Mum defends shaving 6yo daughter’s legs

They both suffer from a condition called hirsutism, a male-pattern of hair growth in women.

A mum has defended herself for saying yes to her six-year-old daughter when she asked if she could shave her legs.

Lynn Adams and her daughter Margot both have a condition called hirsutism, which creates a male-pattern of hair growth in women.

When Margot asked her mum if she could shave them, Lynn did it for her that very night.

“Margot was born hairier than most babies, with a fine black down on her back and legs,” she told Cosmopoliton.

“It was the kind of soft wool hair invisible to a casual observer but noticeable under a bathroom’s harsh light.”

Hirsutism affects one in 20 women, and it affects both sides of Margot’s family.

“I regularly wax a patch of hair on my neck that is too low to be a goatee, too high to be chest hair,” explains Lynn.

Lynn is defending criticism that her daughter is too young to shave, saying that she herself first shaved her legs at the age of 12, but she wanted to do it much earlier than that.

Lynn’s own mother was initially opposed to the idea when Lynn asked her as a young girl. “I wanted some relief, but my mother thought I was growing up too fast.”

When she did shave, she “instantly felt prettier. Stronger, even.”

Lynn wanted the same for her daughter, but was adamant she’d never pressure her.

“I wondered, though: If I let Margot shave her legs, would I make her more self-conscious later on? Would her friends notice? Would my friends notice?,” she said.

“None of that mattered. When it came to beauty, Margot’s own opinion was the most important. To this day, I wait for her to ask every time I shave her legs.”

“I don’t do it if she doesn’t ask. That turns out to be about every four months.”

“By shaving Margot’s legs, I gave her the power I lacked as a young girl. I don’t want to add to the social pressure to be beautiful.”

Queensland sex offender who lured girl, 10, set to walk free

A woman who used her young son to lure a 10-year-old girl into her home so her husband could rape her is poised to be released from prison.

Jan-Maree Farrenkothen was jailed in 2003 after she was found to have used her son to trick the victim, who was just 10, into coming to “play” at the Gladstone house she shared with her husband Jurgen ‘Terry’ Farrenkothen.

Once the girl was inside, Jan-Maree lured her upstairs where she was handcuffed, gagged and repeatedly raped by Terry over a number of days.

Police eventually found and rescued the girl but believe the couple would have killed her if she was not discovered.

Jan-Maree, now 55, is nearing the end of her 13-year sentence and nears release, but the Attorney General is fighting to keep her locked up, or impose severe conditions on her parole.

This week, 13 years since she was put away, he was knocked back.

Peter Davis QC said: “The real issue here is whether or not there will be a relapse.”

“The personality disorder continues. It’s a question of post-release control to avoid that.”

Forensic psychiatrist Michael Beech, who examined Jan-Maree last year in April, read out his risk assessment of the sex offender in court via video link, saying she had less than a 3% chance of reoffending, and only poses a risk of her dependent personality disorder.

“She needs (people) to feel better about herself, she needs them to meet an unmet desire for love and affection,” he said.

“I think once she gets released in the community that might be aggravated by isolation, loneliness and depression.”

Dr Beech believes that if she were to reoffend, it wouldn’t be sexual but general criminal, and that it would only happen in the company of, or under coercion from, a male partner.

She could be released by the end of the year, and plans to live in Brisbane.

Uber driver refuses blind passenger because dog would mess “$90K car”

An Uber driver has refused a fare from a blind passenger as he didn’t want to get his new $90, 000 car “messy” with the man’s guide dog.

Former disability discrimination commissioner Graeme Innes, 61, ordered a car through Uber to take him to pick up his daughter from a Sydney hospital, The Daily Telegraph reports.

However, when the driver arrive, he told Mr Innes that he could not take pets.

Mr Innes said he told the driver he was required to take guide dogs to which the driver responded, “No this is a new car, this is a brand-new car, it’s a $90,000 car, I can’t take animals in the car – it will just make it messy.”

The driver then cancelled the trip leaving Mr Innes to pay a fee and book another ride.

Yet when the next driver arrived, he also refused to take the dog but relented when told he was legally required to do so.

Mr Innes has since complained to the Australian Human Rights Commission as well as to Uber, who have refunded his cancellation fee and the cost of the second trip.

Has JonBenet Ramsey’s killer finally been found?

According to a new report from American publication InTouch, the murderer of child beauty JonBenet Ramsey has finally been unveiled.

It’s one of the most intriguing unsolved mysteries from the ’90s after JonBenet Ramsey was found dead in a bloody pool in the basement of her home on Boxing Day, 1996.

And now InTouch claim the six-year-old was killed by the hands of 26-year-old Michael Helgoth, whose family ran a junkyard near JonBenet’s hometown in Boulder, Colorado.

While this would be a huge breakthrough for the Ramsey family, Michael Helgoth took his own life in 1997.

The fresh claims have come from private investigator Ollie Gray, who was hired by the Ramsey family to work on the crime.

Ollie has been trying to crack the case for 20 years and told the publication: “Based on what we know now, I believe Helgoth and his accomplices committed the crime.”

Ollie and his former colleague John Kenady believe there is a tape recording in which Michael confesses to killing the beauty queen.

The pair allege the explosive video was overlooked in the investigation process but “someone close to him may still have the tape.”

In more disturbing claims, detective John revealed to InTouch that Michael once told him of a murder pact that he and a friend had devised to secure a large sum of money.

“In late November [1996] Helgoth had told me that he and a partner were going to make a great deal and they each would bring in around $50,000 to $60,000,” John said.

In a tragic turn of events, the focus soon shifted to JonBenet’s parents, Patsy and John. While there was never enough evidence to charge them, that didn’t stop the tide of public opinion turning against them. They were finally cleared of any involvement from her death in 2008.
