Melissa McCarthy’s “sentimental” return to Gilmore Girls

Speaking in a recent red carpet interview, the comedienne opened up about returning to Stars Hollow.
Melissa McCarthy

After relentless speculation about the Gilmore Girls reboot, Melissa McCarthy couldn’t be happier when she was finally able to reveal she was back on board.

And now, speaking to US Weekly at the TIME 100 Gala in New York on Tuesday, the 45-year-old spilled on her “sentimental” feelings of returning to the set that made her famous.

“I went back and visited about two weeks ago and saw the sets again and everybody on them and it just felt — oh, my God, I get so sentimental,” the actress dished.

“It felt like the greatest idea in the world. It was just lovely. It was just lovely.”

“I think [fans] are going to be really happy. I think they’re going to be thrilled,” she added to E! News.

The comedienne stunned on the red carpet in a silver blouse and figure-hugging black pencil skirt.

In news that had fans jumping for joy, Melissa – who played Lorelai’s clumsy pal Sookie St. James – officially confirmed on The Ellen Show earlier this month that she will indeed be returning to reprise her role, despite previous rumours that she was too “busy.”

“There has been something that I have been asked about so, so many times and it hasn’t worked out. They’re making four new movies of the Gilmore Girls which is a show which was near and dear to my heart for four years, and we could not get those schedules to work.”

“Literally about an hour and half ago we figured out that I’m gonna go back and do it and I am so excited,” she told Ellen excitedly before adding: “And they are gonna be amazing.”

See Melissa’s exciting announcement in the video player below! Post continues…

The much-loved original series ran for seven years from 2000 to its final episode in 2007.

The Netflix reboot will include four 90-minute episodes, telling the stories of the beloved characters from then, to now.

And from official photos released to Entertainment Weekly earlier this month, it looks as if a LOT has changed since the shows end.

The girls are back!

“I CAN NOW CONFIRM: it’s time for me, and this jacket I stole in 2007, to return to work,” Lauren Graham shared in preparation for filming.

Although minimal details of the reboot’s plot can be made out from the images, it appears as if Rory’s once-aspired career of becoming a journalist took a turn, as she stands in front of a classroom.

Eagle-eyed fans also spotted Luke Danes and Lorelai hand-in-hand, suggesting that the on-again off-again might well be ‘on again’.

Other cast favourites are set to appear alongside two brunette stars, including Paris Geller (Liza Weil), Dean Forester (Jared Padalecki), Milo Ventimiglia (Jess Mariano) Christopher Hayden (David Sutcliffe) and Emily Gilmore (Kelly Bishop), who’s now a widower.

A premiere date for the revival is yet to be confirmed, but one thing’s for sure – we simply cannot wait.

Mum told to breastfeed in toilet at Movie World

Yes, we are talking about breastfeeding in public again.

It’s been less than a month since we last wrote about breastfeeding in public.

And here we are again.

Sigh.

A Gold Coast mother has told the media that she is too embarrassed to breastfeed in public after an attendant at Movie World in the Gold Coast told her to feed her daughter in a toilet cubicle.

Mimi Lo says that since the incident, which happened two weeks ago, she has breastfed her daughter in her car, or driven home to feed in the privacy of her own home.

“I feel so ashamed, I feel like I’ve done something very wrong,’’ she told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“People were staring at me when it happened. I said, `Of course, I’m sorry’ to the man but when I went to the toilet it was dirty and I didn’t want to feed my baby there.”

“He wasn’t really talking directly to me because he didn’t want to see it. He was telling my mum who doesn’t even speak English saying I was only allowed to do it in the toilet.”

Movie World have since issued an apology, however it beggars belief that a member of staff at a supposedly family friendly theme park could be so miss-informed about the rights of breastfeeding mothers.

In Australia, women are legally allowed to breastfeed their babies anywhere that permits children.

And as lactation consultant Anna Quenault told The Weekly Online, demonising women that breastfeed in public creates a vicious circle.

“If more women were breastfeeding in public then it would be seen as normal. But the fear of a backlash puts a lot of women off breastfeeding in public altogether,” she explains.

Stories like Mimi Lo’s are frustratingly common. So common that stories like this are met with groans of “oh not this again”.

I sincerely hope that we will see the day that breastfeeding in public is considered normal and stories of breastfeeding mothers being told to cover up or feed in the toilets are a distant memory.

But this issue won’t go away on its own. And we owe it to breastfeeding mothers (and their hungry babies!) to keep talking about it until stories like Lo’s (and all the others we have reported) are well and truly a thing of the past.

Peta the koala crawls for the first time since being hit by car

Gorgeous little Peta is regaining her strength to go back out into the wild!

After being struck by a car two months ago, this week Peta the koala takes a step forward in her recovery at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital by beginning physiotherapy.

Scroll down for video

Pending her complete recovery, the koala will be let back into the wild within several weeks – thankfully the director of the hospital, Dr Rosie Booth, sees a bright future ahead.

”She’s such a beautiful koala with a very pert personality,” Rosie says. “She is very eager to get back to life in the wild and the whole team here at the Wildlife Hospital have been working very hard to get her to that point.”

At just 18 months old, Peta was hit by a car at Nymboida in New South Wales when leaving her mother’s care for the first time. After the accident, Peta required immediate emergency surgery and round-the-clock care as she suffered multiple fractures across her body.

Pins were inserted into Peta’s left leg to aid bone repair but now that they have been removed, Peta has begun her strengthening exercises to gain back the muscle power she’ll need in the wild.

Peta will be released back into the Nymboida area in several weeks, where, in good health, she will be able to breed and help fight against koala’s vulnerable population status.

You might recognise some of the moves in the video – barring the focus on getting Peta comfortable climbing trees again, Koala physio is pretty similar to its human counterpart.

“[Physiotherapy is] about improving mobility and function for improved quality of life with massage and manipulation, as well as a multitude of walking and climbing exercises,” says Rosie. “The only difference, I’d say, is how cute she looks doing it all.”

This story appeared on Australian Geographic.

Leonardo DiCaprio spotted cosying up to model Roxy Horner

Meet the handsome actor’s new leading lady!
Leonardo DiCaprio Roxy Horner

Has Hollywood’s iconic ladies’ man, Leonardo DiCaprio, found love with London-based model, Roxy Horner?

The Titanic actor was spotted “getting cosy” with the blonde beauty in New York City over the weekend.

The pair reportedly enjoyed a dinner with Leo’s pal Lukas Haas, and another blonde friend of Roxy’s at Manhattan restaurant Serendipity 3, where they indulged on chicken pot pie, frozen hot chocolate and a specialty sundae.

“They came in very low-key, all wearing baseball caps,” a source who witnessed the dinner told People magazine .

The 24-year-old model previously dated British television personality, Joey Essex.

“She was very attached to Leo. She was definitely with him, she was holding on to his arm. They were affectionate.”

The group of A-listers reportedly sat hidden away in a corner booth, but despite the baseball caps, eagle-eyed fans still managed to spot them before they left the venue.

“They had a great dinner and snuck out,” adds the source.

The pretty blonde has previously denied claims of a fling with the Hollywood star.

This dinner date isn’t the first time Roxy, 24, and Leo, 41, have sparked romance rumours.

In February this year, the two were rumoured to be dating after they were seen together at London’s Chiltern Firehouse.

Reports at the time speculated that the pair went back to Leo’s hotel suite at 2am, but the model was quick to deny these claims with a series of Tweet that have since been deleted.

Does Leo have a type? The Oscar-winner has a history of dating models.

“You can’t have a friend in the industry without people assuming it’s more than that…it’s a joke,” she wrote to her 9,000 followers.

In a second tweet, she addressed the rumours head on, and confirmed that she didn’t leave the event with Leonardo. “FYI we all went our separate ways home, as friends do.

But despite the denials, it’s clear – that like most of the world – stunning model has a crush on the Oscar-winner.

Throwback four years ago to 2012, Roxy shared her appreciation for Leo by posting a dashing black and white snap of the actor on her Twitter account, gushing in the caption.

“Leonardo DiCaprio is also the definition of sexy.”

Pregnant mum and burnt son ‘kicked out of hospital’

An eight-months pregnant woman and her horrifically burnt toddler were told to find their own way home in heavy rain with no coats or shoes.

A heavily pregnant mother is claiming her and her horrifically burnt child were thrown out of hospital and into the rain to find their own way home.

Toddler Kealan Perry-Bartlett, just 14-months-old, suffered serious burns when a cup of tea accidentally spilt onto his face, chest and arms.

His mum Navaeh, 35, rushed to the hospital with Kealan in an ambulance. Both were wearing no coats or coats as they were in such a hurry, but they were apparently promised patient transport home.

When Kealan was discharged from the hospital in Aylesbury, England, Neveah – who was eight months pregnant – was shocked when she learned she’d have to make her

own way home.

She was given a number for a taxi firm to organise her trip home. “I had no coat and was just wearing slippers, and Kealan had no coat either,” Nevaeh said. She initially thought they’d be staying overnight.

“I was frightened, confused, very lost, cold and had no easy way home. It was terrible.”

“I said it was ridiculous and they did give me a blanket for Kealan, but I’ve never been to Aylesbury before so I had no idea where I was going.”

“My husband had followed us over on his motorbike but obviously wasn’t able to take us back on that, so he gave me his credit card so I could get a ticket for the train home.”

After they were discharged, Nevaeh – who has two other children – walked to a local train station but it wouldn’t have got them home till 1am.

“There were drunks around so I was an emotional mess. I called my mum in a huge panic so she offered to pay for the taxi for me.”

She continued: “I am disgusted at our hospital services.”

“We were kicked out into the cold and just left to find our own way home.”

A spokesman for the NHS trust said: “We have taken Mrs Perry-Bartlett’s complaint extremely seriously and are currently looking into the matter with our staff to establish exactly what happened.

“We have options in place for transfer to and from hospital for patients who need it, and we will be working with Mrs Perry-Bartlett and our colleagues to understand whether there was anything we needed to have done differently.”

The late pop legend messaged friends on April 19 to tell them he was “in bad shape” and suffering from the disease, according to The National Enquirer.

His body was found at his Paisley Park estate on April 19, after telling fans on his final appearance on stage to “wait a few days before you waste your prayers.”

The Purple Rain singer’s death has rocked the music community and he’s being remembered by fans around the world.

“Doctors told Prince his blood count was unusually low and that his body temperature had dropped dangerously below the normal 98.6 degrees to 94 degrees,” a source told the publication.

“He was totally iron-deficient, very weak and often disoriented.”

“He rarely ate and when he did, it all came right back up.”

The magazine is claiming the 57-year-old contracted HIV in the ‘90s, and then was diagnosed with AIDS six months ago.

He refused medical treatment due to his Jehovah’s Witness faith.

On April 23, it was ruled that despite speculation, his death was not a suicide.

Official autopsy results are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

“What we have learned so far is that the power of sport is something unbelievably special.”

“We did the games and the British public – like always – came out in their thousands and supported something they did not know would be a success.”

“But the reason it was a success was these competitors and every single one of the spectators that came and watched and support them. That’s what it was – it was magical.”

Concluding, “‘These guys are legends. We are the lucky ones to be able to see them on the sporting field.”
