Michelle Bridges reveals post-birth hospital dash

She had a dream pregnancy and smooth birth – but just days after returning home from hospital with her newborn son, Michelle Bridges faced a health emergency.

The 45-year-old fitness queen says she woke up on Boxing Day feeling very unwell and was rushed back to Sydney’s Prince of Wales hospital.

“I was going hot and cold,” she tells the February issue of The Australian Women’s Weekly. “I ended up on the same ward with the same nurses. “When we got there, they took my temperature and it was 39.6 – I was so delirious that I said ‘That’s normal, isn’t it?’

“They thought it was mastitis at first, but it ended up being a urinary tract infection. I was on an IV drip and antibiotics and they kept me in for four days.”

The infection led to Michelle’s milk supply dropping, leaving hospital staff worried little Axel would not gain enough weight. Fortunately, Michelle was able to build her supply up again and Axel was soon fighting fit.
