Marja and Sophie leave The Bachelor

Richie says goodbye to two more girls in a dramatic rose ceremony.
Loading the player...

Basketball, biffs and ballroom dancing! Thursday’s episode of The Bachelor was packed with drama.

Keira and Eliza locked horns in an epic smack-down which saw Eliza call Keira out over being ungrateful for time with Richie.

“I was feeling you were a bit ungrateful,” Eliza said when Keira returned home from a romantic solo date with Richie.

“Why would you say that? That’s ridiculous. I can’t believe you said that! You clearly don’t know me, next time be quiet. Why would you say that in this kind of moment when I’m feeling really good,” the blonde bombshell fumed.

In the end, Richie sent Marja and Sophie home. Woman’s Day caught up with the two ladies to talk all things Bachie!

Marja has already met someone!

Marja, 34, yoga instructor

What were your first impressions

It was really quite a blur. I remember thinking he looked quite handsome and thinking that I did the most talking. It was all very quick.

Were you happy to see it was Richie? And is he your type?

I was happy to see him. I didn’t watch him last season but seeing him for the first time, I thought he was handsome. But as we moved through the show, I realised Richie isn’t my type – we’re just not compatible.

Was there something missing?

First and foremost I think I’m after someone where we have chemistry. Chemistry is something you can build but with us it really wasn’t there. I think it fizzled. You could just tell. It just wasn’t there.

Were you disappointed to be sent home so early on?

I wasn’t upset because I honestly didn’t like him. I was upset to leave the show!

Would you have stayed on if you hadn’t been eliminated?

I think I would have, I’m of the mindset – everyone goes in for the intention of love. But if it is not there for you… there are also a lot of other reasons to be on the show. For me it was the experience and meeting new people! I always give everything a go!

What were your thoughts on the girls?

Some were very loud and some were quiet. Different people deal with pressure in all kinds of ways.

Are the girls the same as they are portrayed on the show?

I feel like it is real in the sense that is real reactions and emotions but it is not a real situation. I mean it is very weird and odd! The way you see the girls is real – they are playing off the drama. I was closet to Janey, Alex and Eliza – they’re all quite kooky and crazy.

Anyone you didn’t get on with?

There were a lot girls I wouldn’t be friends with if I wasn’t on the show, but got I along with all of them. We’d all cook for each other on Sundays!

Relive last night’s highlights in the player below. Post continues after the video…

Any secret annoying habits?

I napped a lot! So maybe I was the lazy one? Everyone joked that I was on a yoga retreat.

What’s it like on the Bachie set? We hear everyone is always eating!

We get to buy the food we want. The girls complain about the chocolate, but they order it! There was a book with a pen – and you write down what you want. I wanted to remain healthy and it felt like I was at home.

Who do think will win?

Alex, Nikki or Megan. They got a lot of time with him. You can tell with body language, just the amount of time he spent with them, he was keen on them.

Have you met anyone special?

I have met someone since the show! It is amazing but it is still early.

Sophie thinks Nikki will win!

Sophie, 28, customer support manager

What were your first impressions of Richie?

He’s very handsome, really well dressed and well spoken. Actually, he had really great eye contact which is so important! I find that’s really rare these days in men. He is just a lovely genuine person.

Was Richie what you expected?

He’s exactly how I thought he’d be. I watched him on The Bachelorette and he’s 100% what we see!

Were you happy that is was him?

Yeah. It was nice to see a familiar face!

Did you think you’d go so early?

No one goes in knowing what to expect. I figured early on that I didn’t have a connection with him and I guess he felt that too. I’m really going to miss the girls but I was happy to go home to see my family.

Watch Richie hang out with Woman’s Day in the player below. Post continues…

Loading the player...

What are the girls like?

The other girls all have beautiful qualities individually! There is a bit of drama but that has to be expected when you throw 22 women vying for one man. Obviously some ruffled feathers more than others. But I’ve made some lifelong friends. Nikki was my bestie in the house. I really like Rachel and Faith. Also Janey is so beautiful and innocent and Eliza is just so courageous.

Who do you think will win?

Nikki is my girl! I fell in love with her and I could just feel their chemistry.

Have you met anyone?

Still very single. I’ve been laying low – just focusing on family and friends.

Mum-of-six opens up about ‘regretting’ keeping twin pregnancy

“I love them – of course I do. But there were days when they were younger that I honestly regretted having them."
Twin baby feet.

A mother of six has opened up in a candid interview about sometimes ‘regretting’ having her twin sons.

Dublin woman Jeanne Measom spoke to The Sun about struggling to cope with the birth of her twin sons, Rowan and Jude, at 42.

“I love them—of course I do. But there were days when they were younger that I honestly regretted having them,” said Jeanne, “That might make me sound like a bad mum.”

“One night when they were 10 days old, I stood watching them both finally sleeping at the same time,” she told The Sun, “Instead of the warm fuzzy feeling of love and pride I’d felt with my other children regret burnt inside me. I asked myself what had I done.”

“Had I made the wrong choice in not terminating the pregnancy? I felt guilty for even thinking it.”

“I realised there was just no time for that same emotional attachment,” she said.

Continuing, the Jeanne revealed how she became very overwhelmed and reaching a breaking point as the twins grew older.

“Around their first birthday, I sat in the car with them, listening to both of them wailing and thinking I can’t do this any more. Staring at them in the rear-view mirror dark thoughts rushed though my mind: I could give them up for adoption, or I could kill us all…” she said, “They were just fleeting thoughts – thankfully. But I felt like I was drowning. I desperately needed help.”

Jeanne, now 51, revealed she is doing a lot better and denies that her confession makes her a ‘bad mother’.

“I’m an honest mother and the truth that no parent of multiples likes to admit is this: having twins is unrelentingly hard work.”

The internet is very mad at Clint Eastwood’s choice for president

Clint has found himself in some hot water again.
Clint Eastwood.

The internet isn’t very happy with actor Clint Eastwood’s latest comments about the US presidential race.

In an interview with Esquire, the 86-year-old took the time to defend Republican nominee Donald Trump’s actions during his campaign.

“He’s said a lot of dumb things,” said Eastwood, “So have all of them. Both sides. But everybody — the press and everybody’s going, ‘Oh, well, that’s racist,’ and they’re making a big hoodoo out of it. Just f—ing get over it. It’s a sad time in history.”

“Everybody’s walking on eggshells,” said Eastwood of the younger generation’s ‘sensitive’ reaction to Trump’s campaign, “We see people accusing people of being racist and all kinds of stuff. When I grew up, those things weren’t called racist.”

When asked if he was willing to say whether he was voting for Trump or Clinton, Eastwood said, “I’d have to go for Trump … you know, ’cause she’s declared that she’s gonna follow in [President Barack] Obama’s footsteps. There’s been just too much funny business on both sides of the aisle.”

Of course, the internet—Twitter specifically—didn’t take to his sentiments.

Is Viennetta on a stick coming to a store near you soon?

Yes please!
Viennetta.

Anyone who’s ever thrown a last-minute party (or had a Sunday night dinner with their parents) will know exactly how delicious a Viennetta cake is. The creamy classic, which has remained humbly unchanged since its initial release, has been the star of many a social gathering in Australia. Which is why Aussie fans of the Viennetta might find this news both exciting and distressing.

A few ice cream-fans around the world have unearthed images of a ‘single serve’ version of our favourite dessert—Viennetta on a stick.

See for yourself!

Unfortunately for us Aussies, Streets have “no plans” to bring this tasty and convenient treat to our shores. The above version was found in Sichuan, China, whilst the below was found in Malta:

Those who have been lucky enough to stumble across this rare and delicious ice cream report that it shares the same formula as the original and costs $2.95 AUD.

If you’re like us and are outraged at Australia’s exclusion from the Viennetta-on-a-stick circle, drop Unilever a note at their website.

The new trailer for Mariah’s World is here and it’s WILD!

It’s Mariah Carey’s world, we just live in it.
Loading the player...

December 4 cannot come soon enough!

As the release date for the diva’s upcoming eight part docu-series is announced, another trailer (above) has been dropped and it is all kinds of incredible.

From planning her wedding with James Packer to making prank phone calls – the 46-year-old is in fine form in the latest one minute teaser.

“I’d rather make everything fun! Is this a normal outfit that people wear? I don’t know but I’m at home and this is what I wear,” the mother-of-four proclaims as she reclines on a lounger in a sparkling corset.

Despite claiming her third wedding would be a more low-key affair, Mimi can be heard brainstorming about “white tigers and albino elephants” all taking part during her upcoming nuptials to the Aussie billionaire.

In the new trailer, Mimi can be seen trying on wedding dresses! (Image/E!)

“We’re going to get Noah’s Ark at your wedding. I promise,” an event’s coordinator can be heard reassuring her on the other end of the call.

Never one to miss a beat, the 46-year-old hangs up the phone and giggled, “that guy doesn’t know that I was joking!”

The show promises to unveil the real Mariah in all her glory – the weird, the wild, the whacky!

“There is no typical day in Mimi’s life,” she muses.

On Wednesday, the heartbreaker hitmaker appeared at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in LA to talk about her upcoming reality show.

“It’s my life. It feels like a documentary. I don’t even watch reality [TV]. I don’t even know what reality is,” she explained.

She also hinted her ex-husband Nick Cannon, who she shares five-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan with, might also be making a cameo.

“He’s cool about being on the show and coming around with the kids and very supportive.”

“Is this a normal outfit that people wear? I don’t know but I’m at home and this is what I wear!” (Image/E!)

Although James is nowhere to be seen in the latest trailer, Mimi confirmed he will be on the show.

“Yes, he’s part of the series,” she revealed at Wednesday’s press conference.

“He’s not an entertainer, that’s not what he does, so I can’t expect him to change his whole thing. He’s a businessman and that is his world and I don’t try to permeate that,” she added.

Mariah’s World will premiere on the E! channel from December 4*

Hundreds gather to say goodbye to Stuart Kelly

Our thoughts are with the Kelly family at this time.

Hundreds gathered today to pay tribute to the late Stuart Kelly, brother of one-punch victim Thomas Kelly, after his unexpected death last week.

His parents, Ralph and Kathy, and sister Madeleine, remembered him fondly at a funeral service held at Sydney’s Kings School.

Mourners present at the event included Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, wife Lucy Turnbull and Premier Mike Baird, as well as hundreds of Stuart’s friends.

“Keep our beautiful boys in your hearts… go home and hug your children,” Kathy Kelly said in the same place she had farewelled her other teenage son just four years ago.

“Even though you were my little brother, I began to look at you in awe,” sister Madeleine said. “You were taller than me, bigger than me, funnier than me and sometimes even more mature than me and always took life head on.”

Ralph Kelly said Stuart’s determination “to make a difference in this world” constantly amazed him.

19-year-old Stuart took his own life in Mona Vale, Sydney last week. The catalyst for his heartbreaking act was reportedly the bullying he received for his family’s efforts to campaign for tougher laws against drunken violence in NSW.

Stuart was just 14 when his brother and “best friend” Thomas Kelly died after a random coward punch attack in Kings Cross in 2012. It was perpetrated by a drunk Kieran Loveridge.

Since the senseless loss of 19-year-old Thomas the Kelly family began the Kelly Foundation and have been campaigning for stricter laws for alcohol related violence in NSW.

On Tuesday Dr Tim Hawkes, headmaster at The King’s School where Stuart once attended, made the announcement that Stuart’s body had been found dead on the Northern Beaches. Since then reports have surfaced speculating Stuart had been tormented by online trolls furious about Sydney’s lockout laws.

“This is the second great tragedy to affect the Kelly family,” Dr Hawkes said.

“The exact circumstances surrounding his death are not known, however, it is enough to know that we have lost a member of our community and therefore our thoughts and prayers go out to Kathy and Ralph Kelly and their daughter Madeleine.”

Ralph Kelly took to Facebook to express his heartache.

“The most painful goodbyes are the ones that are never said and never explained”, Ralph wrote.

Thomas Kelly

There is no doubt Ralph and his wife Kelly were proud of their youngest son. Stuart was “too young” to speak right after his brother’s death but last year the young man delivered a rousing address to a media pack after the sentencing hearing for their son’s killer.

“I carry a deep scar that you cannot see. It’s always there, never leaves. It’s just below the surface of your skin, and surfaces when you least expect it,” Stuart told the crowd.

Loading the player...

“Tom never deserved to die that night, it was not meant to be his time. In fact, I believe now that it could and should have been avoided. Our family lost a son and a brother. I ask all of you to look at me, I am but one person who has been affected by violence.

“It is a sentence that I have to carry for the rest of my life. My mother, father and sister now carry this sentence. Our relatives and friends, Tom’s friends, carry this sentence.

“We are not alone, there are many many thousands of other who are directly affected by senseless violence every year. Premier (Mike Baird) will you make this promise tonight?

“Australia is an alcoholic. We need to rethink the way we drink.”

Words so powerful they will surely shape anyone’s memory of the young man.

Our thoughts are with the Kelly family during this incredibly difficult time.

Plus-size supermodel Ashley Graham’s fans unhappy she’s ‘slimming down’

Because when you're a 'plus size' model you just can't please everyone.

Model Ashley Graham just can’t win. Typically fitting into a size 16, she is already what the fashion industry brands as ‘plus-size’ and critics call ‘too ‘curvy’.

But recently the pendulum swung the other way as the twenty-eight year old was critisised by her own fans for ‘trying to look slimmer’.

An Instagram post of hers was behind the body-shaming controversy. In it Graham is seen on the set of America’s Next Top Model wearing a white crop top and skirt.

While seemingly harmless, some of the comments the post generated included, “You don’t love the skin you’re in, you want to conform to Hollywood, you believe being skinnier is prettier,” and, “You don’t make plus-size dollars anymore, you make backstabbing dollars”.

In an essay for Lenny, Graham revealed she is actually the heaviest she has been in three years.

“According to the comments, some people were upset because I appeared to be slimmer. (Knowing my angles is one thing, but I must be a magician to make people think I went from a size 14 to a size 6 in a week!),” she wrote.

“Having been a model for sixteen years, I know my angles, just like we all know our favourite filters and lighting and our good sides. I pick the photos I like best.”

Graham also called out the pattern of women judging other women based on how they look and said it was only human-nature for everyone to put their best foot forward online.

“No matter how many empowerment conferences, TED talks, and blog posts are out there, women keep tearing one another down over physical appearance. Body shaming isn’t just telling the big girl to cover up. It’s trying to shame me for working out.

“It’s giving ‘skinny’ a negative connotation. It’s wanting me to be plus size, or assuming I’m pregnant because of some belly bulge.”

The model is best known for being the first ‘plus-size’ woman to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine’s swimsuit edition.

You can read her entire essay here.

“Cheat day” PJs reinforce damaging messages about food

The concept of "cheat day" is universally unhelpful. So we really don't need it on our pajamas, or anywhere else.

We’re all familiar with the term “cheat day”. You’ve been super healthy all week and it’s time to relax your strict regime and treat yourself to all the “bad” food you have been resisting.

It’s a pretty normal pattern. But that doesn’t mean that it’s a healthy one. And it’s certainly not something that should be reinforced.

So it is disappointing to see that a British retailer, New Look, deemed it appropriate to put the slogan “cheat day” on to a pyjama top, along with a cartoon picture of a slice of pizza.

New Look have insisted that the pyjamas are just a “tongue-in-cheek novelty item” (they are for women, not children) but the damaging message that they reinforce is nothing to joke about.

Zoe Nicholson is a dietitian and owner of figureate consulting. She is also the co-founder of the moderation movement, who promote the principals of health at every size. She told the Weekly Online that she isn’t at all impressed with the pyjamas or the concept of “cheat day”.

“It is reinforcing the idea that there are ‘good’ and ‘bad’ foods. Implying that pizza is part of a ‘cheat day’ implies that pizza is something that’s bad and you shouldn’t be having,” she explains.

Zoe notes that the concept is problematic because restricting food is a key risk factor for over eating or bingeing.

“People swing from being ‘good’ and being ‘bad’ and then often end up overeating,” she says.

The concept of a cheat day encourages people to overeat, which can leave them feeling physically uncomfortable. But on top of that, Zoe says that it can be emotionally damaging too.

“It leads to a cycle of guilt,” she says.

Worse still, if we are ever to break away from the culture of “diets” we need to ensure that our children don’t inherit our warped ideas about food.

Zoe agrees, she says that kids start picking up on what their parents think about certain foods from a really early age. And the concept of “cheat day” is not something we want to pass on.

“It normalises diet culture – the idea that if we are good we can cheat,” she says.

“It’s something we need to move away from.”

And, if we are to move away from dieting culture then the last thing we need is “cheat day” pyjamas.
