Grant and Naomi Day took their six-month-old Kyran to Shoalhaven Hospital on the NSW south coast in October 2013.
He was initially misdiagnosed, with doctor’s saying he just had a bad case of gastroenteritis, reports The Daily Telegraph.
But when he was still getting worse 20 hours later, they re-examined his and found a deadly bowel obstruction.
Doctors ordered Kyran be transferred to Sydney Children’s Hospital for emergency surgery, but he was then forced to wait for hours for an ambulance because paramedics wanted to have lunch before they made the 150km trip, an inquest has heard.
Four hours after the order to move Kyran was made, he finally left the hospital in an ambulance, but just one hour into the journey, he stopped breathing and the ambulance was diverted to Shellharbour Hospital so he could be resuscitated.
He was then airlifted to Sydney for surgery but had already suffered multiple cardiac arrests. The surgery was successful, but two days later he died when his life support system was switched off.
The inquest is investigating the conduct of Shoalhaven Hospital and its staff, the Newborn Emergency Transport Service and NSW Ambulance.
Football legend David Beckham started his birthday celebrations over the weekend with none other than the most important people in his life – his family.
The retired athlete is currently enjoying some well-deserved R&R with his four children, Brooklyn, 17, Romeo, 13, Cruz, 11, and Harper, four, in the picturesque countryside.
From his comfortable spot in the rolling green fields, the 41-year-old took a minute to connect with his fans on Instagram, by sharing a heartfelt video message thanking them for their love and support.
“Thank you all for the birthday messages and for your support this year!” he captioned the video where can be seen sitting in front of an empty field, looking the part of a country man in a flat cap and jumper draped over his shoulders.
“Hi everybody, so it’s a year to the day since I joined Instagram, I just want to thank you all for your support! 22 million in a year – not too bad!” the proud papa quipped in the video before a montage of some of his best Instagram moments flashed across the screen.

David’s loving wife, Victoria, also took the time out from their relaxing getaway to wish her husband the best on his special day.
Taking to Instagram, she uploaded a super sweet photo of her main man, looking chipper as he sat in front of a cosy fireplace completely surrounded by birthday gifts.
“Happy Birthday to the most amazing husband and wonderful daddy X We all love you so much!!” She penned to her 10 million followers.
Beck’s eldest son, Brooklyn, also shared a happy snap in his honour, which showed the two looking more like siblings than father in son as they sat atop a wooden fence bordering a paddock.
“Happy birthday dad. I’m so lucky to have a dad and a hero all in one! Love you so much” he said fondly of his dad who he has nicknamed “Mr Guns” – for obvious reasons.
She’s been on The Voice Australia since it started, but viewers are very lucky to see Delta Goodrem’s smiling face and tousled blonde hair this season.
The new issue of Woman’s Day reports Delta quit the hit show just before Christmas, even storming out of blind auditions for this year’s season.
The magazine claims “bullying” drove Delta to resign from the show, pointing the finger at fellow judges Jessie J and Joel and Benji Madden.
Delta apparently only agreed to stay on after signing a new deal with the Nine Network, reportedly worth $2 million, significantly more than her previous $800,000 contract.
A three-year-old boy from Sydney’s north died last night after falling into a pond.
His parents thought the boy was playing in their backyard on Chiltern Road, Ingleside, but he had wandered into a neighbour’s property without them realising.
His father found him in the pond at around 3pm yesterday. Paramedics were called and he was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick but tragically died there.
Police are investigating and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

The mini-Princess showed off two adorable little outfits in her 1st birthday portraits taken by mum Duchess Catherine. Here’s where you can get your hands on them!
In the cute snaps which were taken by her mum, Duchess Catherine, the mini-royal can be seen pottering around the house and gardens of her Norfolk home, climbing over furniture and playing with toys.
The pint-sized princess donned two ridiculously cute outfits for the photos. First, a blue dress which was paired with a matching bow and cream cashmere cardigan, and second, a pink, collard floral tunic.
Most items of clothing worn by the royal family tend to sell out as soon as they are spotted, so to help you get your hands on the little cherub’s outfits, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know!
Charlotte’s little blue, frill necked dress was made by Spanish label m&h – a brand which has actually been worn by Wills and Kate’s daughter in the past.
The baby wear brand has stores in Valancia, Madrid and Valladolid, but the garments will also soon be available for purchase online when the site launches.
Shoppers can expect to pay around $44 for the dress alone, but if you were looking to match the royal’s accessories, you should also set aside $122 for the cashmere cardigan from Olivier Baby.
Other accessories worn by the daughter of Prince William include a blue and pink bow, each worth $4.80, and the blue and pink tights worn by the princess can also be found for $21, all at Amaia Kids.
Princess Charlotte turns one on the 2nd of May and despite William and Kate’s efforts to keep celebrations low-key, the rest of world is going ga-ga when it comes to gifts.
The most eye-popping offering so far is a white gold rattle studded with diamonds, rubies and sapphires worth $57,500 gifted by the Natural Sapphire Company – an astonishing present given Charlotte would likely prefer the box it came in.
The lavish gift appeared on a list released by Kensington Palace yesterday, which includes several other expensive and similarly impractical offerings, including a Bhutanese goat from the King and Queen of Bhutan, a silver rattle from the President of Mexico and a set of silk decorative figurines from the President of China.
But not all the gifts are likely to go unappreciated by Charlotte – she will likely love the cuddly “Bo” dog from President Barack Obama and teddy bears from New Zealand Prime Minister John Key.
Other countries, including Australia, went down the charitable donation route. We donated $9,900 to a remote pygmy possum sanctuary while Canada gave $100,000 to an unnamed charity.
The world’s biggest celebrities and fashion icons have started to roll in to this year’s Met Gala – AKA the Oscars of the fashion world.
We’re seeing them take on their own version of the 2016 theme: Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology as they pose on the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s famed staircase in New York.
And with a theme like that, there’s always going to be some surprises in terms of out-there outfits.
But that’s what the Met Gala is all about – pushing the boundaries of fashion.

Things got a little risqué on The Today Show this morning and it was all a bit much for Karl Stefanovic.
The host laughed so hard he nearly cried during an exchange with co-host Lisa Wilkinson about the pussybow detail on her white blouse.
“Lisa’s shirt just goes on and … oh sorry,” Karl said as he reached over to fondle Lisa’s blouse, which featured long silk ties from the neckline to the floor.
He then burst into uncontrollable laughter as newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys asked: “Where are you reaching? That’s out of bounds man!”
As Karl blushed, Lisa said, “That’s okay, he only touched my pussybow so that’s okay” leading Sylvia to remark, “Even I’m not allowed to touch the pussybow, you know!”
Not missing a beat, Lisa replied: “Lisa then said: ‘How long have we been together? Nine years. You’re allowed to touch my pussybow.”
Departing CEOs must face a crushing sense of: “Now what?” When you have lived and breathed a job night and day for years, the post-job anticlimax can be daunting.
So what can business leaders learn from people who have had to deal with the challenge of finding meaning and direction in life after its apparent high point has been and gone?
Here are five lessons:
1. You can change direction while drawing on what you knew before.
Apollo 12 pilot Alan Bean walked on the Moon before deciding to follow his true passion: art. There’s only one subject he painted for the next 40 years, however: astronauts on the surface of the moon.
2. Talk, don’t bury.
People who leave in difficult circumstances can still build on that ordeal.
Captain Al Haynes was the pilot on United Airlines Flight 232, which crash-landed in Sioux City in 1989 after engine failure.
Although 111 people died in the fiery accident, 185 survived due to the actions of the flight crew. He developed a talk on the disaster which he has now delivered 2000 times.
The chief flight attendant, Jan Brown, has devoted the rest of her life to changing aircraft regulations for the safety of infants.
Former Lebanon hostage, journalist John McCarthy, now leads his professional field on the Middle East, partly because of the unique understanding of the region that he gained from his time in captivity there.
3. You can take a totally different path and be happy.
Ray Wilson was a member of the 1966 World Cup-winning England football side.
Every other member of that team is a household name in England, but not Ray – because he turned his back on the game and became an undertaker in Yorkshire instead.
He and his wife are perfectly happy and haven’t missed the limelight once.
4. You don’t need to rest on your laurels to be successful.
Bill Anders was a member of the Apollo 8 crew – the first to travel to the Moon and to see the Earth in its entirety.
He spent most of his later life, however, slightly irritated about that notoriety, and today he would much rather people remember his subsequent exceptional career at General Dynamics, where he was a remarkable turnaround CEO.
To him, that’s the much greater achievement – far from trading on his Apollo history, he’d rather ignore it.
5. Helping others overtake you can be rewarding.
In 1960, Joe Kittinger jumped from the edge of the atmosphere, setting a skydiving record that stood for 52 years.
When it was finally broken in 2012, by base jumper Felix Baumgartner, it only happened because of Kittinger’s considerable assistance. He was capsule communicator (on the other end of the radio) and mentor for Baumgartner’s jump. Being part of a mission, even one that erased him from the record books, gave him an enormous sense of wellbeing.
Chris Wright is the author of No More Worlds To Conquer: Sixteen people who defined their time – and what they did next (HarperCollins, A$34.99 hardback, A$13.99 e-book). This edited extract originally appeared in the October issue of In The Black.
Hopefully this means the two have put the bad blood behind them, and that their relationship is back on track.
A bitter custody battle has been raging for months between Madonna and ex-partner Guy Ritchie over their son Rocco, with Madonna finishing her world tour to focus on rebuilding the family relationship.
In early March, a judge ruled that Rocco stay with his father until the custody agreement is finally reached.
