Travis Fimmel is the Aussie taking Hollywood by storm

Some are dubbing him the new Chris Hemsworth, but who is Travis Fimmel? Let’s find out.
Travis Fimmel

It would seem that there’s been an Australian hunk in Hollywood right under our noses this whole time!

You may recognise Travis Fimmel from his pivotal role as Ragnar in the Canadian-Irish drama series Vikings, if not, there is a very good chance you’ve already seen him before – sans clothes.

With just $60 in his pocket, the Aussie hunk got his start at a LA Models agency… and he was barefoot!

“He had a beautiful face, a very funny personality it all clicked,” his agent Paul Nelson recalled.

“We helped him out with money and a place to stay. We believed in him from the beginning.”

Travis came from humble beginnings, growing up on a 5,000 acre cattle farm in Lockington, Victoria. As the youngest of three brothers, the rising star spent his time playing chase around the farm.

Like many true blue Aussie blokes, Travis wanted to be a footy player but a broken leg put an end to his sporting career.

But alas, it all worked out for the best after he was scouted by Chadwicks modelling agency.

Sharon Osbourne may just have been Travis’ biggest fan. The talk show host had the aspiring actor on her show in his peak modelling years.

From his move to the big smoke in LA, Travis’ career took off.

When he wasn’t starring in music videos alongside Janet Jackson and Jennifer Lopez, he was modelling as a regular for Calvin Klein.

In fact, Travis became the first male model in the world to secure a six-figure deal to model exclusively for the luxury label for a year.

He was dubbed one of the world’s sexiest bachelors by People in 2002, and it has even been suggested that Sex and the City’s heartthrob Smith Jerrod was based off Travis himself!

A pretty uncanny resemblance!

After his name made waves, Travis began to hone in on his acting career. Modelling cheques paid his way through acting classes, and soon the hunk was able to acquire supporting roles in both TV and film productions.

Now, the 36-year-old, who stars as Ragnar in the gory series Vikings, has just landed himself the lead role in the film adaption of the popular video game of the same name.

Speaking of how a big screen production differs from the small screen scale he’s used to, the star quipped, “It was a whole different experience doing so much motion-capture and special effects and getting pushed around with broomsticks and tennis balls thrown at you.”

That star became a household name with his role as Ragnar in Vikings.

“It reminded me of home — my brothers throwing stuff at me and hitting me with broomsticks,” he says.

So, how does this Victoria-born beau size up to our beloved Chris Hemsworth?

We think we will need his brothers to join him in Hollywood to be able to make that decision…

Oscar Pistorius walks without prosthetics in court to show ‘vulnerability’

The paralympian has walked on his stumps in a bid to avoid jail.

The 29-year-old “Blade Runner” faces a minimum 15-year jail term after his manslaughter conviction for the 2013 killing was upgraded on appeal.

Scroll down for video

He is currently undergoing a court case in South Africa to determine his sentence which will be delivered on July 6.

In a bid to avoid jail and show the court how vulnerable he is, he walked around the room without his prosthetics.

Defence lawyer Barry Roux used this as his closing argument for Wednesday’s hearing and asked the Paralympian to walk on his stumps.

Pistorius stood for five minutes in front of the court television camera and wiped tears from his eyes.

Roux said: “The accused was vulnerable because of his disability. His failure to conduct a rational thought process does not negate his vulnerability.”

This comes after a psychologist for the defence called Pistorius a ‘broken man’, and that he’s on medication for depression, anxiety and insomnia.

On Valentine’s Day 2013, his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was shot four times through the locked bathroom door by Pistorious. He has always said he believed it to be an intruder.

Roux is asking for a light sentence as he believes Pistorius’ disability makes him vulnerable.

“The fact is that a disabled person in jail has a more difficult time,” Roux said in court.

Divorced people reveal their final straw

These stories are crazy!

Married couples can be pretty tolerant with each other but these people below have outlined the exact moment they decided to call it quits.

Reddit users have confessed their marriage break-up stories and some of them are unbelievable.

“When I came home to find her sister’s husband naked in my bed.”

“It was pretty much the Emma Thompson storyline from Love Actually – peeked into a jewelry bag at what I thought was my Christmas gift, on Christmas morning got a goddamn Nook instead. I was confused until a week later, via Facebook snooping, I saw his ‘friend’ showing off the gift. Shortly before that, I’d seen suspicious footprints all over our floor and he denied anyone had been in the house.”

“The day after my father died (which happened to be Thanksgiving Day) my husband erased and reset my phone. Everything on it gone. Pictures of my dad with my daughter, pictures that only I had. He did it knowing that I had not backed up my phone and it wasn’t connected to the cloud either. I had called him ‘the worst person in the world’ because he requested a month of leave to visit my terminally ill father, got the leave, then decided to not buy a ticket to come visit. When I called him that, he decided to show me how much worse it could be. That was the final straw.”

“My husband was cheating. I found out, and instead of immediately dumping his ass, I said, ‘Let’s try to work this out, but you have to dump the girlfriend.’ His response: ‘But what if you and me don’t work out?’ DIRECT QUOTE. And THAT was the final straw.”

“Called to tell him my mum had just died and he said, ‘Ok’ and nothing else.”

“Him leaving the hospital when I was in labor with our daughter because I was whiny. It stressed him out. For me to be whiny.”

“The very last one was probably when I was on a vacation (visiting my hometown) by myself because my ex hated traveling and did whatever he could to avoid it. I was hiking along a gorgeous river with two good friends who are a couple, and watching them have so much fun together in nature. My ex hated being outdoors or doing anything involving exercise. I absolutely love both (yeah yeah … why did I even fall in love with and marry him, but we did have some other things in common). When I saw my friends enjoying nature together, I felt so envious and I realized that would never be me and my significant other, if I stayed with my ex anyway.”

“I came home early from work because of a migraine. Found him in bed with my best friend. Oddly, I was more hurt by her behaviour than his. Broomed them both that day.”

“We had been fighting over some fundamental issues, and I moved out for a couple weeks. I told him I’d be back in 3 weeks, we’d discuss everything with clear heads, and move on in our relationship. When I came over to have that conversation, he didn’t even turn off Battlefield. I quietly packed the rest of my stuff, and left. He regretted that decision soon after, and almost 3 years later still tries to get me back … in between girlfriends.”

“When our four year-old son started imitating what we yelled at each other during our increasingly frequent blowout fights.”

“He mentioned divorce, kind of as a threat, as in ‘If you’re so unhappy, why don’t we just get divorced then?’ intending me to go ‘No! We’ll work it out, I’ll try harder…’ etc. etc. etc. I responded the intended way, but it stuck in my mind: Suddenly, divorce became a possibility, and I had a way out. It was weird that him mentioning divorce as a way of bringing me back to him was what pushed me further away.”

Perth child psychiatrist had 409 pics of young boys in public toilets

A Perth child psychiatrist has been found with 409 images and 12 videos of young boys after he allegedly filmed them in public toilets.

A Perth child psychiatrist has been found with 409 images and 12 videos of young boys after he allegedly filmed them in public toilets.

Aaron Szen Yang Voon, 41, has been banned from carrying a smartphone after the evidence was found, all of which has been deemed child exploitation material.

A Perth court heard yesterday that he allegedly filmed young boys’ genitals in public toilets, with Perth Now reporting that some of the videos actually show his face as he turns off the camera.

There was one incident where Voon followed a child into a theatre lobby and filmed him urinating, “focusing on his genital area”.

He was arrested last week when he flew into the country from Canada, and will face court again on July 13.

Voon is out on bail but is now forced to stop working, hand over his passport, pay a $50,000 surety and report to police twice a week. He cannot go within 100m of public children where children regularly attend, and he can’t have any device that can record or receive electronic messages. He is not to have contact with anyone under the age of 18 and he can’t leave WA without permission.

He also faces allegations of child pornography in Canada and was arrested last month when he was allegedly caught filming a boy in a shopping centre public toilet.

The life lesson Chrissy Teigen can’t wait to teach baby Luna

The model muma has some very valuable advice for her newborn daughter.
Chrissy Teigen Luna

Although baby Luna is only two-months-old, she certainly has a lot to learn.

Along with teaching her to walk, talk and not eat dirt, the 30-year-old model hopes to teach her bundle of joy a very valuable life lesson which she revealed while answering questions at a panel event for Lip Sync Battle on Tuesday.

“An important thing I’ll try and teach [Luna] is – no matter what, you will find that job, you will find that point in life where people are gonna want you to be exactly the way you are and nothing else,” the new mum confessed to an audience member during a panel event for her hit show Lip Sync Battle.

Elaborating at the television event, the blonde beauty quipped, “I think that was a big thing for me to learn in the modelling world.”

The couple are already besotted with their little angel.

“You go about your days pretending to be so sexy and poised and together and it was interesting for me to learn that as you go on and meet different groups of people, and to be with these people that you love, that they appreciate you for having this personality which may be quirky or weird or odd to you.”

“I think I’m excited to teach her to just be yourself and eventually it’s going to pay off,” she concluded.

And while the Thai-born beauty has always embraced her natural side, she definitely didn’t have to try to be sexy at the star-studded event.

The Cravings cookbook author proudly showed off her incredible post-baby body in a black, sheer panelled midi-dress as she posed alongside her 10-time Grammy Award-winning husband, John Legend.

Of course, it’s news to no one that she looks fabulous, but last month the mother-of-one was met with criticism for how quickly she has managed to “bounce back.”

The couple left little Luna at home for a romantic night out.

“I think some people actually get really weirded out if you do bounce back too quickly because you really should be at home with this little thing and taking care of her and not so concerned,” the pretty bronde said to People at the time.

“But you’ll never have the right answer and you’ll never be right to everybody, so you just live and do what you can do best.”

“I worked out more pregnant than I ever did not pregnant!” she admitted before adding, “So for me, to be able to come back after wasn’t a concern.”

Tell us your secrets, Chrissy!

Whatever Chrissy’s secret is, we sure would love to know!

“I love you mum”

Orlando shooting victim Eddie Justice sent his last ever text message to his mother saying, “Mommy I love you.” Here, Kerri Sackville explains why the text struck a chord with her.
Orlando shooting eddie justice final text mum

Minutes after his Rozelle apartment building exploded in flames last year, twenty seven year old Chris Noble sent his last ever text message. It was 4.08am. He almost certainly knew he was going to die.

His message was to his mother, Liz Noble, and it contained three words.

I love you.

Victims of the Sydney Siege in the Lindt café sent text messages to their mothers. And we know that Eddie Justice, a thirty year old victim of the Orlando shooting massacre, sent his last texts to his mother.

Mommy I love you, he wrote.

We have long known that dying adults think of their mothers. On the battlefields of Normandy, fallen soldiers were heard to calling out, not for their wives, or their girlfriends, or even to God, but to their mothers. As veteran Frank Devito recalled, “The last word they say before they die is ‘Momma’.”

It is heartbreakingly sad, but strangely beautiful, that our last thoughts are so often of our mums. No matter how old we are, no matter who else is in our lives, the maternal bond remains absolutely paramount.

Orlando shooting victim Eddie Justice, 30, sent a final text to his mother saying “Mommy I love you.”

As a baby, we learn to feel that our mother can protect us from anything. She is the first to hold us, to feed us, to nurture us, to give us love. She is the one we run to for protection in times of danger, and seek comfort from in times of pain.

And though we realize over the course of our life that our mother is just human, and cannot always keep us safe, that sense of mother as comfort remains embedded in our soul. And so she is still the one we instinctively reach out for when we are stripped down to our most primitive selves. In our most extreme moment of stress, when we are faced with death, she is still the one we call to for comfort.

As a mother of three children, I am deeply moved by the text messages from dying adults to their mothers. My kids still live at home, and it is easy for me to see how dependent they are on my care.

But as I watch them grow up, and contemplate them leaving home, I wonder what our relationship will look like. They will learn to drive, they will learn to cook, they will learn to fend for themselves, and I won’t have the day to day significance in their lives.

I need to remember that motherhood isn’t about meals or laundry or the minutiae of our days. It is about the unconditional love that only I as a mother can give to my children. Love without limitations or conditions, love that is blind to behavior, love that will transcend distance or time.

My children will love other people, have friendships and romantic relationships, and even have children of their own. But they will never experience unconditional love from anyone else in their lives.

I feel so devastated for those mothers who received those terrible tests, in the Orlando massacre, in the Sydney siege, in the Rozelle fire. Still, their children knew they were there with their unconditional love. I hope they can derive comfort from that.

The truth about gluten-free diets

Scientists think it’s nonsense.

Gluten-free seems to be the latest fad that’s taken hold of health fanatics everywhere, with best-selling books calling gluten the enemy.

They say that gluten is a major source of a bunch of health problems and that ditching it makes people feel healthier and even happier.

The gluten-free diet has become so big that it’s actually become the most searched diet on Google in the US.

Yet despite the hype surrounding it, scientific evidence doesn’t support all these ‘wonderful’ health claims.

For those with celiac disease (currently affecting about one per cent of the population), staying away from gluten isn’t just a fad life choice, it’s vital to their health. They have to eliminate every trace of gluten from their diet, otherwise it can cause a multitude of risks – their small intestine becomes inflamed, plus their skin, teeth, bones, liver and the nervous system may become affected.

Gluten-free diets lack fibre and it’s common to see vitamin deficiencies in those who are on it. Plus, gluten-free food products are packed with sugar and fat to ensure it’s palatable, which kinda defeats the purpose of a diet in the first place.

Gluten isn’t just in bread – it’s also found in beer, plus many sauces and seasonings. Giving it up requires constant monitoring of everything you’re eating and to be honest, it’s just exhausting.

Some people with irritable bowel syndrome can benefit off eliminating wheat but it’s unsure why. There are some nutritionists and physicians who swear by a gluten-free diet for preventing autoimmune diseases, reducing inflammation, increasing energy, treating depression and even helping autism – but none of this has been proved by science.

A study was conducted to see the effect of the diet on competitive cyclists and it found that it did not boost energy.

Giving up gluten may seem like a quick fix to fast-track weight loss but it’s actually depriving you of a whole list of nutrients. So if you’re not celiac, it’s best you try an alternative.

But also, if it’s not absolutely vital to your health to give up bread, why would you?

Go on, treat yourself.

Kim Kardashian poses nude on the cover of GQ

The mother-of-two shows off her incredible, post-baby body in a bare-all shoot for the men’s publication.
Kim Kardashian

Another day, another nude from the selfie Queen.

In true Kim fashion, the reality star has stripped down to bare all for her first ever GQ Magazine cover, which happens to be the glossy’s 10th-anniversary Love, Sex, and Madness issue.

Performing her best Aphrodite pose, the mother-of-two stands completely nude with nothing on but her $2.5 million engagement ring from rapper husband, Kanye West, and a leather jacket that has been strategically held to cover her modesty.

Kim shows off a more natural side in the bare-all spread photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

Staring directly into the lens of the camera, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star shows off her infamous pout, decorated with only lip gloss and complemented by minimal makeup.

Continuing the sexy theme through the spread, the 35-year-old can also be seen donning only a sheer bra with thigh-high boots underneath a red coat, while another shot shows the businesswoman wearing a fishnet bodysuit.

Go behind-the-scenes of the sexy shoot in the video player below! Post continues…

Loading the player...

While there’s no denying that the bare-all spread isn’t to everyone’s taste, one has to admit that the brunette beauty looks amazing – particularly after giving birth to her second child, Saint, in December last year.

Speaking to People of her post-baby body struggles, the selfie queen admitted, “Anyone who has had kids knows your body changes, and it’s hard to get your body back in shape.”

“It takes so much determination, and mental and physical power and energy.”

So how exactly has Kim managed to bounce back so fast? Well, the answer to that lies on her dinner plate!

The mother of North, three, and Saint, seven-months, has stepped out looking noticeably more svelte since the birth of her second child.

After giving birth to her second bub, Kanye West’s wife set herself the task of getting her body back to “2010 Kim.”

This meant losing about another 5kgs on top of the 27kgs she gained during her second pregnancy.

Six months on since promising herself and her 45 million Twitter followers that she would lose a total of 31 kilograms, the 35-year-old revealed that she has gotten herself down to a svelte 59kgs in a Snapchat pic.

Kim has kept fans informed throughout the entire weight-loss journey.

Kim gave away her biggest diet weapon back in January – around the same time she announced her exact weight loss goals.

“I’m so excited! I’m 30 pounds (13.6kg) down today but 40 (18kg) to go! I’m so focused,” she began before revealing that the key to her diet is a meal plan known in the industry as the Atkins plan.

The renowned celebrity diet is nothing new to the A-lister, who previously turned to the Atkins diet after the birth of her first daughter North in 2013.

To get slim Kim back, the mother-of-two has indulged in a variety of foods including proteins in the form of fish, chicken, eggs and meat, lots of colorful vegetables and low-glycemic fruits such as berries and cantaloupe.

For her daily serve of dairy, Kim munches away on Greek yogurt and some (but not all) cheeses, and healthy fats like nuts, avocados and olive oil – all the while staying hydrated by consuming 1.3 – 1.8 litres of water.

Kim, pictured pregnant with her second bub (L), is aiming to get back to her 2010 figure (R).

Kim’s day on a plate would start with a breakfast made up of rolled oats, strawberries and pecans.

For lunch, the brunette beauty would munch away on a turkey burger with chipotle aioli, tomato, pickles and onions, and for dinner the TV personality would eat grilled chicken with asparagus, tomato and mozzarella.

To tide over the mid-morning and early-arvo tummy grumbles, she would also snack on assorted fruits and veggies, from cherry tomatoes, capsicum, peaches and honeydew melon.

The diet actually sounds rather delicious and perhaps more importantly, achievable.

As a meal plan, it aims to promote a quick but steady weight loss in the body by keeping carbohydrate consumption to around 40 grams per day, all the while keeping your daily calorie intake from around 1500 to 1800.

Try salads made up of colourful veggies and lean meats. This tuna carpaccio with Asian salad recipe will do the trick!

The moment that broke Liz Hayes

Liz Hayes couldn’t hold back tears after talking to a retired police officer who recalled the terrifying moment convicted murderer Roger Rogerson tried to kill him.
Loading the player...

60 Minutes reporter Liz Hayes has had her fair share of tough interviews but this one was particularly emotional.

Speaking to retired undercover drug squad detective Michael Drury, tears welled up as he recalled the moments after he was shot in his home following his rejection of a bribe from Roger Rogerson, former officer turned murderer.

30 years ago, Rogerson asked Drury to tamper with evidence in a case against Melbourne heroin dealer Alan Williams.

He told Liz: “I knew if I reported Rogerson for attempting to bribe me, perhaps my life was in danger… I became edgy. I had a premonition and a very strong feeling that my life was in serious danger.”

His instincts were right. On June 6, 1984, shots were fired through Drury’s kitchen window while he was feeding his daughter. His wife and other daughter were in the other room.

“I remember getting up and I could see the blood down this side of the wall,” he recalled.

Michael Drury

Drury was shot and told his wife and kids to get in the bedroom and stay there. “My only regret was both my daughters were babies and they were both crying and all I wanted to do was go kiss them… That’s all I wanted to do and just stop them from crying.”

Both Drury and Hayes got emotional and struggled to hold back the tears.

Following the shooting, Drury was in a coma for 10 days. When he woke, he told police that he believed it was Rogerson and notorious hitman Chris Flannery who attempted to kill him.

Rogerson was then charged with conspiring to commit murder and trying to bribe a police officer but he was let off with an acquittal.

Murdered uni student Jamie Gao

The 60 Minutes interview aired after Rogerson and detective Glen McNamara were yesterday found guilty of the murder of 20-year-old Sydney uni student Jamie Gao, and their involvement in the supply of 2.78kg of ice.

Rogerson and McNamara will be sentenced in August.
