s also available as apps for Windows, Mac, iPad, iPhone, Android and Chromebook. The mobile apps lack some of the advanced features of the Windows version, but they are still very useful – allowing you, for example, to take and insert photos and audio recordings into notes.

They also support “digital ink”, so your handwritten notes (ideally with a stylus for better accuracy) are searchable within the app.

A mobile scanner

A free OneNote companion app for iPhone, Android and Windows Phone, Office Lens is effectively a mobile scanner. Using your phone’s camera, it can scan receipts, other printed material and even text written on a whiteboard – capturing them into OneNote, making them searchable or even converting them into Word documents or PowerPoint slides. Office Lens can also scan business cards and turn them into contacts on your phone.

Audio and video notes

For those simply looking to take notes, OneNote does an excellent job. The desktop version will make audio recordings that align with your written (or typed) notes of meetings, much like the Livescribe smartpen, as covered in our June 2015 edition.

Clicking a small play button next to a line of text in a OneNote page takes you straight to that part of the recording. Video recordings work the same way, which could be handy for capturing slides in presentations, although this requires a laptop with a rear camera.

Researching and blogging

Evernote still holds an advantage, thanks to its large selection of third-party add-ons and its powerful Web Clipper browser plug-in for capturing web pages. However, OneNote’s ecosystem of add-ons is increasing, and it has some handy research tools of its own – including its improved OneNote Clipper plug-in, Feedly add-on that saves articles from the newsfeed service to OneNote and the option to email items to your OneNote pages. There’s even a WordPress plug-in that can publish OneNote pages on your blog.

A powerful collaboration tool

Like the rest of Office 2016, the latest version of OneNote has improved collaborating tools. Teams can share OneNote notebooks and colleagues can add to, edit or annotate pages. You can quickly see who’s been working on a page and what changes they have made, and you can also create and share meeting notes from within Outlook appointments.

Integrating Excel spreadsheets

OneNote pages let you attach files from Word and other Office documents or include them as “printouts”. You can also embed Excel and Visio files, allowing you to edit or create new spreadsheets or diagrams from within OneNote, with any changes automatically reflected in the original Excel or Visio file.

Strangely, it doesn’t embed Word documents or other Office files. Still, this is a handy feature for creating shared notebooks with spreadsheets to, say, track team expenses or sales targets.

Slimming pills nearly kill teen

A 19-year-old claims her herbal diet pills brought her close to death after they made her throw up so much her stomach lining ripped.

A 19-year-old girl claims she nearly died after taking herbal diet pills that made her throw up so much they ripped her stomach lining.

In August, Taylor Hannah wanted to get into shape (the medication she was on for her bipolar disorder made her weight balloon) so she bought green tea extracts and fat metabolisers from supplement store Holland & Barrett.

After she’d been taking the pills for six months, she was rushed to hospital from severe dehydration.

“No amount of water would fix it. I was drinking up to six or seven litres of water a day and nothing helped. Doctors told me the caffeine from the diet pills could have caused the dehydration,” Taylor, from Scotland, said.

“I almost died … and needed to be put on a fluid drip due to excessive vomiting. I was really ill, couldn’t move and had chest pains.”

“I have now found out they have torn my stomach lining.”

The pills were Nature’s Garden green tea extract and Nutrition HQ’s fat metabolisers.

She lost almost half of her body weight from just taking the pills and being unwell, she lost even more.

A spokesperson for Holland & Barrett said: “All our products are manufactured to the highest standards, used by tens of thousands of people every day.”

“We have never received a complaint of this kind from these products before.”

They continued: “Certain products we sell, including weight management supplements, do carry an on-pack warning instructing customers to consult their GP if, for example, they are already taking prescribed medicines.”

“Clearly we are concerned to hear of any customer reportedly becoming unwell, and we would always urge customers to seek advice from our team of nutritionists or trained store staff.”

Taylor later found out that just one green tea tablet is equivalent to five cups of green tea.

She says she can only have milk and yogurt, as other food or drinks can cause her stomach to swell and make her sick.

How Kate stays so slim

She’s had two children but is slimmer than ever before – and now Kate has revealed her one big secret.

If the Duchess of Cambridge was shocked to be asked for dieting advice at yesterday’s garden party in Delhi, she didn’t show it.

Kate was chatting to party guest Prof Bulbul Dhar-James, who teaches political science at Jamia Mellia Islamia university, when he asked her secret to looking so trim.

“We said ‘how do you lose all the weight after having two kids?'” And she said, “I am running after my kids,” Dhar-James revealed afterwards.

Dhar-James asked her how she kept cheery through all the engagements. “I asked her ‘aren’t you tired of smiling?’ And she said ‘I’m just reciproccating. Everyone is so warm,'” Dhar-James adds.

“They were both really gracious. She was so welcoming and warm. We told her ‘You look much better in person than in your photographs.'”

Kate looked stunning at the event, choosing a $5600 white Alice Temperley dress embroidered in black, her hair worn down in soft waves.

The party was in honour of the Queen’s upcoming 90th birthday. But this was a garden party with a difference.

Whereas Buckingham Palace events usually serve mini sandwiches, slices of cake and tea, the lawn was ringed with stalls serving Hendrick’s gin, Johnny Walker black label whisky, Chivas brandy and Jacob’s Creek Chardonnay or Shiraz Cabernet.

And as the guests arrived, they were entertained by traditional Indian music and could choose nibbles and canapes from Murg Malai Tikka, Aloo Sabutdana Ki Tikki, as well as a nod to British tastes with apple Stilton Welsh Rarebits, mini beer battered fish and chips and shepherd’s pie tartlets.

After the speeches Kate and William departed for a well-deserved “private evening” together when no doubt they’ll be checking in on George and Charlotte who remain at home in London.

How often should you shower?

According to science, it's not as often as you might think.

For most of us, having a hot shower is a part of our daily routine.

However, a new study claims that it might not be as important as you think.

Scroll down for video

Researchers at Colombia University have revealed that washing too frequently can dry out and crack your skin which allows bacteria and other microbes into your body.

On top of that, you’re also washing off the natural oils your skin produces.

“People think they’re showering for hygiene or to be cleaner, but bacteriologically, that’s not the case,” Dr. Elaine Larson, an infectious disease expert at Columbia University School of Nursing told TIME.

Dr. C. Brandon Mitchell, assistant professor of dermatology at George Washington University, also agrees that most people over-nathe.

So what’s the ideal shower frequency?

Well, in terms of your health – and not how you look or smell – probably once or twice a week.

“Your body is naturally a well-oiled machine,” he said.

“A daily shower isn’t necessary.”
