Sylvia uploaded a gorgeous photo of the two of them grinning, and holding up her hand with her new sparkler.
She captioned it: “How’s this for a framer?! A couple of weeks ago Pete popped the question, and I said yes, OF COURSE!!! We’ve had the most wonderful time celebrating with great mates. We couldn’t be happier (check the grins) and so excited to share the news with everyone.”
Pete’s brother Karl and Lisa Wilkinson called Sylvia this morning for a chat on Today.
The newsreader was giddy with excitement, saying: “We’ve got a wedding to plan! He’s very romantic and he was true to that. We ended up in a vineyard, he was taking some photographs, and I turned around and there he was on one knee.”
Peter brought the ring all the way from Australia, so he had to keep things secret.
“He kept separating himself from me when we’d go through security scans at airports, he was afraid they’d get him to pull it out. Can you believe he did it all by himself?,” she said.
The two met while both on the weekend edition of Today and sparks were flying straight away.
There has been a shock twist in a Queensland cold case of Sharron Phillips’ disappearance, with a man pointing the finger at his own father.
The man came forward to police and revealed that he believes his late taxi driver father killed Phillips 30 years ago.
Phillips, just 20 years old at the time, ran out of petrol in Wacol, 10km from her home. After she called her boyfriend from a payphone, he came to collect but she had disappeared.
The son told Nine News that his father was supposed to drop his taxi off at the same spot Phillips was last seen.
He said he saw the taxi parked ‘suspiciously’ down a dirt lane.
“He said, ‘wait here and keep an eye out for police’ and then he reversed by car around to the back,” the man told Nine News.
He then heard the car boot close, with “loud thumping” coming from it. He tried asking his father about it, but he was quickly dismissed.
“He didn’t really acknowledge me, he just turned up the stereo and kept driving.
Days later, he said he found ‘shoes and a handbag’ in the car. When his father died in 2002, he reportedly confessed to his son what had happened.
A drain in Carole Park was dug up by police, allegedly related to the man’s confession.
Detective Acting Superintendent Damien Hansen told The Courier Mail that the story was a strong lead.
“We can say with certainty he has a reason to be in that area at that time with his work,” he said.
Earlier this year, Phillips’ sister Donna Anderson made shocking confessions that he feared it was her father, Bob Phillips, who killed her. This encouraged the taxi driver’s son to come forward.

Hollywood’s favourite golden couple, Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston, just stepped out for a good old-fashioned Aussie date night, appropriately on the Gold Coast.
The loved-up pair, who arrived Down Under on July 8, took time out from their busy schedules to have a romantic dinner date on our shores.
Tay and Tom looked super casual and relaxed, sporting stylish yet laid-back outfits.

Taylor sported a very low cut wrap dress that showed off her stunning figure, while Tom opted for jeans and a sweater in what seems to be his signature colour lately: navy blue.
Onlookers seemed to reject speculation that their romance is all for the cameras, saying the two looked very much in love indeed.
“Tom looked smitten with her as they talked softly and she giggled a lot,” one source confessed to Us Weekly.
“They were beaming as they gave warm smiles to onlookers, like any new couple who just can’t hide their feelings for each other,” they continued.
The onlooker also remarked that it looked like Tay-Tay might have been getting a bit of Aussie sun, saying her skin looked “a little more sun-kissed than usual.”
The lovebirds reportedly spent about an hour dining, before holding hands and swinging their arms as they walked back to their waiting car.
They reportedly couldn’t stop staring into each other’s eyes, as Tom, ever the gentleman, helped his lady back into the car before they sped away to their hotel.
The Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson is apparently gearing up for a major legal battle against the former owners of News of the World.
According to the Daily Mail she’s reportedly suing the business moguls for the release of footage back in 2010 purporting to show Fergie offering access to Prince Andrew in exchange for cash.
Unfortunately for the Duchess, the “businessman” offering her the deal in the footage was actually an undercover reporter for News of the World.
In the filmed encounter, it appears as if the former royal accepts a down payment of £27,000 as part of a much larger £500,000 deal to introduce the reporter to the Prince.
See the footage of Fergie’s alleged cash grab in the video below. Post continues.

But Fergie is still apparently furious over the ordeal, and she’s planning a big legal case against Rupert Murdoch’s News Group according to The Mail on Sunday.
According to the publication, the 56-year-old claims the event cost was badly damaging to her reputation, and hurt her credibility and earning potential.
Insiders allege the mother of two is desperate for cash and is riddled with debt following a number of failed business ventures in the US.
The Duchess of York believes she could be entitled to millions after the footage of the embarrassing event went global.
Sources claim Sarah feels she was entrapped and her remarks were edited to a point where she was taken out of context.
If Sarah does indeed file papers to initiate court proceedings against the media empire, it would be the first time a member of the royal family has ever sued for compensation.

The long election campaign and its aftermath are nearly over, but don’t expect the political dramas and shenanigans to end once the final vote is counted.
While you’ve been getting on with your life since election day, officials have carefully been counting the votes to determine who actually won.
And even though they’re still not finished, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten announced on Sunday that there are not enough uncounted votes left for Labor to win, meaning that Malcolm Turnbull and the Coalition had won the election.
At this point, the Coalition had 74 of the 76 seats it needed to hold government, whereas Labor had only 66, while 5 remained undecided.
Why has it taken so long to count the votes? Well it always takes this long, but we don’t notice because it usually becomes obvious on election night when around 70 per cent of the votes have been counted that one side or the other has won enough seats.
But this time the result was so close that neither side had won enough seats on Saturday night, meaning that we had to wait for all the votes to be counted. This can take more than a week because the electoral commission has to give enough time for postal votes to get through the mail, which as we all know is not the quickest way to get anything delivered.
So what happens now? Malcolm Turnbull will visit the Governor-General and advise he has the numbers to form government.
But before he does that, Turnbull, as leader of the Liberal Party, will have to reach a coalition agreement with Barnaby Joyce, the leader of the Nationals.
This is done each time the Liberals and Nationals agree to work together as a coalition. The agreement usually involves a commitment for the Nationals to have a certain number of seats in the ministry, and for the rural-based party to have certain portfolios such as agriculture and trade.
Once the PM has reached this agreement with the Nationals and been to see the Governor-General, he will announce a new ministry and get back into the business of running the country. This will happen in the next week or so.
Although supporters of former prime minister Tony Abbott have called for him to be returned to the ministry, Turnbull has made it clear he intends to promote younger MPs when replacing the two junior ministers who were voted out at the election.
This makes it likely some of Abbott’s younger supporters will be made ministers by the PM instead. However this won’t put an end to the troubles that Malcolm Turnbull has on his hands.
Even with the promise of a few more of their own being promoted to the new ministry, Abbott’s supporters are gearing up for a battle with Turnbull over the way the national vote will be held on same sex marriage. Those MPs don’t want gay marriage to be legalised even if the Australian community votes yes.
The Abbott camp also wants the PM to back down on the changes to superannuation announced in the 2016 budget.
And then there are the demands Labor will make on the re-elected Turnbull Government.
Labor leader Bill Shorten said on Sunday that he expected the Coalition to keep the promises it made to the Australian people during the election campaign, but that Labor would stand up for Medicare, make sure schools are properly funded and give priority to Australian jobs.
Given that some of the Coalition’s election promises were to freeze Medicare rebates and reduce school funding it will be interesting to see how Labor intends to keep the Government to these promises while simultaneously opposing them.
In addition to the Labor opposition, the re-elected Turnbull government will also have to deal with an assortment of independent and minor party MPs that were elected just over a week ago.
This will be particularly challenging in the Senate, where the Government will have to either do deals with Labor to get legislation passed or win the votes of a bunch of small party senators.
The second option will mean having to reach agreement with Nick Xenophon and his senators, Pauline Hanson and hers, as well as Jacqui Lambie and Derryn Hinch.
The long election campaign and its aftermath are nearly over, but don’t expect the political dramas and shenanigans to end once the final vote is counted.
Malcolm Turnbull may have finally won the election, but his challenges are only just beginning.
