Prince William shows off his yoga moves

Onlookers got an eyeful as the Duke of Cambridge channeled his inner yogi in tight white pants at a charity polo match.
Prince William

When you’re gonna be king one day, it pays to be flexible!

Prince William just showed off his royal form in a rather different way, displaying his best yoga moves while he was warming up for his charity match at the 2016 Audi Polo Challenge in Ascot.

And he did it in tight, white jeans. Clearly the royals aren’t worried about grass stains!

The father of two stretched and contorted his body into a variety of common and not-so-common poses, while trying his hardest to maintain a straight face.

Unfortunately for the Duke of Cambridge, some of the positions were just too funny!

Prince William got his side stretch on, and tried to keep a straight face.

But it was all just a bit too ridiculous!

And while jeans definitely aren’t usually recommended attire for aspiring yogis, they’re the same pair William later wore when riding in the polo match, so we guess it makes sense.

Still, the onlookers weren’t quite used to seeing His Royal Highness with attire that was quite so form fitting!

No, Wills, keep your back level!

The Duke of Cambridge needed a few royal pointers.

The young royal also sported a blue chambray button up shirt and black socks for the exercise.

With it heading into summer over in England, we bet Wills would have been pretty hot in that outfit… in more ways than one!

Concentrate William, hold that pose!

The polo match kicked off not long after.

And while Prince Harry later joined his brother on the field for the sport, he was not present during the impromptu stretch session.

It was reported that when Catherine Duchess of Cambridge was pregnant, she took up prenatal yoga and continued the exercise after Prince George was born. Maybe she gave her 33-year-old husband a few pointers?

Watch Will show off his svelte yoga moves. Post continues…

Princes William and Harry, 31, will be competing in a series of charity polo matches through the summer months in England to raise money for 17 different charity organisations they support.

The royal brothers adore playing polo and are always happy to lend their mallets to high-profile charity tournaments to raise money for worthy causes.

The princes’ office announced on Friday that the duo have raised a combined $13.9 million by playing polo for charity since 2007.

The 17-year-old new face of Chanel posted a touching throwback picture of Johnny holding her hand as a baby with a caption in support of her famous father.

“My dad is the sweetest, most loving person I know. He’s been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same.”

Lily-Rose’s mother is Vanessa Paradis, Johnny’s ex partner. The former couple also share a 14-year-old son Jack.

Lily-Rose shared a vintage snap of her and her dad to show her support.

Vanessa reportedly also made a statement in support of the Alice Through The Looking Glass actor.

Vanessa threw her support behind her former lover.

TMZ reportedly obtained a letter written by the 43-year-old that spoke of Johnny’s kind nature throughout their 14-year union.

“He’s a sensitive, loving and loved person, and I believe with all my hear that these recent allegations being made are outrageous,” Vanessa reportedly wrote.

Amber was granted a temporary restraining order against Johnny late last week.

She continued: “In all these years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me and this looks nothing like the man I lived with for 14 wonderful years.

This baby looks so much like Gordon Ramsay

Whoa! Gordon Ramsay's baby doppelganger is breaking Twitter.

We don’t imagine told getting your baby looks the spitting image of a 49-year-old celebrity chef with a fiery temper and a potty mouth might be much of a compliment, but one mother brought the attention on her own kid when she suggested her bub and Gordon Ramsey could be twins.

Claire Dempster took a picture of her cute/steely eyed baby this week and Tweeted it to the cook, thinking she wouldn’t get much of a response.

Claire wrote: “@GordonRamsay this is our baba – have you been in Wales for any reason around 10 months ago.”

Less than a day later the post has been retweeted more than 1,600 times and solicited a response from Ramsay himself saying the resemblance is uncanny.

It turns out he had been in Wales, but the timing is out. He replied: “Yes about 11 months ago”.

The chef then even tweeted a picture of the baby with a joking caption: “Poor kid.”

Let’s hope the little mini-me’s first word doesn’t start with an ‘F’.

Amber Heard granted restraining order against Johnny Depp

A judge has ordered movie star Johnny Depp to stay away from wife Amber Heard following allegations of verbal and physical abuse.

WARNING: This content contains references to domestic violence and could be triggering to some readers.

After filing for divorce on Monday Amber Heard has been granted a restraining order against husband Johnny Deep alleging the actor abused her.

Depp, 52 has been told to stay 100 yards away from 30-year-old Heard after the Magic Mike XXL star produced pictures and a statement to an LA court where she claims Depp physically and verbally assaulted her during a fit of drunken jealousy on May 21.

In pictures submitted Heard’s right eye appears red and marked from an incident where she told police The Pirates of the Caribbean star had “wound up (his) arm like a baseball pitcher” and threw her iPhone at her, reports Page Six.

The bombshell accusations of violence are not an isolated incident, Heard claims in her filings – which have now become part of the divorce proceedings she lodged on Monday after just 15 months of marriage.

Heard stated that there “have been several prior incidents of domestic violence with Johnny. In particular there was one severe incident in December 2015 where I truly feared that my life was in danger.”

She also added: “Johnny has a long-held and widely-acknowledged public and private history of drug and alcohol abuse.”

“He has a short fuse … He is often paranoid and his temper is exceptionally scary for me as it has proven many times to be physically dangerous and/or life threatening to me.”

The two actors met while filming The Rum Diary in 2009, but didn’t go public with their relationship till 2011, after the Depp split from French actress and musician, Vanessa Paradis, the mother of his two children.

Page Six reports that the alleged iPhone incident occurred one day after the death of Depp’s mother, Betty Sue Palmer.

In the wake of speculation Depp’s reps addressed the split in a statement to PEOPLE on Thursday: “Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life. Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly.”

The actor has yet to address the latest allegations of abuse made against him.

Ex-Idol host James Mathison to challenge Tony Abbott’s seat of Warringah

TV host James Mathison announces independent candidacy against former prime minister Tony Abbott in the Sydney seat of Warringah.

There are always a few surprises come campaigning season but the news of former Australian Idol host James Mathison taking on ex PM Tony Abbott for his seat of Warringah has certainly added a little more spice to the mix.

The electorate, which encompasses suburbs like Manly, Mosman and Neutral Bay, is a seat which Mr Abbott has sat comfortably in for 22 years, with a current 15.4 margin.

Mathison, 38, went public with his plans of running as an Independent candidate for the Northern Beaches area on Saturday morning, vowing to use social media to capture the youth vote.

In an exclusive interview with The Daily Telegraph the Frenchs Forest resident and father-of-two said he only made the decision to run a fortnight ago, after watching Mr Abbott announce his election campaign on Sky News.

“I just thought ‘who is holding him to account?”, Mathison told The Tele, suggesting Mr Abbott failed to deliver on many promises and he is out of touch with the public.

“I don’t think his stance and the stance of the far right of the Liberal Party reflect the community and that’s what we’re going to try to tap into. The Greens are too extreme. People here don’t overly trust Labor but they can’t stand Tony, so what do they do? They just sleepwalk into the polling booth and do what they’ve always done,” Mathison said.

Pushes for marriage equality, refugees and climate change will all be key campaigning points for Mathison, but he says right now his focus is letting people know he’s serious about his parliamentary aspirations.

“Letting people know you’re running is easy. The hard part is convincing them this isn’t a joke, it’s not a prank, or a stunt, that I really care about the community and I really care about changing the way we do this,” Mathison said.

“Maybe it’s crazy to think you can win a safe seat like this, but I think it’s even crazier to reward someone who has just not delivered for the community and has deceived the nation over and over and over again. I think that’s even crazier.”

The political hopeful – who earlier this month was taken away by police during a protest to stop Moreton Bay fig trees being cut down at Moore Park in Sydney – changed his Twitter and Facebook accounts overnight to read: “Warringah deserves better”.

And whether he likes it or not Mathison has already won the support of another high profile Independent in Tasmanian senator Jacqui Lambi.

“I love independents,” Lambi told the Today show on Saturday. “You go for it, James. Put those budgie smugglers on and give Tony Abbott a run.”

Using the Twitter hashtag #TimesUpTony and the slogan ‘Our Chance For A Change’ Mr Mathison, who may have drawn inspiration from American Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, told the Daily Tele he would crowd-fund his campaign and post his policy platform online in a series of pre-recorded video messages.

Inside Dame Elisabeth Murdoch’s flower garden

The Weekly met Dame Elisabeth Murdoch's grand-daughters, Judy and Penny (pictured below left and right), and daughter Janet (middle) at her much-loved Cruden Farm.

On the outskirts of Melbourne, beyond a modest wooden sign saying “Cruden Farm”, 130 lemon-scented eucalypts stand sentry along a narrow drive leading to a two-storey neoclassical farmhouse with soaring pillars.

Generations of the Murdoch family have grown up on this Langwarrin property, milking cows and herding sheep amid the majestic oaks and elms, walled gardens and a lake complete with charming stone bridge.

Just a short walk from the kitchen door is the picking garden – a technicoloured riot of roses, lavender, catmint, poppies, honeysuckle and zinnias.

Every morning, the irrepressible Dame Elisabeth Murdoch would be up before sunrise, watering her beloved garden and picking flowers, either for the arrangements scattered throughout her home or for the friends she was seeing that day.

“When Granny came to Melbourne, she’d always bring posies,” recalls Penny Fowler, grand-daughter of the much-loved philanthropist, who died in 2012 aged 103.

“Arranging flowers has always been a part of Cruden Farm – you’d come down here and there were beautiful flowers everywhere. It was a big part of Granny’s life.”

Dame Elisabeth Murdoch used to get around the farm in a golf buggy.

According to grand-daughter Judy Paterson, Dame Elisabeth was still scaling Cruden Farm’s elm trees to pick branches for her arrangements when she was well into her 80s.

And even after she had turned 100, the matriarch continued to whiz around the 54-hectare property in her golf buggy (an 80th birthday present from son Rupert), making plans with her long-time gardener, Michael Morrison.

A wedding gift in 1928 from her husband, newspaperman Keith Murdoch, Cruden Farm was a lifelong passion for Dame Elisabeth.

A natural, hands-on gardener with an eye for beauty, the mother of four presided over the property for more than eight decades, creating a garden that would become one of the most celebrated in the country.

(Clockwise from top left) The 54-hectare Cruden Farm is awash with colour; Dame Elisabeth’s grand-daughter Penny and daughter Janet with gardener Michael Morrison; Landscape designer Paul Bangay; and, the stunning Brilliance rose.

Today, three of Dame Elisabeth’s grand-daughters – Penny, Judy and Julie Kantor – and her daughter, Janet Calvert-Jones, gather in the garden with world-renowned landscape designer Paul Bangay to mark the upcoming campaign for the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI), which Dame Elisabeth helped establish 30 years ago.

“She cared very much about looking after kids when they were sick,” explains Janet, “but she thought that if people could find causes and prevent illness, then that would be even better.”

In honour of Dame Elisabeth, the MCRI is inviting Australian women to host a garden party to raise money for the institute and is releasing the Brilliance rose for sale in July, with part of the proceeds going to the research organisation.

MCRI ambassador Paul Bangay describes the Brilliance as a full, bushy hybrid tea rose that looks good in the garden bed.

“It’s a lovely white flower and it’s a good one for picking,” he says.

“It’ll flower the whole season, starting in early spring and finishing in autumn.”

Dahlias, irises and sweet peas last quite well inside the house, he says, but roses are the standouts for hardiness, particularly hybrid teas, which have been bred for picking.

Old-fashioned varieties, such as David Austin roses, look and smell beautiful in the garden, says Paul, but collapse as soon as they are cut – as do the helleborus, anemones and some types of hydrangea.

The hydrangea macrophylla, however, will last inside for weeks.

“With hydrangeas, you want them out in full flower [when you cut them] because otherwise they won’t come out in flower in the vase,” he says.

“With roses, you can pick them just as the bud is starting to swell.”

A landscape designer for 30 years, Paul laments that people have given up on gardening and that the knowledge once handed down the generations has been lost.

“People are outsourcing their gardens, which I think is sad,” he says.

“I think growing flowers and bringing them inside encourages people to select their own plants, become passionate about their garden and not think of it as something you just get a gardener to come in and do.”

Paul, who met Dame Elisabeth in 1982 as a horticulture student and became friends with her over the next 30 years, says one of the things he admired most was her 80-year commitment to one garden.

“She was never afraid to pull something out,” he says, “or experiment with new things.”

When she picked flowers for her home, each room called for a specific colour palette: flowers of a pink or brown hue in the sitting room; and apricot-coloured roses in the entryway.

Known for her frugality, Dame Elisabeth refused to install central heating at Cruden Farm and would never have bought a bouquet either.

“It just wouldn’t have been in her psyche to go buy flowers,” says Paul.

“The fact that you can grow your own flowers was very important to her.”

Gardener Michael Morrison, Dame Elisabeth’s right-hand man at Cruden Farm since 1971, adds, “She was always anxious, being practical, that flowers lasted, so she always loved to put a lot of budding flowers in her arrangements.”

Over 40 years together, Michael and “the boss” arranged flowers for the weddings, funerals and parties of countless Murdoch friends and relatives.

“She enjoyed the flowers in her garden,” says Michael, “but it gave her enormous pleasure to share them with someone else.”

It is more than three years since Dame Elisabeth died, and yet Michael still makes sure there are always fresh flowers in every room of Cruden Farm.

What a fitting tribute to the extraordinary woman who lived there.

Three sisters diagnosed with cancer within weeks of each other

But despite the tragic circumstances, the ‘bald sisters’ are still full of hope.

Within a matter of months, the three Page sisters Sharee, 34, Annette, 35, and sister-in-law Lindsay, 38, all learned the devastating news that they all had cancer.

First it was Lindsay with the news that her angiosarcoma (cancer in the inner lining of blood vessels) had come back with a vengeance to her liver and lungs. In April two months later, it was Sharee with Stage II breast cancer, and then two weeks later it was Annette with Stage III breast cancer.

Both Sharee and Annette learned they each carried the BRCA2 gene.

But despite the terrible circumstances to have fallen on the family, the three women – who live close to each other in Utah, US, are all in good spirits and trying to do the best they can.

Lindsay, a stay-at-home mum with four kids, tells People: “We all decided early on that we weren’t going to let this get us down. I don’t know where I’ll be a year from now, and that’s a scary thought.

“But you have to have faith, hope and humour. You can sit around and be sad. What possible good can come from that?”

Sharee, who works for a time-management company and is single, is documenting her journey on YouTube with a light-hearted videos, saying: “I love to laugh. Why let cancer get in the way?”

She continued: “It just hit me that everybody has a trial or hardship of some kind. It’s how you choose to face those hardships that matters.”

One of Sharee’s videos documented Annette – who works for a nutritional supplement company and is also single – helping shave her head. They now call themselves ‘the bald sisters’.

The one positive? Speedy showers.

Sharee said: “There’s no shampooing, no conditioning and no hair to clean up. We all agree that it’s a real time-saver.”

They call themselves the ‘the bald sisters’.

Lindsay is currently on a new immunotherapy trial treatment and is hopeful – her last scan showed that her tumours were no longer growing.

Annette’s cancer is particularly aggressive and has spread to her lymph nodes, but the three women are still full of hope.

“Attitude means everything when you’re trying to get through cancer,” says Annette.

Sharee adds: “We’re optimistic that one day the three of us will look back and say, ‘Remember that time when we all had cancer?’”
