Survivor’s Lee: ‘I was going to be on The Bachelor’

There’s already plenty of talk about island romance on Australian Survivor, and doting dad Lee Carseldine, 40, has told OK! that he’s one of the castaways open to finding someone special on the show.

This isn’t the first time the former pro cricketer, who now works as an aerial photographer, has considered love in front of the cameras.

‘I tried out for the first season of The Bachelor,’ admits the father to 10-year-old Jake and eight-year-old Sam, explaining that his quest to find a lady is still ongoing, and that his perfect partner would be ‘active and healthy, with an intelligent and fun personality’.

With his two young boys watching on closely from his Queensland home, there is one thing Lee insists he won’t do on the show – and that’s compromise his values for the sake of the game. ‘I want to work hard, stay loyal and not backstab anyone,’ he shares, adding that going on Survivor Australia is ‘all for my two boys’. ‘I’m always teaching them to get out of their comfort zone, so I thought this would be a good example.’

Exclusive: Roxy Jacenko on her toughest year yet

The glamorous socialite had it all, but within two weeks her world had crumbled. Her husband was in jail and she was in the fight of her life.

In just two weeks, the successful businesswoman – best known for her appearance on Celebrity Apprentice – has lost her husband Oliver Curtis, 30, to a jail sentence for conspiracy to commit insider trading and come face-to-face with a breast cancer diagnosis.

“Oli went to jail on the 24th of June, and on the 7th of July, I had cancer,” says Roxy, 36, who is juggling running three businesses with caring for daughter Pixie, five, and son Hunter, two.

The brave mother spoke to us following her surgery to remove the cancerous lump.

“I’ll show you my injury,” she volunteers, lifting up her top to reveal her left breast. A deep purple incision runs from her armpit to the underside of her breast.

Until recently, Roxy was living a fairytale. A multi-million dollar lifestyle, handsome younger husband, two adorable kids, and a stunning home in the trendy locale of Sydney’s Bondi Beach.

The family in happier times.

Roxy shared a clear message, sharing this tribute of her husband on Instagram, penning, “We ❤️ You.”

“I had all the trimmings that make people go, ‘Wow! She’s living the life.’ But the reality is there is not one person, not one family, who is perfect – and I’m no different,” says Roxy.

“But I’ve never been one to be ‘woe is me’… I have a responsibility to the children. They don’t want  to come home to see me in a blithering mess. It’s my duty  to hold it together.”

The Sweaty Betty director put on a brave face as she tackled her surgery.

With her daughter, the brave mum shows her post-op scars.

Meanwhile the PR maven allowed 60 Minutes to shadow her and giving them access inside the hospital during her life-changing surgery.

On Sunday night’s tell-all interview, Roxy revealed she forgoed the doctor’s advice of having a mastectomy and, after seeking a second opinion, has instead had a lumpectomy which will be followed up with radiation.

“I wasn’t in the headspace to make rash decisions. I suppose, unlike everything else in my life where I’ll go full pelt, I wanted to do this one thing in a phased approach,” Roxy explained to Allison Langdon.

It was a family affair for Cate Blanchett when she and her husband, Andrew Upton, took their four kids for a dip in Victoria’s Peninsula Hot Springs recently.

The couple, who tied the knot in 1997, had their three doting sons Dashiell, 14, Roman, 12, and Ignatius, eight, on hand to look after 18-month old Edith as they splashed about in the hot springs.

Edith, who Andrew and Cate adopted in March 2015, looked to be loving the adventure with her family.

“We actually began the conversation a very long time ago, after our first son was born and he’s about to turn 14, and then we just had two other children and it sort of dropped off the radar,” Cate reflected while speaking at the Women in the World’s Tina Brown panel in November of welcoming a fourth child into the fold.

“But I felt we had space, enough emotional room in our hearts and we’re privileged enough to have the capacity to have another child, so it wasn’t about biology,” she added.

Cate described the 18-month-old as a “blessing” to their family.

“There wasn’t a desire to have a girl necessarily – gender of the children has never been particularly important to me, it’s more about their spirit,” the actress has reflected.

“There’s a lot of children out there who don’t have the good fortune that our biological children do, so it’s wonderful. It’s wonderful to welcome a little girl into our fold.”

The Oscar winner looked stylish in a black one-piece swimsuit.

“You don’t know anything about the child you’re going to meet. It’s always the first time. Always,” the star explained to UK’s Harper’s Bazaar of the adoption process.

“We got a phone call earlier this year and we adopted a little girl. You’re on the list and then you get the call,” she explained to the publication at the time.

Cate and Andrew adopted Edith from America as the adoption process in Australia is far more complex.

Prince Harry sends funny birthday message to Usain Bolt

The young royal found a very cheeky way to send his best wishes to the Olympic champion.

When you’re the greatest runner in the world, you’re bound to get more than a few birthday message from high places.

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has received a fun message to celebrate his 30th from none other than Prince Harry!

Kensington Palace’s official Twitter account featured a little teaser post before Harry’s well wishes: “We were also watching the sprinting closely last week and have a special message for one of the competitors on his birthday…”

Then Harry took over the account for a bit of a cheeky post: “Congratulations @usainbolt – now you’re officially the greatest you might be ready for a re-run! Happy 30th –H.”

Looks like it’s a false start for Usain!

Usain can’t believe the Prince “beat him”!

The cute caption sat alongside a photo of Harry beating the sprinter in a race.

The pair met back in 2012 during Prince Harry’s royal tour of Jamaica.

Ever the good sport, Usain congratulates the royal on his massive win.

Usain was a very good sport, posing for a series of photographs before letting the 31-year-old royal beat him in a running race.

The crowd loved the stunt, laughing and cheering the Prince and the athlete on.

Fans of the pair loved Harry’s tweet and were quick to respond with rematch suggestions.

They are the greatest!

“Maybe London 2017? Opening event Usain v Harry!” one user enthusiastically posted.

The athlete has revealed his intentions to retire after the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

But we’d definitely like to see one final Harry/Usain race before he does!

The actor and his model girlfriend Nina Agdal had a lucky escape.

Leonardo DiCaprio and model Nina Agdal were involved in a car crash in the Hamptons over the weekend.

According to Page Six, one of the pair was driving when their car was rear ended.

An ambulance was reportedly called to the scene to tend to the stars and the drivers of the Mini Cooper also involved.

Witnesses say while it wasn’t a major accident, it was enough for the ambulance to be called as a precaution.

It’s not known whether Nina or Leo had been behind the wheel at the time of the crash.

Sources also recalled Leo to be a real gentlemen, making sure everyone else caught up in the drama was OK.

A close insider said the 41-year-old and his 24-year-old girlfriend “got rear-ended but everyone is doing fine”.

It’s not known which of the couple was behind the wheel at the time.

They train for years in a bid to call themselves an Olympian, but many of these sportspeople have a lot more than a gold medal riding on their success.

With million dollar endorsement deals, modelling contracts and advertising campaigns up for grabs, the pressure to not only be the best, but also a marketable and attractive role model is mounting.

And it’s easy to see this demand shining through in Rio 2016.

While training for the biggest event of their lives, athletes are striving for a different kind of perfection with spray tans, faces of makeup and pearly white teeth all part of the preparation process.

Perhaps its the pressure of lucrative deals on the line, the influence of social media or maybe it’s just a way to boost confidence before the big show – but these Games have certainly been the most glamorous.

“I do wear make-up on game days,” Aussie hurler Sydney McLaughlin told Elle magazine.

“Obviously what’s most important is your performance, but it’s psychological, too. If you feel good about yourself, you’ll be faster.”

Malcolm Turnbull defends giving $5 to a homeless man

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has called his decision to put $5 in the cup of a Melbourne beggar a “human reaction”, despite the city’s lord mayor previously advising people not to do so as it contributes to a cycle of homelessness.

On Wednesday Mr Turnbull was photographed giving a homeless man money while arriving to give his speech to the Committee for Economic Development of Australia.

This morning the PM was asked by 3AW radio host Neil Mitchell why he gave the man money when people are advised not to do so.

“I know people have got different views on that, but every time I see someone in that situation I always think, ‘There for the grace of God go I’,” Mr Turnbull said.

“It was a human reaction and I’m sorry if that has disappointed some people. Maybe they think you shouldn’t give money to people who are sitting on the street.

The PM added: “Neil, I felt sorry for the guy and I think that we should all remember, ‘There but for the grace of God goes me’.”

In 2014 Mr Turnbull, then the Communications Minister, joined about 100 of the ACT’s top business and community leaders spent a night sleeping out in the Canberra cold to raise money to help fight homelessness.

Mr Turnbull’s recent actions are at odds with Melbourne Lord Mayor Robert Doyle who has continually asked people not to give money to the city’s beggars – suggesting they give their money to Melbourne’s buskers instead.

Just this year in an opinion piece written by Mr Doyle the mayor said, “Melburnians are a generous lot, but please don’t give money to beggars – give it to the service providers like The Salvation Army and Melbourne City Mission.”

He added: “If you give money, food, clothing, blankets and other goods to the homeless, you are entrenching homelessness and making it easier for them to stay on the street.”

According to Homelessness Australia, there are currently 105,237 people in Australia who are homeless. The rate of homelessness (which takes into account population density) is 49 out of every 10,000 people (0.5 per cent of the population).

Punters online have both praised and condemned the PM’s actions – a few have noted that while he generously gave $5 he appeared to have a wad of larger notes in his other hand.

In the mainstream media, it’s a fair assertion to say females in sport play second fiddle to males. All we hear about is NRL players this and AFL player that. And while there’s nothing wrong with supporting their achievements, women are definitely not on an even playing field in terms of sports coverage.

Which is why the Olympics somehow feel refreshingly more equal. There are some outstanding athletes across the board and stand-out heroines for young women to look up to too.

His coach who helped him achieve this incredible feat? His 74-year-old great-grandmother and legend on the South African sporting scene, Anna Sofia Botha.

While competing in the 5,000-metre race, New Zealand’s Nikki Hamblin and America’s Abbey D’Agostino took a tumble. D’Agostino was injured and Hamblin stopped to check on her rival before helping her cross the finish line.

For most people, air travel is a bit of a nightmare. Put aside the crying babies and lack of legroom, there’s the problem of never waking up feeling well-rested. Well, if you’re travelling in economy class anyway…

A new invention is set to change all that though. The NodPod is marketed as a ‘hammock for your head’.

It mimics the way you sleep in bed with your head tiled to the side. The best bit? You can easily fasten it to the back of your chair and it’s designed to not obstruct the TV screen of whoever is sitting behind you.

Creator Paula Blankenship said she took her invention to Kickstarter because she wanted to change the way the world travels.

“Through extensive travels over the years as a professional commercial interior designer, I was always searching for a better way to rest on a plane, car or any form of transportation. I found traveling to be a tiring task and never quite found the perfect solution for really being able to rest on a plane or in a car,” she said.

“The simple solution came to me while traveling on a plane to visit a friend. When I arrived back home, I sat out to create my simple and effective design and wallah… the NodPod was born!”

Leonardo DiCaprio has always been seen as an actor who likes to give back, but is his charity all a big scam?

According to reports in the US, The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation is under fire after allegedly being linked to a $3 billion scam involving a Malaysian sovereign wealth fund.

The link was supposedly uncovered during a US federal probe into money laundering according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The publication went to great lengths to document how lavish and excessive the 41-year-old’s star-studded fundraising events are, and called into question both the origins of the cash bankrolling the parties and how much of the funds raised were actually going to charity.

Experts have had their say on the controversy, saying that the way Leo’s foundation is structured has raised questions about its accountability and transparency.

“Everything might be perfectly fine, but we don’t know,” Aaron Dorfman from the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy revealed to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation raised more than $45 million at a celebrity–filled gala in St Tropez in July.

The US Justice Department allege that money embezzled from the 1Malaysia Development Berhad owned by the actor’s friend Jho Low somehow made its way into his foundation’s money pool, and funded a Las Vegas gambling trip in which Leonardo reportedly took part.

The Malaysian company are currently in the middle of a huge embezzlement court case.

Terry Tamminen, CEO of the foundation, released a statement that didn’t directly address the allegations, saying the company is “an incredibly efficient, highly effective philanthropic organization that, through its relationship with the California Community Foundation, is supporting credible organizations that are carrying out some of the most important work on the planet”.

There will reportedly be a formal enquiry into the foundations coffers, which will examine the price tag of the charity’s elaborate events, and uncover how much of that actually goes to charitable organisations.
