Woman terrified after spotting ‘ghost’s face’ in photo

There’s no explanation for this one...

A family is spooked after spotting a ghostly face in a photo taken on an iPhone.

Ciara O’Callaghan from Ireland had her family over and her niece took an accidental photo of the ceiling, but she looked back at it, she noticed something extremely creepy.

“My brother Glenn came down from Sligo and I took a picture of him with my niece Carly and nephew Sean in the kitchen,” she told the Irish Mirror.

“My niece took the phone from me to pass it over but it took a photo of the ceiling by accident.

“I didn’t take any notice until I looked though the photos again.”

What’s even creepier is that when she uploaded it to Facebook, it gave her the option of actually tagging the face.

Ciara is a self-confessed sceptic so she played around the contrast on Photoshop to identify it.

“To try to find a logical explanation my brother-in-law got the photo and took it into Photoshop, where he changed the colours, darkened it and increased the contrast,” she explained.

Ciara continued: “Rather than show the logical explanation we were hoping for, it seemed to simply further the level of mystery.

“We don’t have anybody who has a face remotely similar to this one in terms of dimensions or physical appearance.

“There is nobody else that looks like that and it’s just extremely strange.”

Very weird!

Michael Jackson’s family respond to fresh claims he kept pics of naked children

Paris, Taj, and Jermaine Jackson have retaliated to claims her dad Michael kept photos of naked children at his Neverland home.

The seventh anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death is on Saturday, but it’s unlikely to be a time of happy memories of the King of Pop.

This week, footage of a police warrant revealed bizarre items in Michael Jackson’s Neverland home, including stuffed animals, naked photos of boys in their teens or even younger, and a signed photo of Macaulay Culkin.

There were other items found that include drugs to treat sex addiction, videos of men, women, boys and girls in various pornographic guises, life-size Superman and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider mannequins, children’s dolls and arcade games.

The footage was from a raid in November 2003 which showed a secret closet at the back of Michael’s bedroom that was closed with three different locks.

Michael’s Neverland home

The video, leaked by online tabloid Radar was used at his trial for child-molestation charges in 2005.

The pop singer went to trial for multiple child sexual assault charges but he declared not guilty. He was found dead in his home in 2009 at the age of 50.

His daughter Paris, 18, 42-year-old nephew Taj, and brother Jermaine, have slammed the claims as false.

Paris wrote a series of tweets:

Paris Jackson

Her cousin Taj also weighed in on the matter:

Taj Jackson

Michael’s brother Jermaine tweeted for people to let Michael rest.

Jermaine Jackson

The Jackson estate released a statement, saying: “Those who continue to shamelessly exploit Michael via sleazy internet “click bait” ignore that he was acquitted by a jury in 2005 on every one of the 14 salacious charges brought against him in a failed witch hunt.”

“Michael remains just as innocent of these smears in death as he was in life even though he isn’t here to defend himself. Enough is enough.”

Coconut oil: Miracle elixir or trendy fad?

It’s become a staple of the alternative wellness movement, but not everyone is convinced that the oil of this tropical nut lives up to the hype.

It’s become a staple of the alternative wellness movement, but not everyone is convinced that the oil of this tropical nut lives up to the hype.

If you believe the hype, coconut oil is a miracle food. Touted as the latest healthy oil, it’s being used liberally in everything from smoothies, salads and raw desserts to cooking, skincare and hair treatments.

Supermodel Miranda Kerr is said to consume it daily, Pete Evans extols its benefits in his Paleo cooking and it’s a staple of Sarah Wilson’s sugar-free movement, too. There are books devoted to its alleged healing properties.

Proving just how fashionable it has become, Nielsen data shows that there has been a 165 per cent increase in the purchase of coconut oil products by Australian households in 2014/15 compared to two years previously. Now, more than one in 10 homes has it in their cupboards – more so in the under-35s.

When a pricey jar of oil moves from niche speciality and health food stores to the shelves of Coles and Woolworths, you know it’s become mainstream. Retailers also like it because it has a good shelf-life, which is due to its high saturated fat content. Yet is coconut oil really all it’s cracked up to be?

Coconut oil fits in with the low-carb, high-fat movement that has had some popularity – think Atkins, Paleo, ketogenic, Banting and Scarsdale. You may come across some recipes promoted as part of these diets calling for large amounts of coconut oil – such as an alternative recipe for lamingtons containing a whopping half a litre of it. That, surely, would be overdoing it, right?

In the current issue of The Australian Women’s Weekly Health magazine we go in search for answers and find health experts, chefs and coconut oil lobbyists all squabbling over the so-called tropical tonic and our findings might surprise you.

To find out more about this story, as well as other health and wellness features, pick up a copy of The Australian Women’s Weekly Health magazine on stands now with Rachael Finch on the cover.

Why am I a compulsive shopper?

We’ve all been there. You’re travelling along fine with your [insert item] when BAM! You need to buy a new one. But why are we suddenly hit with the urge to buy? Kerri Sackville investigates.
Why do we always need to buy something new

It struck again yesterday. It happens every few months. I feel good, I feel normal, life is going along just fine, and then suddenly… BAM. It hits me, out of the blue.

The urge to buy a new handbag.

It is a need. It is a force. It cannot be ignored, or even delayed. When it strikes, it must be obeyed. I need to see the compulsion through.

I have quite a few handbags, and I’ve discarded many more. I am a serial monobaggist. I will fall in love with a bag for a while, and use it every day, and think it is my perfect match. It will be the right colour and weight and size, it will have the ideal number of pockets, and it will go with all my outfits and make me feel happy and complete and whole.

Until suddenly, one day, it inexplicably doesn’t, and I need to replace it this instant.

Strangely, I’m not like this with other accessories or clothes – I will buy what I need, and often wear things till they fall apart. But bags are different. Bags are my thing.

Sometimes, I simply fall in love with a new bag, and realise it is far superior to the one I’m using now. At other times, I go to bed radiantly happy with my bag, and wake up realising it’s wrong and awful in every single way.

The bag itself hasn’t changed. It’s been loyal and served me well. It is me. I can’t commit. I have to let it go to make room for the new.

I know I’m not the only one with this issue. I have friends who buy shoes, or makeup, or even stationery supplies, every few weeks. One of my friends is obsessed with bowls, and constantly adds to her collection.

Another has at least thirty pairs of black boots, and yet still regularly scouts for better pairs.

So what is it about, this fixation with the new? Is it a harmless way to bring some pleasure into our lives, or a mild form of addiction that could get out of control?

Well, both, really. As humans we are genetically programmed to seek novelty. The mid region of our brain responds to novel stimuli by producing dopamine, the ‘feel-good’ chemical. Being exposed to new things or experiences – going overseas, for example, or browsing through bags in a store – gives us a high.

And there’s nothing wrong with this, if it is kept under control. But if we continue to seek new things or experiences, we become desensitised to the high, and our brains demand more and more dopamine to feel good.

And this can lead to compulsive shopping or drug taking or gambling or sex addiction, just to recapture the rush of that dopamine fix.

Most of us, however, are pretty safe. I know that I can enjoy my bag high every few months without ever losing control and grabbing every tote or clutch in sight.

And besides, my latest handbag is absolutely spectacular. It is the right colour, weight and size, and has the ideal number of pockets. Maybe I finally have found my perfect match after all.

Prince William jokes about Duchess Catherine’s cooking

It was date night for Wills and Kate, and the birthday boy was in full effect as teased his wife!

With Prince George and Princess Charlotte at home, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stepped out for a glamorous night, as the guests of honour for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices charity gala.

The swanky affair, A Taste of Norfolk, helped to raise funds for a new hospice, The Nook.

Looking simply flawless, 34-year-old Catherine donned a glittering Jenny Packman gown.

Instead of her signature blowout, that she had back in 2011, she wore her long brunette hair in an elegant low bun.

Royal watchers quickly recognised it as the same dress she donned back in 2011 for her very first royal engagement after she tied the knot with Prince William.

The royal couple relished their summer date, with the pair overheard telling five Michelin-star chefs their own cooking experience.

“William has to put up with my cooking most of the time,” Kate told the chefs.

Not missing a beat, William quipped, “It’s the reason I’m so skinny.”

Unlike his usual meals at home, Wills was in for treat at the gala.

Catherine wowed guests

Wednesday’s menu featured a delicious locally sourced feast prepared by some of the world’s top chefs.

The feast included squid ink cracker with Morston smoked salmon made by chef Galton Blackiston (of Morston Hall on the Norfolk coast), scallop ceviche by chef Sat Bains (Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottingham), wild sea bass by Claude Bosi (Hibiscus in London), loin of Houghton venison with summer beetroot purée by Tom Kerridge (The Hand and Flowers in Harlow) and Norfolk raspberries, strawberries, cider and blueberry coulis by Nobu’s Mark Edwards.

The exclusive event was hosted by David Cholmondeley, the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley and his wife Sarah, Marchioness of Cholmondeley, at their country home Houghton Hall in Norfolk.

As the royal patron of EACH, the charity means a lot to Catherine.

The mum-of-two has been royal patron of EACH since January 2012, and her very first public speech in March that same year was for the opening of the Treehouse, a children’s hospice opened by the charity.
