Everyone assumes MasterChef Australia alum Adam Liaw and Poh Ling Yeow are good mates because they have previously filmed Adam & Poh’s Malaysia in Australia together.

But they actually didn’t really get to know each other until road-tripping through their latest series, Adam & Poh’s Great Australian Bites.

“Due to COVID I could only go to certain borders and vice versa so we had to split up the filming of Malaysia in Australia,” Poh, 49, tells TV WEEK. “I didn’t actually get to spend much time with Adam until now.”

“We were in the car together sometimes for five, six hours a day and we talked the whole time. I learnt Adam is very together, but he also has a really chaotic side I was shocked to discover.”

In the new series, the dynamic duo searches Australia for diverse ingredients and tasty treats that make up our history and culture.

Starting at the top of the country in Alice Springs, the pair travel from the cultural centre of Australia, in Kakadu, and end in the political centre, Canberra, meeting some special guests along the way.

“We spend a lot of time in this series talking to people like Elizabeth Chong, Maggie Beer, Ken Done and Pamela Clark,” Adam, 44, says.

“I feel like I’ve now got a much better understanding of what Australian food is and what makes Australian food great.”

“We discuss the impacts they’ve had on Australian food and it’s nice that Poh and I get to be a part of that conversation.”
