When it comes to naming a baby, there is much to consider. Will this name go out of fashion? Does my friend own a pet with this name? Will this name age well with my child? Will my child be one of 20 Ella’s in her year at school? Will they have to resort to calling her “Ella M”? The deliberation is massive, and with so many names to choose from, where do you even start?
Well, if you want to give your child a truly unique name, and don’t want to name him or her after a fruit (yes, Apple is still weird), you’ve come to the right place. Parenting site BabyCentre have published their “Endangered Baby Names” list for 2017, featuring the most under registered names of the year.
BabyCentre have identified 24 names, 14 girls names and 10 boys names, that have been cast aside for more favoured names like 2017’s most popular baby names: Emma and Liam.
It seems names once popular in the 80s, Karen, Janice and Donna, have fallen out of favour in 2017, topping the most-endangered of all the girls names. While for the boys, Clive and Gus were the most uncool.
Instead of these 80s faves, parents are opting for baby names that are short and sweet like Ava, Mia, Lily, Ivy, Alfie, Theo and Archie all of which fell in this year’s top 20 most trendy names.
So for your baby name inspiration (or maybe not) here are the most unpopular baby names of 2017.
