England's beloved Princess Charlotte celebrates her very first birthday. In celebration we look back at her stunning moments over the past year.
Princess Charlotte

On May 2, 2015 the world joined together in celebration the arrival of the new Princess of Cambridge.

In just 12 months, the perfectly poised Princess Charlotte has captured the heart of millions.

Equally as beloved by her family, her Granddad Prince Charles was very vocal, prior to her birth, admitting he was “hoping for a granddaughter!”

No doubt the British Royal Family and the Middletons will have a day filled with fun and love.

To mark the occasion, Duchess Catherine released four precious portraits of her beloved daughter.

In honour of the milestone, here is a look back at Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, Princess of Cambridge’s sweetest moments.

Talk about breathtakingly sweet! Duchess Catherine released four darling photos of her baby girl in celebration of her first birthday.

The shutterbug mama captured her little one’s sweetest moments and it looks like the young royal is mastering the walking business with ease.

Look at those pretty blue eyes… What a way to mark the milestone! “The Duke and Duchess are very happy to be able to share these important family moments, ahead of their daughter’s first birthday.

We hope everyone enjoys these lovely photos as much as we do,” the statement from the Royal Family read.

The royal one-year-old looks like a sweet cherub in this shot. The photos were taken in April at their Anmer Hall residence in Norfolk.

On May 2, 2015 the world joined together in celebration the arrival of the new Princess of Cambridge.

Princess Charlotte

Darling Princess Charlotte is simply adorable as she rings in her very first year.

Kensington Palace confirmed the exciting news in a very 21st century, taking to Twitter to announce that the Duchess of Cambridge had given birth to a healthy baby girl.

Introducing Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana…

Prince George is officially a big brother!

The fourth in line to the throne was a little beauty at her christening back in July last year.

Little Georgie was clearly confused by the newest addition to the family.

Shutterbug Catherine shared the first official shots of her two royal gems.

And cheeky George is completely smitten with his sweet sister.

Isn’t she beautiful!

The family-of-four couldn’t be happier! Wills once remarked, “No broken bones yet, but they’re trying. [They’re] running around, pushing things, jumping. Please tell me it gets easier!”

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge is so like her grandmother, the late Princess Diana (pictured on the left at her first birthday party). The pair share the same pretty almond eyes and rosy cherub cheeks (made famous by her big brother Prince George!)

But she’s also her mummy’s little Princess!

It’s safe to say that all around the world a collective “aww” could be heard when the Queen shared these stunning new portraits for her 90th birthday.

Snow bunnies! “I’m a lot more emotional than I used to be! “I never used to really get too wound up or worried about things, but now the smallest little things can get — I can feel — you well up a little bit more.” the father-of-two explained to British talk show hosts, Ant and Dec.

“Charlotte is very easy, she is sweet,” the royal father quipped last year.

But the Prince is already prepared for the girl drama, laughing he added, “All the fathers say, ‘Just you wait! When they get to 9, 10, 11, they go crazy.’”

Picture perfect!

No doubt the adorable siblings will get up to all sorts of mischief on the little Princess’ big day.

Offspring’s back! First look of season six

This is so exciting! Asher Keddie and Kat Stewart return to the set of the much-loved show.
Asher Keddie and Kat Stewart

She managed to keep her pregnancy a secret and now Offspring’s Kat Stewart is back to work with her little girl right by her side.

Kat and husband David Whiteley, who already have four-year-old son Archie together, welcomed Georgia, or Gigi as she’s affectionately known, on March 16.

The gang’s all back together! Kat was joined by her co-star Asher Keddie.

“I haven’t been hiding her. I’ve just been pottering around at home,” Kat, 43, recently explained in an interview with The Daily Telegraph.

“Gigi is a very pleasant surprise,” the star added of her second child.

With filming of Ten’s hit drama in full swing, Kat’s already stepping back into her beloved role.

The duo chatted between takes.

The actress, who plays Billie Proudman in the popular series, was pictured laughing with her on-screen sister as they made their way back to their trailers.

Actress Deborah Mailman, who will be reprising her role as Cherie Butterfield, was also seen on the set.

Kat rugged up in a blue dressing gown and slippers.

“It’s only been five weeks.
I wouldn’t normally go back to work this early but Offspring is a family,” she said, adding co-star Asher, 41, also takes her one-year-old son Valentino along.

“Archie was on set with me when he was really little and I’m doing the same with Gigi,” Kat explained.

“It’s a family-friendly atmosphere. I think it will only enrich the experience of doing the show having them around.”

In 2014, the actress said she had a great support network in her family, who help her with her son while she film.

“I am so lucky. Because David and I are both actors we have been able to make it work so that we can be home for him [Archie]. We haven’t had to use any sort of childcare. We have great family support,” she told The Herald Sun.

Meanwhile, fans are counting down the days until the sixth season of Offspring returns to our screens.

As for whether the AACTA award-winning talent has any similarities with her character Billie, Kat told The Sydney Morning Herald there are some slight overlaps.

“I like to think I’d be a lot more diplomatic, a lot less volatile. But with all the characters you play, you bring elements of yourself. Certain characters amplify certain qualities in you. You find a bit of yourself and it becomes exaggerated,” she mused.

Actress Deborah Mailman, who will be reprising her role as Cherie Butterfield, was also seen on the set.

Bali Nine Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran remembered

Families of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran have marked the one-year anniversary of their execution.
Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran

Today marks a year since Bali Nine duo Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were executed in Indonesia and the families of the two men are due to hold services to commemorate the somber occasion.

According to the SBS, Chan’s family have booked a Hillsong chapel in Sydney’s northwest on Friday while a private service is due to be held for Sukumaran on Saturday at the nearby DaySpring Church in Castle Hill.

Chan, 31, and Sukumaran, 34, were killed by firing squad with six other drug offenders on the island of Nusakambangan shortly after midnight on April 29, 2015, 10 years after they were caught smuggling heroin into Bali.

According to Andrew’s brother Michael Chan his family are still grieving the loss of their boy.

“(It) has been a roller coaster ride for the family to come to terms with the loss,” he told Reprieve Australia, a group fighting the death penalty.

“There has not been a day that has gone by that he is not in our thoughts. Countries need to look at ways to rehabilitate prisoners instead of executing them.”

Despite an intense public and political effort to try and save Andrew and Myuran – two men many believed had been rehabilitated in prison – the Australians were eventually put to death by the Indonesian government by gunfire – a killing that many of their supporters deemed cruel and senseless.

Febyanti Herewila, who wed Chan two days ahead of his execution, said it was her husband’s dying wish that the death penalty be abolished globally.

Both Andrew and Myuran became fully rehabilitated during their ten years in prison.

“People make mistakes especially when you are young like him,” she told Reprieve Australia.

“Also Andrew wants the young people from around the world to learn from his life.”

Andrew became a pastor while he was in prison – it’s believed he and Myruan were the two who began singing Amazing Grace when the death row inmates were lead out of their cells in the dark to face the firing squad.

Apart from being devoted to his newfound Christianity, Chan was an obsessive rugby league fan – a supporter of the Penrith Panthers.

Michael Chan – a Canterbury Bulldogs devotee – said the NRL season was yet another reminder of the loss of his brother.

“I miss the good old banter we used to have,” he says. “This time of year, he’d be telling me how good his team is. I’d be telling him how shit his team is.”

Since the Bali duo were killed there has been a mandate on executions and no one has been killed by firing squad in Indonesia, although according to Amnesty International 121 remain on death row.

One dead and two injured in Bankstown shooting

Police are hunting the gunman who opened fire on three people in a cafe at Bankstown Central Shopping centre in broad daylight.

CCTV footage has shown a suspected getaway car escaping the scene after a man was shot dead in the carpark of the Bankstown Central Shopping Centre this afternoon.

In the footage, a white Mercedes was driving down a nearby street with a white hatchback tailing it. Both cars were found burnt out in Greenacre.

Police believe the Mercedes drove into the carpark of the shopping centre at 11.50am, where a gunman got out of the car and went to a café before shooting at three people.

Eight gun shots were fired, which left one man dead and a woman and man injured.

The man who died at the scene is believed to be Walid “Wally” Ahmad, 40, a convicted criminal linked to a recent fatal shooting at a smash repairer in Condell Park.

A woman, 31, who is believed to be Ahmad’s girlfriend, plus another man, 60, were both shot in the legs and have been taken to Liverpool hospital.

Police are on the hunt for the gunman, who they do not believe acted alone. No arrests have been made.

“It’s clearly targeted. This isn’t a random shooting. It is clearly targeted towards the man who has died as a result of the gunshot wounds,” Detective Superintendent David Eardley told 9NEWS.

“I can assure the Bankstown and neighbouring communities not to be concerned about this incident – it’s clearly a targeted shooting,” he said.

“As I was parking my car, I heard gun shots. I went upstairs and there were three on the floor, two guys and a girl,” a witness told 9News of the horrific scene.

“There was a guy lying in a pool of blood. They were trying to revive him, but he [had] passed away already.”

How to get pregnant

Of course we all know about the birds and the bees, but there is a bit more to getting pregnant than just getting your leg over.

The Weekly Online spoke to Dr Joseph Sgroi, obstetrician and spokesperson for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, to bring you some expert tips.

When trying to get pregnant the most obvious thing is to have sex. However, Dr Sgroi says that it’s crucial to have vaginal intercourse. “Don’t laugh,” he says. “Some people don’t know that.”

The next thing, according to Dr Sgroi is to have good sperm.

“We need to have adequate sperm numbers. We know that the semen parameters have decreased over time, so it’s important to maintain a good healthy lifestyle,” he explains.

Next on the list is to have what Dr Sgroi describes as a “good receptive uterus.”

“You need a uterus that is normal, looks normal, and doesn’t have any structural abnormalities. You need a uterus that wants to fall pregnant,” he explains.

Dr Sgroi notes that conditions such as endometriosis can affect a couples chances of falling pregnant.

Quite crucially, in order to get pregnant a woman needs to be ovulating.

“A lot of women will use ovulation kits and monitor their cycle so that they know exactly when they are ovulating,” he explains.

Finally, Dr Sgroi says that you need “open tubes”.

“That’s where fertilisation occurs. The ovary releases an egg and the sperm travels through the vagina and the uterus and up the fallopian tubes towards the egg,” he explains.

This means that if the tube is damaged then the chances of falling pregnant decrease.

There are a few factors that can impact the fallopian tubes, for example STI’s and past surgery.

Dr Sgroi says that in his opinion the the most important factor in getting pregnant is patience.

“If you are a young couple trying to fall pregnant for the first time then there is no need to rush out and get everything checked. You just need a bit of time,” he says.

If you are actively trying to get pregnant, Dr Sgroi says it’s important to time sexual intercourse within the fertility window.

In a nutshell, if a woman has a regular 28 day cycle she will ovulate around day 14 of her cycle.

“I recommend that couples have sex every other day from day ten to day twenty. That will cover any fluctuation in ovulation.”

While women in TV shows and movies can often be seen lying down with a pillow under their bum after sex, Dr Sgroi says that this wont increase your chances of getting pregnant.

“Our bodies are quite wonderful in getting the sperm to where they need to be,” he says.

So when should you seek help? Dr Sgroi says that if you are a young healthy couple with no concerns about your fertility then you should give it at least 12 months before consulting a professional.

If you are over 35 then your chances of falling pregnant could be slightly lower, so it might be worth checking in with your GP when you decide to start trying.

At the end of the day though, Dr Sgroi says that couples should try and relax and enjoy the process.

“Don’t be ruled by your ovulation calendar,” he says. “Try and enjoy being with your partner.”

How best to motivate yourself into going for a run

You won’t need an excuse if you’re actually enjoying it!
Vic Health

Don’t run before you can walk

If you’ve spent the past few months glued to MKR instead of pounding the pavements, you’re probably not ready to run a marathon just yet. The key to success (and enjoying yourself) is to set yourself achievable goals. So if you’re struggling to remember the last time you ran – for the bus doesn’t count! – it might be a good idea to check in with your GP before you dust off your sneakers.

Once you’ve got the sign-off from Doc, start out with a few brisk walks and progress to jogging when you feel ready. When you reach running stage, it’s vital that you warm up first – a five-minute powerwalk will do – so that you’re not stiff and sore the next day. Remember that you can always drop back down to walking pace if you’re struggling at any point throughout your run too.

Pick a pretty route

The time will pass much quicker if you’re running with a view. Chances are you know your local park or beachside spots well so try running a short route there first. If you’re stuck for inspiration, check out parkrun (parkrun.com.au). They organise and host 5km park runs across the nation (and world even).

The runs are free to participate in and they encourage all abilities to get involved – you can even walk if you don’t feel fit enough just yet – making them a great tool for beginners who need a little motivation boost. Take your partner or friend along too. It’s good to lock in someone else – that way you’ll feel bad if you pull out. Plus, it’s always great to have a familiar face by your side.

Choose your time wisely

The beauty of running is that you can do it anytime, pretty much anywhere. But as with anything that requires a little commitment, it’s easy to make an excuse. That’s why, especially when you’re first establishing a routine, it’s important to make it work for you.

Pick the best time of day for you – at lunch, first thing while your partner’s organising the kids, on the way home from the office, whatever works – and stick to it. Don’t try to squeeze it in when you’re tired or when it clashes with your favourite TV show! That’s when you’ll always end up cancelling – and feeling guilty. Not fun.

Make sure you’ve got the energy

Running requires more energy than sitting down to a nice glass of Shiraz or a bar of chocolate. So on days you’re planning to get your heart rate pumping, arm yourself with the fuel your body needs to power through those kms.

Eat foods such as complex carbs (beans, wholegrains), unsaturated fats (nuts, avocado) and lean protein (skinless chicken or turkey, tofu). It’s really important to stay hydrated, too. Avoid sugar-filled energy drinks that only give a short-term burst of energy and stick with water instead. You’ll soon be giving Sally Pearson a run for her money!

Once you work your run into your daily routine, it will become second nature!

Kit yourself out

As a hobby and way to stay active, running is pretty cheap – often free. It doesn’t require a membership or snazzy uniform – an old tee is A-OK here! Two things you might want to invest in though (for your own comfort and fun) are a pair of good sneakers and an armband to hold your phone (home of your running tunes).

Yes, a good playlist is vital to a good run. Go for songs that are uplifting and high energy. Leave Adele in the car and chuck on anything that makes you smile and move. And remember, every runner had to start somewhere. No matter how small the distance or slow you go, it’s more than you would do just sitting on the sofa. So give yourself a pat on the back and carry on!

This Mother’s Day, don’t forget those who desperately want to be a mum but can’t

Blogger CarlyMarie explains why bereaved mothers shouldn't be forgotten in the celebrations.

It’s one week until Mother’s Day and families around the country are preparing to celebrate. Restaurants have been booked for fancy lunches, provisions purchased for breakfasts in bed, and high-street retailers are at fever pitch.

But for women who have lost a child, suffered miscarriages or struggled to conceive, Mother’s Day can be a bit of a slap in the face.

In fact, for bereaved mothers, Mother’s Day can be one of the hardest days of the year. As Perth blogger CarlyMarie explains:

“If you have experienced the death of one or more of your children, struggled to conceive a child or are unable to fall pregnant at all, Mother’s Day can often bring up feelings of isolation, unworthiness, pain and sadness,” she says.

With this in mind, CarlyMarie has created Bereaved Mother’s Day – a special day that acknowledges “all true mothers.”

Bereaved mother and Sands parent supporter Anne Altamore told The Weekly Online that she is in support of the idea. Sadly, Anne had a miscarriage and lost her twins.

“Losing a child is complicated – it is the loss of a future, of milestones never celebrated, and can be very isolating. Bereaved Mother’s Day helps make us feel less alone and provides the opportunity and, dare I say it, even permission to join in solidarity with others like us and find encouragement and support,” she explains.

Anne believes that Bereaved Mother’s Day also helps to raise awareness of the bittersweet nature of Mother’s Day.

“Mother’s Day is a day to celebrate and honour mothers. And Bereaved Mother’s Day is a day to acknowledge and validate the losses that losing a child brings and provide support to bereaved mothers,” she says.

While Bereaved Mother’s Day might sound like something for an unfortunate few, there are actually thousands of bereaved mothers in Australia. Sands estimate that one in four pregnancies (103,000) ends in miscarriage in Australia each year, and approximately 3,000 babies are either stillborn or die in the first 28 days after birth.

However, pregnancy loss and stillbirth are often thought of as taboo subjects and swept under the carpet. Anne says that this is because people feel uncomfortable talking about it or simply don’t know what to say.

Anne’s advice is to reach out to bereaved mothers who may be experiencing intense grief.

“Being kind and respectful to the mother no matter at which stage she lost her child will be a source of comfort,” she says.

Sands have organised a number of events around the country to mark Bereaved Mother’s Day such as memorial services, afternoon teas and a bubble-blowing gathering where mothers will meet to blow bubbles in memory of their children.

As for Anne, she says that she will be spending Bereaved Mother’s Day on the phones at Sands offering support and comfort to anyone that wants to talk.

“My journey to integrating my losses and moving forward has had a strong focus on renewal and finding meaning,” she says.

“That makes my life a tribute to my twins.”

Dad hilariously forbids his four-year-old from dating

You're not getting a boyfriend, you're going to be a nun!
John Tierney and Grace Tierney

A Scottish father has recorded and shared the incredible moment his four-year-old daughter decided that she wanted to begin dating.

Feisty little Grace had clearly made up her mind that she was ready to jump in the dating pool but her father, John Tierney from Blantyre, was not having it, and decided it was time to lay down some ground rules.

See the hilarious clip in the video player below! Post continues…

Loading the player...

The 30-second clip, which was shared on his Twitter page, begins with John, a 37-year-old a shop fitter, sitting in the front seat of the family car, arguing into the camera as his daughter quarrels on from the back.

Their squabble begins with Grace asking, “What if I want to get a boyfriend?”

“Daddy will break his legs,” John replies simply. “And guess what will happen after that? See your boyfriend’s Daddy? Daddy will take him hostage and keep him in a cupboard.”

Gracie, who clearly isn’t getting her way at this point, then shouts back, “No, listen. I want a boyfriend. I’m getting a boyfriend.”

“You’re not getting a boyfriend, you’re going to be a nun,” John tells her, while attempting to keep a straight face.

“You’re going to work for Jesus. This is who you work for,” he says, pulling out his cross necklace. “End of story.”

Little Grace will celebrate her 5th birthday next month.

A very amused Twitter user and fellow father left a comment on the clip, saying, “We like minded fathers got to stick together and promote the cause #DADD. Dads against daughters dating #WorkingForJesus.”

John agreed with the user and replied, “Trying to raise her to be strong minded could be a mistake, she’s a wee star to be fair. It’s a battle we may lose but one we must fight.”

It’s not a huge surprise that the clip has absolutely taken off. With over 61,000 views since it’s upload, it seems that many fathers around the world share the same protective sentiment.

“Love u more than life itself baba,” the proud papa penned.

Speaking about the video to the Metro, John revealed how it all began.

“We were just heading to the park so Grace could have a go on her new bike, and she waved at two boys who walked past the car,” he began.

“I joked that she should stop waving at boys because they were smelly, and she then told me she wanted a boyfriend.”

“I started recording her responses because she is such a wee character – she is very much a sponge and absorbs everything that people says.”

“The video has gone a bit mental – we got stopped in the supermarket yesterday by someone who had seen it. I never expected it to go this mad.”

Thanks for the Friday fun, John!

“He’s doing well. He’s in the gym today working on his legs. We just have to keep positive.”

“It’s one step at a time,” she added to News.com.au.

Kerri-Anne, who has been a long-time supporter of the high-fashion brand having been a regular front row-sitter at each and every show for years, appeared to be in good spirits and she chatted to other Australian celebs and television personalities.

Kerri-Anne’s public debut comes shortly after her beloved husband John had finally reached a milestone in his recovery.

The blonde beauty took to Instagram to share some amazing news on her brave husband, who was left critically injured following a tragic balcony fall in mid-March.

The TV presenter has not left her husband’s side in the intensive care unit since he was airlifted to Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital from a golf resort near Coffs Harbour last month, but now, for the first time in 6 and a half weeks, the 75-year-old looks forward to the next phase of recovery, which will require him to move out of intensive care, and into the spinal unit to begin rehabilitation.

“After 6 and a half weeks in Intensive Care John is moving to the spinal unit,” Kerri-Anne, 62, quipped proudly.

The announcement was teamed with a cheerful photo of a smiling John surrounded by his caring team of medical staff.
