Matt Damon and Alicia Vikander walk the Australian red carpet

Both actors spent quite some time posing for selfies with super-excited fans.
Matt Damon Alicia Vikander

Seriously, how nice is Matt Damon?

Instead of walking straight down the red carpet to pose for the media, the Hollywood mega star took his time at the Aussie premiere of Jason Bourne for one very special reason.

The star of the new film wanted to make sure as many Australian fans got to have a selfie with him as possible.

And he hasn’t ruled out shooting the next film Down Under.

Matt Damon looked every inch the super spy at the premiere.

But he took time out to pose with fans, who were thrilled with meeting the star.

The Oscar-winner said he was even house hunting in Bondi when he thought The Martian was going to be filmed in Australia.

Speaking to reporters at the Sydney premiere of the fifth Bourne installment on Sunday, the actor said he “definitely wouldn’t rule out Australia.”

This young child in a wheelchair was beside himself at getting an autograph from his idol!

Even Alicia made sure she spent valuable time with the fans.

“We were going to shoot The Martian here but we couldn’t get the rebate,” Matt explained, referring to Aussie laws that changed with regards to governmental rebates for international movies being shot here.

“We were too late to get the deal so we shot in Budapest.”

Matt continued: “[Jason] goes everywhere. I never thought that he would end up in Las Vegas but he does in this one, so I definitely wouldn’t rule out Australia.”

Check out Matt’s EPIC Jason Bourne spy prank on unsuspecting bystanders in the clip below. Post continues.

Sam even turned up to the premiere, looking stunning.

And Aussie stars flocked to the red carpet to see the newest sequel to the spy thriller.

Samantha Armytage looked stunning in a black wrap dress, while The Bachelor star Tim Robards rocked a grey suit.

And former Bachie Tim Robards couldn’t resist walking a red carpet.

But the real red carpet winner on the night was Matt’s Jason Bourne co-star Alicia Vikander, who wore a stunning rust-coloured print gown.

It’s been nine years since The Bourne Ultimatum first premiered.

Luke and Cody win House Rules

The fan favourites beat out Claire and Hagan to become the first all-male team to win House Rules.
Loading the player...

Luke entered the competition to renovate his humble home in Dalby, Queensland, with his twin brother Cody hoping to prove that two boys from the bush can win a design competition despite having no experience.

When they were announced as winners Luke couldn’t contain his emotions, barely able to speak as he thanked fellow grand finalists Claire and Hagan and his brother Cody through a flood of tears.

Cody joked that now he’ll get a lifetime of free rent and that when he buys a house, he’ll get Luke over to renovate it and only give him seven days.

The two teams became great friends through the competition with Claire and Hagan, who were hoping to win for their two girls Darcy and Matilda, saying the boys were deserving winners.

“We think the boys are amazing, they’ve done a great job and they’ve proved that throughout the competition,” Claire said. “They deserve it.”

Luke and Cody before the verdict

As their final challenge, both teams had four days to create outdoor entertaining areas in each others’ houses, so Claire and Hagan headed to Dalby while Luke and Cody went south to the Mornington Peninsula.

After judges Joe Snell and Wendy Moore revealed their scores, Claire and Hagan went into the public vote ahead scoring 19 out of 20 to the boys’ 17.

But having won over the nation with their down-to-earth attitudes and country charm, larrikins Luke and Cody came out on top.

In the final challenge, the twins, who headed into the grand final on the back of three wins, were tasked with bringing a beach feel into their zone while Claire and Hagan needed to bring the feel of the bush into theirs.

With all the eliminated teams – Rob and Rose, Nathan and Daniel, Brooke and Michelle and Fil and Joe – back for the live grand final, the judges’ scores were revealed.

Claire and Hagan

Wendy and Joe Snell assessed the beach box Luke and Cody built in Claire and Hagan’s tiny Mornington Peninsula backyard.

Joe was impressed with how they utilised such a small space, giving them an eight while Wendy loved the design and the coastal colours, scoring them nine.

In Dalby, Queensland they were very impressed with Claire and Hagan’s billabong-inspired handy work.

Joe thought their design was “magical” giving them a score of nine while Wendy said the spa was breathtaking and felt “everything came together flawlessly” giving them a score of 10.

But the judges’ score were just part of the equation with the public vote leaving Luke and Cody victorious.

Congratulations guys!

Johnny Depp changes tattoos as a dig at ex Amber Heard

The new design is obviously an indication of how he feels about his former flame.
Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp has taken a very public swing at his ex Amber Heard through two major changes to his tattoos.

The first was an alteration of the tattoo that sat on his right knuckles.

See the video evidence of Johnny’s tattoo dissing Amber! Post continues.

Loading the player...

Previously the ink on his hand read “SLIM”, his estranged wife’s nickname.

But with a little bit added here and there, the tattoo now reads “SCUM”, a clear indication of what he thinks of his former lover.

But the Hollywood Vampires musician didn’t stop there.

During his marriage to the 30-year-old model, the 53-year-old actor had a photo of her inked on his upper arm in a provocative pinup pose.

BEFORE: You can just see the legs of what used to be an Amber pinup tattoo sticking out of Johnny’s shirt.

AFTER: The tattoo now, as displayed in his first interview post split.

But during a social media photo session for his first interview post split, it was clear that he wasn’t happy keeping that tatt either.

The actor sported a crude black ink patch over the spot where his leggy blonde partner used to me.

Johnny is eager to move on from Amber.

Clearly, Johnny just wanted every last reminder of the woman who accused him of domestic violence scrubbed as soon as possible, without really thinking about an adequate design to cover it.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor is no stranger to tattoo alterations.

He famously changed a tattoo that read “Winona forever,” inked in honour of his ex-fiancée Winona Ryder, to read “Wino forever”.

Crown Princess Mary has posed for a stunning photo shoot with the Australian edition of fashion bible Vogue magazine.

Mary looks beautiful in the images, which were shot by high-profile fashion photographer Mario Testino in the Danish palace.

In the accompanying interview, our Mary discusses her struggle with the idea that she is considered a role model.

“I find it difficult to speak of myself as a role model, as role models are defined by the individual,” she said. “It is what they see in a person that gives meaning or inspiration to them that makes another person a role model for them.

Mario Testino for Vogue Australia

“It’s not something I consciously think about. But at the same time, I am very aware of my role and my responsibility. If I can inspire others and if others see something in me that can motivate them, then that’s a big compliment.”

The August issue of Vogue Australia goes on sale next Monday.

Of course, Vogue isn’t the first Australian magazine to shoot Mary for its pages – The Australian Women’s Weekly featured the princess in its 80th birthday issue in 2013.

Teen girl charged with manslaughter over cruel texts

A teenage girl is facing court accused of driving her boyfriend to suicide after she allegedly sent him dozens of text messages urging him to “stop thinking about it and just do it”.

A teenage girl will stand trial on manslaughter charges relating to the suicide of her boyfriend after she allegedly sent him dozens of text messages urging him to “stop thinking about it and just do it”.

Michelle Carter, now 19, is facing manslaughter charges in New Bedford Juvenile Court over the June 2014 suicide of Conrad Roy, 18.

Text messages released by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office allegedly show a then 17-year-old Carter coaxing Roy to end his life, quoting her as telling him he would be “free” and “happy” once he was dead.

When Roy falters in his decision to end his life, Carter allegedly pushes harder, saying: “You kept pushing it off and you say you’ll do it, but you never do … You’re just making it harder on yourself by pushing it off. You just have to do it. Do you want to do it now?”

Conrad Roy

Carter also allegedly promised to look after Roy’s parents after his death, and helped him devise the method of his death, even allegedly searching the internet for the “best way” to die.

Carter’s lawyers told the court she was “brainwashed” by Roy into believing suicide was his only option.

She later wrote in a text message to another friends that she could have prevented Roy’s suicide if she wanted to, leading to the manslaughter charges.

Carter’s lawyers are arguing words alone are not enough to amount to manslaughter.

“I have not seen any case in Massachusetts where somebody was charged with manslaughter based on words alone,” Ms Carter’s appeal attorney Dana Curhan told The Washington Post.

A trial date is yet to be set. If found guilty, Carter could face up to 20 years in prison.

Texts released by prosecutors to US media outlets included:

CARTER: You can’t think about it. You just have to do it. You said you were gonna do it. Like I don’t get why you aren’t.

ROY: I don’t get it either. I don’t know.

CARTER: So I guess you aren’t gonna do it then. All that for nothing. I’m just confused. Like you were so ready and determined.

ROY: I am gonna eventually. I really don’t know what I’m waiting for but I have everything lined up.

CARTER: No, you’re not, Conrad. Last night was it. You kept pushing it off and you say you’ll do it, but you never do. It’s always gonna be that way if you don’t take action. You’re just making it harder on yourself by pushing it off. You just have to do it. Do you want to do it now?

ROY: Is it too late? I don’t know. It’s already light outside. I’m gonna go back too sleep. Love you. I’ll text you tomorrow.

CARTER: No. It’s probably the best time now because everyone is sleeping. Just go somewhere in your truck and no one is really out there right now because it’s an awkward time. If you don’t do it now you’re never gonna do it, and you can say you’ll do it tomorrow, but you probably won’t. Tonight? Love you.

ROY: Thank you.

CARTER: For what. Are you awake?

ROY: Yes.

CARTER: Are you gonna do it today?

ROY: Yes.

CARTER: Like in the day time?

ROY: Should I?

CARTER: Yeah, it’s less suspicious. You won’t think about it as much and you’ll get it over with instead of wait until the night.

ROY: Yeah then I will. Like where? Like I could go in any enclosed area.

CARTER: Go in your truck and drive in a parking lot somewhere, to a park or something. Do it like early. Do it now, like early.

ROY: Didn’t we say this was suspicious?

CARTER: No. I think night is more suspicious, a kid sitting in his car turning on the radio. Just do it. It wouldn’t be suspicious and it won’t take long.

ROY: Okay. I’m taking Holly for a walk.

CARTER: Okay.

ROY: I don’t know why I’m like this.

CARTER: Sometimes things happen and we never have the answers why.

ROY: Like, why am I so hesitant lately. Like two weeks ago I was willing to try everything and now I’m worse, really bad, and I’m LOL not following through. It’s eating me inside.

CARTER: You’re so hesitant because you keeping over thinking it and keep pushing it off. You just need to do it, Conrad. The more you push it off, the more it will eat at you. You’re ready and prepared. … you will be free and happy. No more pushing it off. No more waiting.

ROY: You’re right.

CARTER: If you want it as bad as you say you do it’s time to do it today.

ROY: Yup. No more waiting.

CARTER: Okay. I’m serious. Like you can’t even wait ’til tonight. You have to do it when you get back from your walk.

ROY: Thank you.

CARTER: For what?

ROY: Still being here.

CARTER: I would never leave you. You’re the love of my life, my boyfriend. You are my heart. I’d never leave you.

ROY: Aw.

CARTER: I love you.

ROY: Love you, too.

CARTER: When will you be back from your walk?

ROY: Like, five minutes.

CARTER: Okay. So you gonna do it?

ROY: I guess.

CARTER: Well, I want you to be ready and sure. What does that mean?

ROY: I don’t know. I’m freaking out again. I’m over thinking.

CARTER: I thought you wanted to do this. This time is right and you’re ready. You just need to do it. You can’t keep living this way. You just need to do it like you did the last time and not think about it and just do it, babe. You can’t keep doing this every day.

ROY: I do want to but I’m like freaking for my family I guess. I don’t know.

CARTER: Conrad, I told you I’ll take care of them. Everyone will take care of them to make sure they won’t be alone and people will help them get through it. We talked about this and they will be okay and accept it.

ROY: I know. I know. LOL. Thinking just drives me more crazy.

CARTER: You just need to do it, Conrad, or I’m gonna get you help. You can’t keep doing this every day.

ROY: Okay. I’m gonna do it today.

CARTER: You promise?

ROY: I promise, babe. I have to now.

CARTER: Like right now?

ROY: Where do I go?

CARTER: And you can’t break a promise. And just go in a quiet parking lot or something.

ROY: Okay.

CARTER: Go somewhere you know you won’t get caught. You can find a place. I know you can. Are you doing it now?

Later that afternoon, the conversation continued.

ROY: I’m determined.

CARTER: I’m happy to hear that.

ROY: I’m ready.

CARTER: Good because it’s time, babe. You know that. When you get back from the beach you’ve gotta go do it. You’re ready. You’re determined. It’s the best time to do it.

ROY: Okay, I will.

CARTER: Are you back?

ROY: No more thinking.

CARTER: Yes. No more thinking. You need to just do it. No more waiting.

ROY: On way back. I know where to go now.

CARTER: Where?

ROY: A parking lot. There is going to be no cars there at 9:00. So that’s when I’ll be found.

CARTER: Okay, perfect. When will you be home?

ROY: Ten minutes. Ha ha, that’s perfect.

CARTER: Okay. And, well, yeah, I don’t know.

ROY: Like, I don’t want to kill anyone else with me.

CARTER: You won’t.

At 5:08PM, Conrad returned from the beach and text messaged Carter:

ROY: I’m home.

CARTER: Okay.

ROY: Ah.

CARTER: What?

ROY: I don’t know. I’m stressing.

CARTER: You’re fine. It’s gonna be okay. You just gotta do it, babe. You can’t think about it.

ROY: Okay. Okay. I got this.

CARTER: Yes, you do. I believe in you. Did you delete the messages?

ROY: Yes. But you’re going to keep messaging me.

CARTER: I will.

ROY: Okay. Well, I’m bringing my sisters for ice cream.

CARTER: So will you do it when you get back?

ROY: Yup, I’ll go right there.

CARTER: Okay.

ROY: Love you.

CARTER: I love so much.

ROY: (Smiley face).

CARTER: 33.

ROY: Ha ha. What are you doing?

CARTER: Nothing really. Just resting.

ROY: Okay. Ha, ha I’m procrastinating.

CARTER: Yeah, ha ha, I know. Are you back?

ROY: Yup.

CARTER: So it’s time?

ROY: Oh, it’s been time.

CARTER: Are you gonna do it now?

ROY: I just don’t know how to leave them, you know.

CARTER: Say you’re gonna go the store or something.

ROY: Like, I want them to know that I love them.

CARTER: They know. That’s one thing they definitely know. You’re over thinking.

ROY: I know I’m over thinking. I’ve been over thinking for a while now.

CARTER: I know. You just have to do it like you said. Are you gonna do it now?

ROY: I still haven’t left yet, ha ha.

CARTER: Why?

ROY: Leaving now.

CARTER: Okay. You can do this.

ROY: Okay. I’m almost there.

The above is the last text message Roy sent. He was allegedly on the phone to Carter as he died.

Naturally.

Australian election still too close to call

The outcome likely won’t be known until Tuesday.

Despite opinion polls telling us for the past eight weeks that this election would be close, Australians will wake up this morning to the surprising news that the vote was so close we still don’t know who has won. And we probably won’t know for sure until Tuesday.

What we do know is that voters turned against Malcolm Turnbull and his government, many because of the scare campaign Labor ran on Medicare, but some also because of the Government’s proposed changes to superannuation, which would hurt self-funded retirees.

When the Australian Electoral Commission stopped counting at 2am this morning, Bill Shorten’s Labor was ahead in 72 seats, Malcolm Turnbull’s Coalition in 66 seats, and the minor parties and independents looked set to pick up five seats. Seven seats were still too close to call.

These numbers are likely to move around when the count starts again on Tuesday, particularly once the early votes and postal votes are counted. To win government in its own right, Labor or the Coalition need to win at least 76 seats.

And if neither can get that number on their own, which is a hung parliament, one of the major parties will have to rely on support from the minor parties and independents to form a minority government.

This is what Julia Gillard did in 2010, although she struck a formal agreement with the Greens and country independents. Both Shorten and Turnbull have ruled out doing a similar deal.

When there is a hung parliament, the party that was in government before the election is usually given the first chance to form a new one. But it can only hold on to government if enough minor party and independent MPs back it when the opposition inevitably calls for a vote of no confidence.

This is one of the untidy scenarios Australians can expect to happen on the political stage in coming weeks.

We can also expect the supporters of former Prime Minister Tony Abbott to cause trouble within the Coalition, even if it does end up winning government, and to blame Malcolm Turnbull for the loss or near-loss.

Conservative commentator Andrew Bolt, a big supporter of Tony Abbott’s, has wasted no time calling for Turnbull’s resignation. And Abbott’s former chief of staff, Peta Credlin, unsurprisingly described the election outcome as a disaster for Turnbull. There’s undoubtedly plenty more of that to come.

On the flip side, the result is tremendous for Labor leader Bill Shorten, even if he doesn’t make it to becoming the Australia’s next prime minister. Before the count commenced, Labor was privately telling journalists that it expected to win around ten seats; at this point it appears to have added around 15 seats to its tally.

That’s good news for Shorten, although the Labor leadership automatically goes up for grabs if the party does end up losing. And there are a couple of ambitious MPs waiting in the wings such as Anthony Albanese and Tanya Plibersek.

The other success stories of election night include the Nick Xenophon Team, whose candidate Rebekha Sharkie beat disgraced former Liberal minister Jamie Briggs. NXT also appears likely to pick up three Senate seats. Pauline Hanson is back as a Senator for Queensland, and there may be other senators elected in her name in NSW and WA.

Jacqui Lambie is also back, but many of her crossbench colleagues from the previous parliament have been defeated. It also seems likely Derryn Hinch will be elected as a senator for Victoria.

Pity the prime minister who has to negotiate with that gallery of rogues to get their legislation through the Senate.

Disheartening as that all is, there is a stellar batch of women entering the parliament after yesterday’s poll.

Xenophon’s Rebekha Sharkie has already been mentioned. Labor’s Linda Burney will be the first Indigenous woman elected to the House of Representatives. Three other new Labor women were also elected: Emma Husar, a disability advocate and mother of three; Susan Templeman, a former radio journalist; and Justine Keay, a former city council alderman.

Former lobbyist, adviser and columnist Nicolle Flint, the only woman chosen by the Liberals to run in a safe seat, was also elected.

Along with the recommencement of vote counting in coming days, there will be a lot of head-scratching over what this election result really means. Did Shorten win over voters or did Turnbull lose them. Was Labor’s Medicare scare campaign unfair when Tony Abbott’s carbon tax scare campaign was just as misleading in 2010.

And given the growing number of people who did not vote for Labor or the Coalition this time around, is there any chance the major parties can win back the trust of the people.

Expect to hear a lot more of that question in particular, in the days and weeks to come.

10 food switches your waistline will love this winter

These cold weather comfort foods are low in calories, hearty and healthy. Result!

Between the uninviting weather outside, cravings for comfort food and a desire to lounge around and hibernate for the foreseeable future, it’s clear to see how winter weight gain can happen.

But, if you make a few simple switches to your routine now, you’ll sail through the season looking and feeling great.

We’ve scoured the shelves to find the 10 food swaps that your waistline will love this winter.

Switch one: Change potato for sweet potato

Higher in fibre and vitamins A and C, sweet potato is more desirable that Desiree (we couldn’t resist) when it comes to selecting a spud. They contain fewer calories and carbs overall making them a healthy and nutritious option for hot chips, roast potatoes, shepherd’s pie, soup and baked potato.

Switch two: Pick peppermint tea over hot chocolate

If you’re looking for a winter warming drink, make it a peppermint tea instead of an (admittedly delicious) hot chocolate. Herbal teas, such as peppermint, are far friendlier to the waistline, containing just one to two calories per serve, as opposed to hot chocolate’s 77 calories. Sold.

Switch three: Stick with salads, just make ‘em warm

Summer salads needn’t be packed away with your swimsuits. Just make them fit for winter. An easy one that works as a hot lunch or side dish for dinner is a roasted vegetable salad. Bake some squash, sweet potato, red onion, Brussels, kale and beetroot. Then throw together and drizzle with olive oil.

Switch four: Snack on popcorn, not chips

Winter sees the return of our favourite TV families, which calls for snacks. Instead of working your way through a bag of chips (and 956 calories) per episode, pick at some plain, air-popped popcorn (that clocks in at just 31 calories) whilst you check out the latest pursuits of the Proudmans.

Switch five: Pass over pasta for zucchini noodles

Pasta meals are quick and easy after a long day. But, one small change you can make is to switch the pasta base for zucchini noodles. You’ll save yourself around 114 calories per serve. Plus it’s easy to do on the cheese grater if you don’t have a fancy spiraliser. Spag bol with a twist coming right up.

Switch six: Go for poached pears instead of chocolate

Satisfy your sweet tooth with poached pears. They’re rich in fibre, vitamin C and folic acid making them a nutritious treat, particularly for pregnant women. Yes, fruit contains natural sugar, but it also has a higher nutritional value than chocolate. Disclaimer: we still eat chocolate. Just not every day!

Switch seven: Choose chili over a pot pie

Looking for a winter dinner that’s hot, hearty and low on calories? Go for chili con carne. The classic, low-fat dish features about half the calories that a traditional pot pie does. The meal is also high in vitamin A, iron and vitamin B12; plus, if you serve it with brown rice, you’ll get extra brownie points.

Switch eight: Pick porridge over cereal

Breakfast cereal is a secret calorie hoarder, you know. An average bowl contains a huge 379 calories. Porridge, on the other hand, only features 50 calories. Harvard University has also said that it’s the key to a healthy heart. Plus, it’s delicious and warm and welcoming on a dark, grey wintery morning.

Switch nine: Opt for kiwi fruits, not oranges

Cold and flu season has us all desperately topping up our vitamin C levels in a bid to ward off the sniffles. But you might be surprised to learn that one kiwi fruit gives you more than twice your recommended daily allowance of vitamin C, making it a more powerful protector than oranges.

Switch 10: Trade in instant mash for cauliflower mash

Instant mash has its time-saving place, but at 97 calories per serve, it’s not exactly waist-friendly. Cauliflower mash by comparison is just as delicious and far more healthy and nutritious. Steam or boil it as you usually would, then mash and serve, keeping butter, milk and cream to a minimum.
