The designers of the Colombian women’s cycling uniform may have created possibly (certainly?) the worst athletics attire of all time.
Right now people have plenty to say about the Colombian women’s cycling team but it’s not about their sporting prowess but rather the kit they wore to compete in the Tour of Tuscany in Italy at the weekend.
Granted skin tight Lycra isn’t the most flattering of materials but the creators of the ghastly sports get-up are guilty of so many fashion faux pas it’s hard to know where to start.
The pronounced red and yellow feature colours on the speed suits not only break some of the biggest rules of colour clashing but they also, rather loudly, deceive spectators into thinking the team’s major sponsor is McDonalds.
However it’s the areas where there is no colour at all that has sparked the most outrage.
From the mid-section to the lower torso the suits have a cut-away area, where the designers have chosen to go with a flesh-toned fabric. It has caused some to amusingly label the outfits “vagina suits” while others have referred to the “camel-toe” effect.
While sporting attire should feel like a second skin, they’re certainly not supposed to look like it and the backlash about the uniforms has left the ladies donning them totally exposed to criticism.
The online feedback has been so strong that the President of the Union Cycliste Internationale Brian Cookson reacted to the controversy on Twitter.
Suddenly Australia’s 2014 Commonwealth Games uniforms aren’t looking so bad.
