Just because alcohol is one of the biggest calorie culprits, it doesn’t mean that you have to forfeit your next Saturday night out!
You work so hard all week and you should be able to treat yourself without undoing all the good of taking the stairs instead of the lift.
Check out our top 5 favourite cocktails below 200 calories to order on your next guilt-free night out!
1. Old Fashioned
One of the earliest recorded cocktails, this classic is beloved by basically anyone who watches Mad Men.
Served in a short glass, your new favourite drink is made by muddling sugar with bitters, a splash of rye or bourbon and topped with a citrus twist.
At just 154 calories, this vintage classic is a great way to start any sophisticated evening.
2. Cosmopolitan
Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha were totally onto something with this one!
You’ll feel classy with a hint of sassy drinking this vodka, triple sec, cranberry and lime concoction, and at just 150 calories, you won’t feel guilty ordering another round!
3. Mojito
Just to be clear, this doesn’t include those bucket freezer mixes you get on special at Dan Murphy’s…
A traditional Mojito is made with white rum, lime juice, soda water, mint and only a pinch of sugar.
And at just 160 a pop, it’s a fabulous and fresh choice for your next summer BBQ.
4. Gin and tonic
With just two ingredients and one very simple recipe, you can be sure that just about every bar will get it right.
Pro tip: Ask your bartender to serve up your 148 calorie drink in a short glass to avoid excess sugars from additional tonic.
5. Champagne
Congratulations, you don’t always need to be celebrating to pop the champagne!
The beverage’s 90 calorie per flute make-up is reason enough to toast the week away.
As thrilling as it often is, sometimes creating a fab interior can be a little hard to get your head around, but when you break it down, it’s as easy as 1,2,3!
It’s great fun creating a new look, refreshing a colour palette and rearranging a room. But there are times when all of us – even the professionals – get stuck. You could be right at the beginning of designing a scheme or near the end and something feels not quite right, when decorator’s block strikes.
This is the time to go back to basics. Ask yourself, what is the hero piece of the room? Is there symmetry and balance? Have you achieved the right mix of items to showcase your style?
Whatever the problem, you’ll be able to style, design and arrange your way through it as here, stylist Emily Ward explains the 1, 2, 3 of decorating.
1. HERO PIECE
One strong element can both anchor and lift a room, like a dramatic wallpaper transforming an austere dining area.
In this case, it’s the Fornasetti II “Chiavi Segrete” wallpaper from Cole & Son. Streamlined pieces complement rather than compete with the wallpaper.
The blue Thonet chairs and Jardan “Seb” chair add depth to the colour of the wallpaper, while highlight pieces such as the Tom Dixon bowl and HK Living carafe unlock the hidden metallic key motif in the print.
The American oak of the Tolix table and Victorian ash of the Coco pendant ground the look with natural textures for day-to-day use.
2. SYMMETRY
Symmetry can look formal and staid, but by employing a single colour scheme the look instantly becomes modern.
When working with one colour, select pieces with different textures and finishes to keep your scheme fresh.
Try balancing heavy winter fabrics with lighter materials such as linen.
Here, the distressed finish of the cabinet against the faceted modern pendant lights offers a play on patina.
In addition, smooth milky finishes such as ceramic look striking against woven and handfinished textiles. The final play comes from the fusion of contemporary and handmade.
Slick modern design like the faceted pendant lights and Ligne Roset dining chairs mingle well with handfinished items that conjure the natural world.
PERFECT MIX
Creating a harmonious ‘eclectic mix’ of objects isn’t a matter of combining objects ad hoc. Start with a plan that includes a common thread. In this room the linking theme is colour.
With a base hue such as blue, as seen in the wall paint, bedframe and bedlinen, introduce a primary highlight colour – here it’s neon orange in the Tom Dixon stool.
Next, layer with more tones that tie in with the initial base and highlight colours. The HK Living pendant light and Prudence Caroline artwork both feature variations of blue and orange, while adding pink and yellow. They bring a playful, but still grown-up, element to the bedroom. Plus, the artwork helps to anchor the room.
A subtle repeat pattern, like the geometric designs in the Swiden Design “Tivolivat” decoration, light shades and diamond cushion, will pull other disparate elements of a room together.

It’s been a terribly tough year for Iman and her daughter Lexi, following the death of music legend David Bowie in January.
But on Monday, the family took a moment to share a happy milestone as Lexi rung in her 16th birthday.
Taking to Instagram Iman, 61, posted a stunning black and white snap of her daughter and penned a loving tribute.
“Happy sweet 16th birthday to my baby girl Lexi! Stay sweet “Classy with a hint of sassy” #selfportrait #LexiLove,” the catwalk queen mused.
In the snap, Lexi looks to be her mother’s carbon copy with striking eyes and a captivating pout.
While the resemblance between the mother and daughter is easy to spot, many fans also pointed out her likeness to her late father.
“She’s beautiful, I see a lot of David Bowie,” one user commented.
Since welcoming Lexi in 2000, David and Iman lived a quiet life in their luxurious apartment in New York, keeping their daughter out of the spotlight.
“I am not married to David Bowie – I am married to David Jones [his real name]. They are two totally different people. We never have photographs taken in our apartment, we never do fashion shoots together,” Iman once mused of their approach to separating show business and family.

Friends close to the late singer say the birth of Lexi changed wild child David for the better.
“He missed out on much of Zowie’s [Duncan] young life, and wanted to spend as much time as possible with Lexi,” David’s biographer David Buckley once explained.
Lexi is Iman and David’s only child together and the half-sibling to David’s son Duncan, 44, from his first marriage to Mary Angela Barnett.
Baddie Winkle is one grandma who cares little about convention.
Well into her 80s, she is groovier than ever, and still rocking leotards, crocheted bralettes and rainbow heels better than most a quarter her age.
Recently she celebrated her 88th birthday and did not spare any expense on going all out. The party was filled with a princess hat, multi-tiered cake and pompom earrings. No rocking chairs or knitting needles in sight.
The great grandmother of three and grandmother to eight children ranging in ages from 17-48 is a social media star. And it’s easy to see why with a bio that reads: “stealing your man since 1928.”
Her Instagram account is followed by over 2.1million people. You can jump on board here.

Every man and his dog knows how tricky false eyelashes can be. One minute you’re trying to apply a falsie to your lash line and the next you’ve glued your left hand together.
Yet, despite the level of difficulty, we all find ourselves getting back on the false eyelash bandwagon in a bid to make our eyes look bigger.
But now, one genius Reddit user by the name of eraser_dust has come up with a genius false eyelash hack for small eyes.
Firstly, the beauty guru trims the lashes about two thirds of the way along. “A lot of false lashes aren’t designed for my smaller and differently-shaped Asian eyes, so this is how I modify them to fit my eyes better,” she said.
“For Asian eyes, I find that letting the lashes cover your entire lash line often ends up looking odd (think lashes pointing in weird directions thanks to how your lids bend them), and it’s sometimes even uncomfortable.”
Once you’ve trimmed your lashes and applied them, you’re left with a sizeable chunk of lashes. “What I normally do is attach it with a lash glue to the outer edge of my lashes, so that it’s thicker in the outer corners.”
Rather than letting it go to waste, eraser_dust then applies the leftover third over the lashes in the corner. GENIUS!
Now, someone bring us a mirror stat so we can test this hack out.
Why carpet? One of the obvious benefits is that it adds warmth to a room as well as providing a seemingly joint-free flooring finish that’s visually pleasing as well as being practical to maintain.
It’s also easy and quick to lay so it’s an effective flooring option if you’re short on time or want to save on labour costs. Best of all, it can work with any interior scheme to add colour and texture to a room.
When it comes to choosing carpet, some of the most important things to consider include whether it’s easy to maintain, as well as its practicality and functionality, and whether it’s cost effective in terms of your budget.
It all comes down to the material. Various materials offer different levels of softness and wearability, and each is priced to suit various budgets.
Here are the main materials used in carpets and what application and budget each is most suited for.
MATERIAL CHOICES
Polyester
The least expensive option, polyester is a synthetic fibre that can have a slightly plastic feel that is also harder underfoot. However, it is hard-wearing, making it popular for rented properties.
Nylon
Another synthetic product, nylon tends to be far softer and more durable than polyester. It is mid-range in terms of price, retains its colour well and is quite stain-resistant.
New ranges can be blended with corn syrup, making them as soft as wool. Solution-dyed nylon, one of my favourites, is super stain-resistant and is a practical, well-priced, all-purpose carpet.
Wool
A popular choice that wears well and is soft underfoot, wool is more susceptible to staining and requires more care and maintenance than synthetic materials.
One issue you’ll need to consider is the fibre continuing to lift once it’s laid for between six to 12 months. You may be vacuuming them up for some time.
FINISH IT OFF
Carpets come in a variety of finishes suitable for different traffic levels and offer completely different looks.
Plush pile
Popular as it’s soft underfoot, however it can flatten and show marks from foot traffic and vacuuming, which can be distracting in open-plan rooms.
Twist pile
Similar to plush in that it’s easy to lay and feels soft but it’s harder to flatten, and marks are less likely to show as the pile is twisted to sit upwards.
Loop pile
Because the pile sits upwards like an upside-down U, it’s less likely to flatten and provides a more uniform look. A popular loop-pile carpet is sisal, with its uniform lines of looped fibres.
Cut and loop
A blend of two styles forming various patterns and designs. Choose a nondirectional cut-and-loop carpet to a narrow room feel more square.
RUG UP
If you’re renting and can’t change up your floors, one of the most effective ways to transform a space, and address insulation issues, is with a floor rug.
They’re soft underfoot, add texture to your interiors and have acoustic properties that can make rooms quieter, more inviting and cosy.
Here are some tips when going shopping for a new rug…
The size should relate directly to the room. A rug will ideally be under your feet when you’re sitting on the sofa, or when you get out of bed in the bedroom.
If you are renting, sometimes overlapped smaller rugs can work well in a larger room. The benefit is that they can easily be repositioned if you move to suit a different size space.
In terms of style, look to the colour of your artwork, cushions or your accessories when deciding which rug design and colour will work best in your space.

Over the weekend, the famous family banded together to celebrate Luke Hemsworth’s wife Samantha’s birthday with a wild soiree in LA.
Guests included Liam Hemsworth and girlfriend Miley Cyrus, while Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky were unable to make it as they were in Australia.
The girl of the moment Samantha gave major Studio 54 flashbacks in a ’70s-inspired gold jumpsuit.
Meanwhile, Miley donned an Olympics-inspired outfit, complete with a gold medal and metallic gold vest, while Liam tapped into his Aussie heritage in classic chestie complete with a bucket hat.
But it was 35-year-old Luke who took the cake, rocking a sparkling cowboy ensemble.
Also joining in on the fun was pro-surfer Kelly Slater and Miley’s tour partner, Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips.
All attendees stuck to the strict gold theme, donning the glittery colour in some form.
“Samantha’s birthday I think the theme was “Gold”? I even had gold mankini on underneath,” Luke mused on Instagram.
Another highlight from the bash Miley, 23, telling her friend Katy Weaver to “just visit Down Under.”

Judging by the slew of snaps from the soiree, it appears the party was held at Miley’s LA abode.
Since rekindling their romance at the start of the year, Miley and Liam seem more comfortable than ever!
In fact, thanks to one party-goer’s photo, the pair have even dubbed themselves as “Liley.”
The only thing sweeter than Miley and Liam slaying their party game was a four-legged stud.
That’s right, a life-size gold horse statue featured heavily thoughout the wild bash.
Luke aptly dubbed it as “Horsepower.”
Luke and his wife-of-nearly-a-decade may have called it a night, but Miley, Liam and Wayne continued the parting well into the morning.
The Flaming Lips legend documented their artistic views on afterparties.

An emotional moment on last night’s episode of The Project had the nation cheering for host Carrie Bickmore and her incredible success.
The mother-of-two broke down in tears when she announced that her charity, Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer, had raised more than $1 million.
The incredible milestone was reached in less than a year after the host announced the foundation.
“Last year I launched Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer with the goal to try and raise $1 million for brain cancer research,” she began.
“And because of your generosity, we have already reached our million dollars — $1.1 million. So, thank you, thank you, thank you. I am just so blown away about that.”

The 35-year-old went on to thank each person who contributed to the incredible cause as images flashed across the screen, which fell into place making up a collage of her late husband Greg Lange.
“To each and every one of you who have bought a beanie, seeing all the pics coming up on social media, families and babies and kids and, you know, I don’t know any of you, but I feel like I know you all,” she said through tears.
“The image we’re about to see now, that is of my late husband, Greg, and he is the reason that I did this.”
“I want to say to anybody who is suffering from brain cancer right now, we will use this money, and I will use it to try and make your future brighter, so that is what I promise you we’ll do.”
The TV personality’s charity, Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer, was founded in November, just a few months after she used her Gold Logie acceptance speech to raise awareness for the illness, and call upon fellow famous faces to proudly don a beanie on air.
“I’m going to use the two minutes that I have up here to talk about something incredibly close to my heart. I want to talk to you about brain cancer,” the award winner said in her memorable speech, her voice shaking.

The Project host shared this sobering fact, “Every five hours someone is diagnosed with brain cancer and 8 out of 10 people diagnosed will die.”
“In 2010 my husband Greg was one of the unlucky ones and after a long, long, long battle he died from brain cancer,” she said.
“Over ten years I watched him suffer multiple seizures a day, lose feeling down one side of his body, saw his three-year-old push him in his wheelchair because he couldn’t walk anymore,” she told the famous faces in the audience.
The journalist was barely able to hold back tears when she spoke about her son Oliver’s father.
“He was an incredibly brave man, he was a great dad, he was a great husband, he was a great brother and he was a great friend but he shouldn’t have had to go through that.”
“Throughout his cancer journey he used to wear a lot of beanies, and that was because he was embarrassed about his scars, but beanies are cool,” the talented star quipped, placing a bright blue beanie on her head.
The three-time Logie winner finished her speech with a moving dedication: “I want to dedicate this award to anyone who is going through a really s–t time right now, anyone who is supporting someone through a really tough time right now, please believe that there will be a brighter day for you.”
The creator of a brand of childlife sex dolls for pedophiles has maintained he is an “artist,” despite backlash from the Australian community.
Over the past few years Australian Border Security has seized 18 consignments of childlike sex dolls, Fairfax Media reports.
Japanese company Trottla is behind the dolls who are lifesize and sold wearing different types of lingerie.
The company’s founder, Mr Shin Takagi, is a self-confessed pedophile. He says he has never acted on his urges and believes the dolls will stop offenders from preying on real children and act as a “substitute” for a human girl.
In an interview with The Atlantic, Mr Takagi said he was “helping people express their desires, legally and ethically”.
“We should accept that there is no way to change someone’s fetishes,” he said. “It’s not worth living if you have to live with repressed desire.”
A Department of Immigration and Border Protection spokeswoman told Fairfax the possession of “anatomically correct child dolls” was considered child exploitation material.
Penalties for importing the dolls carry fines of up to $450,000 and 10 years imprisonment.
Earlier this year a Change.org petition called for the government to ban the sale and import of the child sex dolls in Australia. More than 60,000 agreed the “sickening aid for pedophiles” should not be allowed into the country.
“The dolls are made to be lifelike therefore the idea normalises pedophile behaviour,” the petition started by Fighters Against Child Abuse Australia said.
“They are physically and anatomically correct. This raises serious concerns. I do not believe in any way that this is an appropriate deterrent against children being sexually abused.”
The former Spice Girl, mother-of-four and fashion designer is proving once again that she is more than capable of donning many hats (both figuratively and literally).
The multi-talented beauty revealed her highly-anticipated capsule makeup collection in the only way she knows how – with a very posh promotional video.
The clip created by Vogue, shows the 42-year-old getting ready in her bathroom after a morning shower, which she apparently wears sunglasses for.

Using her stunning fourteen-piece collection, David Beckham’s wife applies her signature smoky eye, a neutral lip and some highlighter along her cupid’s bow, cheekbones and nose for a “healthy glow” to pull the look together.
Speaking to Vogue, Victoria expressed the importance of making her everyday look “really, really easy” to recreate.
“If I can do it as a busy working mum with four children, anybody can. You don’t have to be a professional makeup artist. This doesn’t have to take up huge amounts of time.”
Explaining how her perfectionist nature translated to the immaculate quality of her products, she said, “It was really about not compromising and creating pieces that I wanted to wear myself.”
The capsule collection is divided into four different grouping, each of which represents a city that highly resonates with the fashion entrepreneur.
“When I was in L.A., I did wear less makeup,” she recites of the place she considers her “second home.” To reflect this, her range offers a “strong, youthful, and fresh” energy.
She describes London however, as “a bit edgy, a little bit rock-’n’-roll, a little sweaty.”
Her next city, New York, screams for a pop of colour: “Let’s not be too polite about it!” she says.
And lastly, Paris, is she city that she feels embodies “fashion”.
Victoria Beckham’s beauty collaboration with Estee Lauder is set to hit stores in September.
